Portal Video

Woah. This is the coolest thing the Source engine has done so far! Facial animations, refractions, ragdolls, HDR, and now portal technology. In my opinion, it looks more fun than Prey.

If Episode 2 is sold for $20, that will be the best $20 ever spent. (Ep 2, Portal, and TF2!!!)

Seriously dude, don't count on it. This package will probably be sold for the price of a normal game, around €50.

Looks awesome. It also looks like one of those frustrating games that will make your head explode.

edit: ugh I can't watch it from Gamespot. Does anyone have an alternate link?

If you are a member, and you can't see any image when streaming, download it. I have a similar problem. I must say, this game concept is absolutely brilliant. No problems with Jack Thompson

Doubt it.

It'll prob be $30 max

His Value was in Euros, not Dollars

Valve...You are awesome, no other developer is better than you. You create new games, ideas, and new experinces like no other. And the most important thing is that You care about your customers.

Good Job Valve

just a simple message to VALVe software

I'll be willing to shell out €50,- for just Portal with Hammer support ;)

Asking 50 bucks for EP2 + TF2 + Portal is fully justified imo, and wouldn't hold it against Valve.

This looks absolutely incredible. Wow, I just watched the video twice in a row...and man my mind is still boggled.

By the design, I would suggest this would follow some sort of Combine story line, due to the use of the white, minimalist nature of the gun and sentry.

I just got to wonder, when you're stuck in the infinite loop, can you see the back of your playermodel? This is just so wicked.

Yeah you can.

I love the theming in this, it's a really cool look imo - and the special FX are top notch! It's like Narbacular Drop, except with sentry guns, and waaaaaaaay way faster - that bit at the end was insane!

Yes, and $30 is around €24 ;)

But it's too soon to speculate on that. Remember that it's 3 games that you're paying for.

I thought you were just paying for Ep2, I believed that TF2 and Portals were free components. But then again it wouldn't bother me...

And yeah, currency exchange rates are not my strong-point :p but I guess the 50 euros could easily be justified. I personally wouldn't mind paying the RRP for a new game

The three games are bundled, it's one big love package.

And the euro is about 1,25 dollars. Conclusion? Europe rocks.

It seems as if a resistance member (for instance) is escaping a combine prison and has somehow got hold of a gun that looks like a smart car. I like.

I've heard this before, but do you know exactly where it was confirmed?
There's not a lot available to support the link IMO, though that was the word going round at the EA event. I personally wonder, if this is a Half-Life universe game, is Portal the speculated forth episode? Doubtful, but food for thought.

This is completely crazy. I knew this is gonna be awesome. I tried their previous project, Norbacular Drop (thanks to link posted in comments), it was really good proof-of-concept and now this... Yeah!

Hey, do you remember the latest Valve's statement? Enhanced Half-Life 2, EP1... Can you imagine HL2 with motion blur and dof? =D

What's more, this is probably one of the videos Valve promised for this week :D

I think 'set in the HL universe' won't go further than using models/textures/settings from it. I doubt you'll be able to get story elements from it. Just a thankful use of existing content.

And the Sterling is about 1.4 Euros. Conclusion? Europe Trembles with fear :x

What are you basing that on?

I believe Gamespot mentioned this in one of the articles, but I think they used the wrong description. I believe it is using HL2 assets to some extent only.

We have the Portal gun, which appears to be a heavily modified Gravity Gun (Face Lift and changing the Primary Fire) for example.

Definately not. In the press release, Valve clearly expressed that it is going to be bundled with Episode 2.

You're overprotecting your market! :p

Unless you play the Gman, in some sort of twisted Boot Camp ;)

The part out of the press release, if some people don't believe me:
Team Fortress 2 and Portal will be included with all retail and Steam versions of Episode Two for the PC. In addition, these products plus Half-Life 2 and Episode One will be available in one tremendous offering for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Are you kidding, Prey didn't use their portal technology for anything like this.
Portal is what Prey wants to be.

Hate to piss in your cheerios but Valve did say when they showed off their new video effects that some of them were very strenuous, and I believe they at least gave a strong impression that some of them were for after-effects when doing machinima and trailers only, and not for in-game.

Saying that, graphics hardware is faster these days. Additionally I might be wrong, my memory fails it sometimes.

That was really cool and it looks intense.

Oh and why wasn't the sentry gun in HL2 styled like the one in the video, I love that design!

Portal is set within this Half-life universe - this was confirmed by Doug Lombardi whom I emailed concerning the matter. So yes, it is.

The depth of field that you see is a after-effect

I wasn't excited about it when I first heard about it but I have to say the vid looks amazing. It looks like its a lot of fun but I dont think it will be easy. I also like the fact thats its part of the HL universe.

Its great we get this for free(+ TF2) with EP2.

I wonder what happend to the 'building' game they talked about some time ago, are they still working on it?

I have to say I dont like the fact that they are working on 5 things(maybe more) at the same time. Both CS:S and DOD:S still need some updates, they have to work on the episodes to finish the hl2 story, they are working on TF2 and now they are working on portals to.

OMFG! This game look sooooo ****ing cool I cant wait! This is gonna shit all over the piece of shit Prey (which is Doom 3/Quake 4 with portals)

JESUS ****ING JESUS!

I seriously yelled so hard over and over again after seeing that. I cant believe my eyes. This is truly amazing and it makes Prey look like crap.
