Long story short, there's lots of behind-the-scenes stuff that's only implied in the actual games, but is describe in the novels.

The main reason Valve said there won't be a movie was because they hadn't found a script they liked. Don't remember where I saw it, but I'm quite sure. They did get several offers, though.

Now if Valve does find a script that they like, then who knows? But Gordon should just have a cameo at most.

Well guys if you preload it you wont have to wait for it to install once you get the box copy. You just have to put in your CD key and play right away.

So, I ask you, why not preload? You don't have to pre-order to pre-load.
