Does the game actually look like that, or is it a screenshot mode where it pumps up the effects and detail like the reflections, texture resolution and the soft shadows?

Well those are taken in photo mode, but the only difference between those shots and how it looks in-game is the amount of blur. Other than that everything looks damn good.

The only thing that is bugging me about Forza 3 is how long some of the races are. I'm in season 3 and most of the races are over 20 miles in length. I'm in the lead most of the time so it just gets boring racing for that long. I'm sure they will only get longer, like previous Forza games.

The photo mode does some anti-aliasing, it suffers from jaggies in game. I think I heard replaces the car models with higher detail versions that you only see in replay mode and in the menu. It looks good in game but nowhere near as good as it does in replays and the DoF and AA in photos make the screenshots look even better. Too bad they won't release this on pc or we could get most of these effects in real time.

Correct, same thing as Forza 2 and PGR3/4 did.

I still can't decide whether Forza 3, PGR4 or GT5P has the most detailed real-time car models.

Anyway, Forza 3's a damn good looking game, especially the vehicles, though IMO GT5P has it beat hands down when it comes to environmental details/graphics.
