most of his works are not finished and most of them are not correct and would not work in practiseCptStern said:didnt do anything special? he invented a whole whack of stuff years before they could even be built
when they coined the term "renaissance man" they were talking about Da vinci
iyfyoufhl said:most of his works are not finished and most of them are not correct and would not work in practise
he is not the first to be a renaissance man, nor he is the only one
that's not what i read in art history bookCptStern said:yes he is ...he is THE renaissance man ... he was so prolific that he never slept a full night of sleep for most of his adult life
i'm not saying that he wasn't i'm just saying that he is not THE RMCptStern said:well ..what can I say except that book is wrong
See, see! Two male "parents" - it DOES work!Razor said:Leonardo Da Vinci and Sir Isaac Newton, for being the father of modern science.

define that word for me anyways, and don't give me a link, tell me in yourown words
Another name for Renaissance man is Universal man, and this is the one of the main consepts of Renaissance period, meaning that a man should be perfect in everything: arts, science, poetry ect. I think this consept is wrong and outdated. as i said, Leonardo, wasn't famous untill not too long ago (reletivly) and the only reason why we know him is because of Mona Lisa (nothing special besides the whole controversy behind her smile and gender issue)CptStern said:sorry all I have time for is a link:
Renaissance man:
A man who has broad intellectual interests and is accomplished in areas of both the arts and the sciences
here's why

i just did, the whole renaissance man thing is very stupid and would never work in todays world, being a renaissance man means nothing escapt as a historical descriptionGrey Fox said:Well then tell us who is the renaissance man, and why that person is better for the title then Da Vinci.
for this time, but he was forgotten, he only worked for one man is whole lifeCptStern said:no, leonardo was very well known in his time ...he received commissions from the wealthy elite

They are most important because if they had somehow died before inventing the plane, we would all have zeppelins now.
Stupid Wright brothers.
There were other people working on similar designs at the time. If they hadnt done it somebody else would have soon after. They are most important because if they had somehow died before inventing the plane, we would all have zeppelins now.
Cuddlez.ini said:I would have to say that Sir Isaac Newton is the greatest person to live in the last 1000 years. He basically invented Calculus and using that figured out the foundation of the universe and formed the structure for modern physics. Without his contributions just about every "modern" thing would not exist.
that only makes him the worst man in historyMith' said:Ghengis Kahn/Kubilai/Mongols

No, the mongols praised culture, religion and trade... They also helped spreading the arab language throughout Asia (making it easier for people to understand eachother)... And have you ever heard about a man called Marco Polo?iyfyoufhl said:that only makes him the worst man in history
