Let me ask you this:
When you look up in real life, do you move your head backwards or forwards?
I only invert for flying games
You misunderstand.
FPS's are viewed as though you are looking through real eyes, right? the view on your screen is what you are looking at with your virtual 'head'.
In real life, to look up, you have to pivot your head back, unless you're that man-mantis freak up there. To look down, you have to pivot your head forward. Translating this movement from the mouse to the screen, moving your mouse forwards is equivalent to tilting your head forward and looking down. Common sense.
This is the reason vertical flight control surfaces are made the way they are, to mimick the movement of the pilot's head and vision.
What you're calling 'normal' is just a bad habit picked up from cursor control which only works great on a 2D plane.
Only in aircraft.

Normal for mouse, inverted the gamepads. Anyone trying to justify their preferences beyond "It's what feels right to me" is wasting their time, it depends on how you think, there's no right or wrong.
You misunderstand.

I always thought inverted controls were the dumbest thing ever, ever, ever. I don't care how old school it is, DUMB.
^Going to turn into Circumcised vs. Non-Circumcised debate ^
I like my penis cut up in a very bloody manor with some skin missing, btw.
I'd also rather my penis be circumcised.
You misunderstand.

Truth.WRONG, You're all WRONG.
What's all this bollox about 2D plain + 2D plain = down is down up is up?
WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.
Your monitor is 90 degrees to your mouse's plain of movement, therefore there is no relation between the mousemat and the top and bottom of your monitor, unless you THINK there is.

Yeah they didn't give you a choice. And then there was that bonus mission where it was basically a mini FPS.I remember using inverted in Dungeon Keeper.
I generally look with my eyes and if need be then my head follows. From that point of view "normal" mouse (mouse == eyes) makes just as much sense as Inverted (mouse == head). In real life, to look up, you have to pivot your head back, unless you're that man-mantis freak up there. To look down, you have to pivot your head forward.
I have a feeling that has more to do with a feeling of pushing the nose of the aircraft down. You forget that a Joystick/aircraft controls actually move in 3 dimensions, when moved all the way forward it leans downwards reinforcing the notion that you are pushing the nose of the aircraft down and thus making that convention more intuitive. This might also be why inverted is more common on analogue console controllers. This is the reason vertical flight control surfaces are made the way they are, to mimick the movement of the pilot's head and vision.

I'm interested to know if anyone, while learning FPSs started out with Inverted/Normal and made a switch because it didn't feel right.
You're agreeing to this logic by saying it's rotated 90 degrees. You're right, it's the same thing but rotated 90 degrees, still facing us. So why should it be inverted?
