christ its just a preload, get over it :O

Valve should really get a secretary, you know, so she can teach them how to use an agenda.

Wow, I don't get mad at Valve for missing dates anymore, I just laugh. It seems that reality has pwned Valve once again.

wow Valve really have no credibility when it comes to any dates.. I wonder what they think of themselves :/ besides the pockets overflowing with cash.

meh, it may just be a preload.. but thats why its such a big deal, if they cant ****ing get their act together on something so miniscule and unimportant, how the **** are they going to... bah
I seriously doubt we will be seeing the game before september.. hell I doubt we will see the game before december at this point.

Valve is the laughing stock of the gaming community. This only makes it funnier.

Funny picture there Fusion!

it is bad that they cant make a date anymore, but its not like it matters. not like you can do anything with the preload....

You're probably more right than you know.....

Valve as a company is irresponsible. No other way to put it. It's preloading -- where's the difficulty in releasing it alongside the CS: Source beta? Where are the issues?

I don't see any.

C'mon guys, at least the delays are now measured in days instead of months! :D

I wouldn't say they're irresponsible. Overambitous when it comes to dates perhaps, but not irresponsible.

Wow, I would offer you some rope to console you but I don't have any to spare...

damn....i can't think of anything else to say. Just....damn.

actually no, you cant measure a delay anymore... its almost been a year, and who says its going to stop there?

its not irresponsibility, i think believe it or not.. it is simply lack of experience.

This is actually a very good point. At least Johnson wasn't like "Uhhh...sorry gotta delay the preload to December! kthnxbye."

That would have been bad.

How else can you explain their actions over the past few days?

1) Gabe says it preloads on 8/17
2) Gabe says no, we decided not to do it on 8/17, we'll do it 8/19
3) Now they said 8/23

If you told your teach in school you'd turn in an assignment on 8/17 but ended up not doing so until 8/23, or a boss at work with a project -- is that not irresponsible?

I wasn't doubting the competency of them as a company, I know they hope for release dates and work hard, I was just saying, it was an irresponsible decision they made and reflected that.

There's still plenty of time for it to go gold. If it wasn't gonna be released until december, they would have delayed the preload until like november.

Personally I am not upset the least.. its not as if it is being delayed because it isn't finished. I just find it funny they missed another date.

What? Instead of Thursday it's Monday. That's totally different than the "Holiday Season" versus "Summer".

How depressing. I mean, honestly, I am kind of let down.
So am i. And i thought i was numb to this thing now. This actually is a huge let down for some reason.

Exactly!

yes but it isnt Monday yet is it?.. on Monday it might be something like "lols lols, we meant Monday of March 2005" (just kidding)
delaying something more frequently in smaller increments is no more impressive to me.

why this is such a let-down is because it looks like Valve really dont have their shit together, and a summer release is pretty much out of the question.

Exactly. If you know you can't hold a date, then don't set a public date. This is why I'm not too concerned as to the lack of a real release date right now. But in the end, this is just hugely irresponsible on Valve's part. It's a letdown to the fans and is completely unprofessional, especially because it's for something fairly minor. I can forgive a couple of minor slip-ups, but this seems to be happening every time Valve says anything.

Way to go Valve, your credibility has dropped yet again. *claps*

Well boo hoo guys. Now you have to wait a whole 4 days! It's not the end of the world you know. Hl2 will come out SOMETIME so everyone should just shut the hell up.

Do you work at valve? No? Then you guys don't know what kind of shit they have to go through. Just let them do their jobs. Yes, they suck with dates, but get over it.

/end rant

Wow, you get the offer for Rope too...
I must really check my shed.

I almost made a reply similar to yours, but it was 2453 characters long. THen I remembered, OH SHIT, ITS ONLY A VIDEO GAME. So I deleted everything and started over. So yeah... it's only a video game, and its only til monday. Its not like youd be playing it anyways, its only a pre-load.

Yeah. How awesome would it have been if Valve hadn't given any kind of preload date and HL2 just showed up on Steam one day? They should have done that. A surprise like that would go a long way to silencing criticism of the company.

the thing about forums is, people express their opinions on a subject, sometimes they explain why they feel like they do.. after all it is a personal opinion.

people who offer opinions, on other people's opinions might as well post something like "lols lols post count +1"

there is no point, you feel how you feel and they feel how they feel... criticize the issue not the person.

I dont know where you came from but comments like that are both really offensive and unacceptable.
implying someone should commit suicide because they express their opinion is utterly juvenile.

Only thing I don't get is Gabes statement the other day of the pre-load being ready for release, but they decided to push out the VST first. What happened since then that caused a delay. I mean if it was ready it was ready. Dunno, weirdness.

Ok, I'll concede that they don't have their shit fully together, and you're right, it might not be a summer release... But, the point is that every indication is that it will be coming out in a couple of months, as opposed to next year.

It wasn't ready, it was all marketing strategies...

Sigh.. they can't even do a pre-pre-load on time. I wonder how VALVe's staff meetings go...
"There was a meeting at 10 yesterday! Where were you?"
-"Sorry, I got delayed..."
"That's okay, the meeting got delayed too!"

The only thing they won't delay is lunchtime :p
