Our friends at HalfLife-2.nl, has reported that Belgian/Dutch PC Gameplay Magazine will, in their issue out on October 5th, be reviewing Half-Life 2.[br]
[br]
According to the news post at HalfLife-2.nl, the magazine says they have played through the full game and will be releasing a full review with 50 brand new screenshots.[br]
[br]
Once again, this shows that the game is getting ever closer, and soon we'll be able to find out if the long wait has been worth it.[br]We'll keep you posted on any further developments.[br]
[br]
Thanks to our forum member Xrenity for posting the information in this forum thread.[br]UPDATE: The website for PC Gameplay Magazine has been updated with a message stating that the 50 new screenshots they were going to release have been stopped by Valve. Valve didn't want the screenshots to be released to avoid spoiling the game for everyone. There will, however, be 40 or so screenshots included with the review itself.

Sorry if any comments were lost. I cocked up the news posting in the last one and it had to be deleted :p

I fixed it five minutes ago! :p

lucky bastards :( .. ah well, atleast we still have something to look forward to..

know if they will be mentioning anything about multiplayer btw ?

We obviously don't know yet :)

this is cool, hopefully we have a subscriber to the magazine in these forums and a translator somewhere. it better receive a 11/10. lol

im dutch, and i will get it on otc 5th , i will post some. but my guess is that the game is going gold next week so people will be playing the game a few days after the mag gets out

I'll buy it and if I'm fast enough I'll translate it for you. That is, if someone else doesn't beat me to it.. Xrenity? Gorg0n?

btw they also say the DVD that comes with the DVD edition of the mag will have 50 screenshots of half life 2 and a trailer.. maybe new stuff i dont know.

Well, I don't think I'll translate whole review :p

OK, K so the RC has been sent off

Doug says that they will have a definite release date soon

And now a Mag is ment to be reveiwing it

They must be pretty confident in the RC passing I reckon :D

I dont know how far ill read into review or how many screenshots i want to see even though it all great, i just wanna play it and be like wow. And after im done i read it.Unlike most games, i read revs first and then buy it.

Magazines nearly always get a pregold version of a game to play, as long as they're assured by publishers that it's mostly finished.

I'm not going to read the review or look at the screens, I want the entire game to be as fresh as can be on the big day.

Yeah but a lot of magazines take the line that they'll only review games that are gold status. I know PCG does that and PCZ say they do, but it's not always really true.

I'm a tad wary of this date because, say this games mag gets the RC to review now, they'll have 18 days to play through the entire game at least twice, including multi-player. If they're going to be thorough (for "thorough", read "credible") they ought to do it on more than 2/3 PCs - min, recommended and super, so they can review it in all its glory. Then they have to write it up, have the design and layout done, check with Vivendi that any bugs they spotted won't be in the gold version so that they don't review it unfairly, etc.

I'm not saying it's impossible, far from it. But it's a big job, and it'll be interesting to see how different the RC is to Gold (probably not much) so that they get their facts right in the review.
But like you say Feath, this probably won't be the world exclusive.

Belgian speaks Dutch, French and German. I know because I live in Belgium.

I have a abonnee on PC Gameplay so I'll translate the article and put some scans online. It comes out at 5 october (a bit earlier for the abonnees like me).

We're not allowed to link to scans, but I'll get Icarus to see if he can contact anyone at the magazine to see if we can get the story too or something.

The very minimum we'll hopefully get are the new screenshots in high quality, but you're allowed to translate the article and write it in your own words. That way we don't get PC Gameplay threatening legal action against us :p

I don't think I've ever seen PC Gamer mention gold but they always refer to "finished" games. It depends on what you mean by finished but they do definately review some pre-gold games. PC Gamer reviewed Hidden And Dangerous but neglected to mention the many bugs it had. Someone wrote off to them to complain and they replied that they were assured that these bugs will be fixed before released.

Aye, it's a big job to review games quickly, but something tells me that not just one journalists in a magazine will be playing Half-Life 2. I know that I'd be dying to play it whether I reviewed it or not. PC Gamer UK says they get together to decide scores as well (That's how they all decided that Half-Life deserved a 96%).

i live in holland , and its a breaktrough here on the forums..
but i doubt if we will see hl2 in october

Im not reading ANY reviews until i've played and completed the game myself. I dont trust them not to spoil things.

need someone to translate it?

Woah! The PCgameplay offices are in my town (Geel, Belgium). My buddy used to work there. Hmmm think i'm gonna stop by their offices today, it's only a 5 minute drive. Even if i don't get in, i might be able to sneak a hidden cam somewhere behind an office window mwuhaha :)

Lucky bastards!!!

Sure, please feel free to translate it.

I am, I am so hungry for HL2, I will devour the first thing of media coverage it gets, I don't care if it spoils the surprise ending or whatever.

I'm exceptionally hungry too, but I think I'm going to ease off on the screens which reveal too much from the final product. The next E3 2004 binks will be more than enough to satisfy me, assuming there's more to come from those.

Hopefully, reviews in 'respectable' publications will be kind enough not to spoil key parts of the game by being too explicit.

It'd be nice to see Edge mend the error of their ways with their previous nine out of ten for the original, by being completely amazed by the sequel and awarding a straight ten. ;)

Well thats good news for us fans :) Hopefully we might see a demo soon ? maybe an Uplink again ? that would be kick ass ;)

Chris_D you should really know how to quote someone :)

I have no problems with translating it. I have enough time after school so the day I get my copy I'll translate it.

Well as far as I can tell this is the first english site to have this excellent piece of news.

Everything is starting to look up now, unfortunately we have to go through some more stressful time as we wait to find out what the review will be like. :(
