Ok the situation according me is as follows.

No CS:S updates this week may confirm my theory....that HAlf-Life 2 is finished and ready to ship but there's no point in announcing it's gold until mid-October to reach the November release date so it keeps the ignoramus' happy. People like me who are a minority are pissed off but that's ok because i don't represent the majority of the market.

If the majority knew the game was gold this week but won't be released till November they would not be a happy bunch. "0mfg lI3K W7H3R 73h G@3m ?11111" Numbers speak louder than words.

Valve will remain very quiet this week.

I'm pretty sure the first RC will make it. The steam preloads really demonstrates how little control Vivendi have over content as Valve have already internally approved all the models, sounds, materials and released them.

I was reading a diary from a beta tester from the game Evil Genius that just went gold a week or two ago and they had all their own test of beta testers full time and they said vivendi always came back with a long list of bug reports after they thought they had everything they could think of. I think evil genius went through quite a few RCs before it finally went. Seems vivendi is a very large company

FYI if its any estimate on half-life 2, it took EG a month and a week (on the 28th) from gold to shelves

Shisen!! Perhaps the evil genius guys had a very small internal testing phase while we know Half-Life 2 has been tested for about 4 months now...internally.

Uuhhh The only ones they actually missed were Sept 30th. and the preload dates. CS:CZ was due to Vivendi. Holiday's, April release dates were Valve taking guesses. the SDK dates were also the same.

The september 30th delay was announced before the date, i can't remember if hl2.net also got it in a forum post as with the one dealing with the source code theft.

The holiday date was announced by vivendi, so was april, so was any other date. summer was refered to as "finished", and have already been heavily debated by valve.

Also summer is not done yet. One preload date was passed once without a word.

CS:CZ isn't really valve's game either, but Shacknews were given a lot of info regarding dates and delays.

As Lombardi already said, it's up to Vivendi to determine a ship date. And although it's unfortunate we waited months from gold->release, you will have to talk about Vivendi on that.

And for gods sake, about now you should all realise that they are NOT release dates. they are estimastes. If it was a release date, it would come from vivendi, and it would come in form of a press release.

CZ was never reviewed before it's release.

It was the testers that thought ritual were making crap, so they got Turtle Rock Entertaiment to work on it.

When it was done the game went gold, and mysteriously enough disappeared for quite a while before actually being released.

That's why i think VU will brand this gold in a couple of days. So if it get's delivered by 15th september, it could be going gold as early as friday.(again opinion, but based on facts, like Half-Life 1 road to gold)

Unfortunately he seems to have confused estimates with releasedates for a long time.

Exactly what I was thinking. Personally I don't believe in anything HL2-related I read on the internet. Valve and VU will either have to call me on my cell-phone and tell me it's in stores in X days, or I'll just sit here and wait until it's released (I haven't got a life anyway).
