Platinum Games + Sega + Shinji Mikami + Logan + armored suits + giant robots = GET HYPE, GET HYPE RIGHT THE FUCK NOW

This is Platinum's fourth and last game with Sega under their old contract. It's being directed by SHINJI MIKAMI. Don't know who that is? Oh, he's just some dude who developed a little game called RESIDENT EVIL. He was only the director of GODHAND. This guy's helmed some of Capcom's big franchises as a director, producer, and storywriter. This is his debut game under the Platinum name.

The plot is someone (or something) attacks the US in the future, and we're not having any of that so we roll out the guys in shiny white robot suits to wreck their shit. But really it doesn't matter what the plot is because the dude who directed Resident Evil and Godhand is making a game where you shoot robots.

Here's the trailer, done by Logan, the guys who did the MGS4 intro.

I really like what Platinum's done so far (even if I didn't enjoy the games themselves), as well as their history as Clover, so I'll be keeping a close eye on this. The way they're working with influential directors from other studios is pretty awesome, too, and should account for some great games if they continue the trend.

Kind of hoping it isn't 'just' another FPS, but the way they're pimping the suit hints that it's capable of more than just walking around shooting brutes UHH I MEAN robots. ;)

holy shit! this game looks nice, an idea what genre it is??
like a hybrid of some sorts??

edit: watch it in HD for goosebumps!

it looked more like a mix of live action and CG to me, but still awesome in HD and full screen. turn it up real loud its awesome

Cool! I'm glad to see a new Halo game is being made, it's about damn time!

Shooting white robots in white armour in a grey environment?

It's Gears of War made by Apple.

Reminds me a bit of P.N. 03 for the Gamecube.

Yeah it reminded abit of district 9 and PN03

Looks good considering no gameplay was shown and we don't even know what genre it will be :)

Super dope CGI looks interesting.

But it's only fun to destroy robots if the explosions are good. Like 3D parts, spinning on multiple axes, flying out in random directions with HUGE concussion blast waves and room shaking explosions and shit.

And good weapon sounds.

hm.....

some dude get some futuristic bulky armor suit and pick ups a big gun and made a pose of carrying it calmy while looking at the distanceOMFG HOW IT WILL BE???????????????

my predictions besides tipical fps are

a lost planet like game whit big robots instead of insects

a gears of war clone whit big robots instead of overdetailed heavy metal monsters like some other japanese company did

Yeah it reminded abit of...PN03
Funny you guys should mention that, because Shinji Mikami was also director of PN 03.

Even if this game is an FPS, guys, it's going to be an FPS by Platinum. An FPS by Platinum headed up by the man who designed survival horror, then redesigned survival horror, then created the best fucking beat 'em up on the planet that no beat 'em up will surpass even in 100 years. Everything Platinum has done, as a studio, is the pinnacle of whatever genre the game is in. Shinji Mikami himself is a goddamn genius. He worked on ALADDIN. You remember Aladdin? Fuck yeah you do, that game was pimp.

This is Platinum doing what's possibly an FPS, or an over-the-shoulder 3rd person shooter, or some kinda thing in between, or who knows what the hell it's going to be. But it's going to be GREAT, because it's Platinum. And if it IS an FPS, then everyone else can just go home, and I mean EVERYONE else, including Valve, because it will be the best first person shooter ever and in 100 years no one will surpass it.

Because PLATINUM.

the man who designed survival horror? bull frickin' horseshit, game also looks stupid

the man who designed survival horror? bull frickin' horseshit
implying that "survival horror" wasn't a term coined by Resident Evil
implying that Resident Evil wasn't therefore the first survival horror game
implying that Shinji Mikami didn't come up with the idea for the game
implying the man didn't create an entire genre

SHINJI MIKAMI

I never know if he is or not. I still love the guy, though. But, there were horror games before RE...just not survival horror games. So I don't know if he was considering those or not.

Save your rage meter, man. Barnz is trollin'

No, I don't. There were survival horror games before Resident Evil. Clock Tower: The First Fear (on SNES) is a good example.

Well, there were horror games before RE. There were horror games back in '81. In fact, several things from RE were borrowed from Capcom's "Sweet Home," which came out in 1989. It was a very similar type of game, and Capcom wanted Mikami to recreate that. But no game before RE was ever called a survival horror game. ;) After RE though, that became the genre's official title, which is one of the reasons RE is such an important game. It defines a genre so much that it gave it its name.

Which is, of course, another reason to get hype: it further illustrates just how much the developers working at Platinum completely define whatever genre of game they make. Their games are definitive.

I see you're using Mobygames.

Actually I wasn't, I just know a lot about Capcom in general, and of course I know what Mikami's done because GOD HAND. After God Hand I had to know who was involved, and when I found out all the stuff the guy's directed and produced...

Actually uh...I'm kind of embarrassed but I didn't really know what Moby Games was until I googled it just now. I mean I'd heard the name before, but I didn't know what it was.

To be fair as much as I agree with darkside that resi pretty much made survival horror become a mainstream stay in gaming wasn't alone in the dark considered to be the first survival horror?

Ugh...more thinly-veiled pro-US propaganda (or at least that is what the trailer made it look like). No thanks.

Just because a piece of media glorifies something doesn't mean it necessarily has an agenda.
Yeah, but it also doesn't mean I have to take part. In the end I suppose it all hinges upon why it is being glorified in the first place. Of course, if it is the US military-industrial complex being vilified I wholly offer my support the game. I can't imagine Japanese devs would look at the US military in anything but an unfavorable light. I love what Kojima has done with it, for instance.

if showing a person of the goverment of the usa saying "we will save the world blabla" while everything is being destroyed them almost all games are glorifications of the usa

What? :|

I think you need to submit a resume to GT to make those popblock videos. That's some ****in' insight right there, man.

I've released a lot of titles before and I feel that, perhaps specifically with regard to God Hand, I was given too much freedom to make that game just as I liked. It didn't sell too well.

We're definitely going for something a little more mass market that will appeal to a wide audience. Certainly a bigger one than God Hand had. We knew that these were points we had to address from the very beginning, and Vanquish is a result of that.

The maker of the greatest beat 'em up in history has regrets.

He has regrets, so he wants to make it appeal to a wider audience.

Don't you understand, Ace? Games for the mass market...means CASUAL.
