I searched the forum and found only threads about the demo, so I figured I'd create one for the full retail game.

I ordered the game this Saturday and I'm expecting to get it either tomorrow or Thursday. I played the SP demo and had lots of fun with the destruction, and the game has been getting great reviews across the board from both users and reviewers. I'm really surprised to see that it hasn't garnered a lot of general attention, as it seems to be the sort of game that would have a big following.

I'll be looking to play multiplayer once I get the game. Is anyone else interested in playing together? What are your opinions of the game?

I will probably wait for this to become cheaper before thinking about buying it, but I enjoyed both RF games on the PS2 and it looks interesting. Definitely interested in hearing what other people think of it before I pick it up though.

Having played the 2nd game, this game is NOTHING like it. It's kind of like a mix of GTA and Prototype, if prototype had been about destroying buildings instead of people and things.

I'd recommend you try the demo on the 360. The game is open world, but the demo is a single mission so it kinda gives people the idea that the whole game will be just a collection of missions (thats what I thought until a friend who owns the game told me otherwise)

I'll definitely be getting this, though I was a little worried about the whole change to third person etc, as I loved the first two. After reading several reviews though, I'm sure I'll love it.

Not too sure whether to get it on PS3 or 360 now though.

KICKASS ****ING GAME although I dislike how collapsed buildings often disappear into nothingness and leave behind a few chunks while just sinking into the ground.

I had a blast (lolpun) with then end segment in the demo. Stuff blows up real good in that game. I'd like to get it once I have some money saved up.

You guys might want to keep an eye on Amazon and Newegg then. I got it this weekend for $39 with free shipping. I heard Amazon has been having similar sales recently. (Xbox360 version)

gotta say i'm really happy with RFG
the campaign is solid but multiplayer is where it's at - with different "backpacks" to choose from including the jetpack, stealth and rhino (let's you run through structures) and satisfying weaponry like the thermobaric rocket launcher capable of taking down massive buildings in 1 shot

the "geo mod 2.0" tech alone is enough to be impressed by though... i mean destroying stuff just never gets old!
DICE should take notes

I have no interest in games featuring primates.

What if they look like this?

This game started out spetacular, and I thought it was going to be one of my favorite games in a long time, but then I got tired of it, started to notice how the destruction isn't that great, and how the engine is a little broken. Then I realized how I hate sandbox games like this and how the only good mode in the multiplayer is anarchy (deathmatch). It ended up being pretty terrible to me. I just don't understand how a game can start out so fun and end up so bad.

I'll post a video of the crappy destruction later after I find it.

Edit: Here's the video:

i see that same tower destroyed with ease every time i play that map in multiplayer..... but so what? the engine isn't PERFECT

i agree that the campaign has its faults, specifically with the storyline, but it's still pretty enjoyable as a sandbox

also, not sure what you're smokin but CTF and damage control mp modes are awesome in the "large mixer"
haven't spent very much time with siege but it seems like it could be pretty fun too...

Hmm the graphics in that utoob vid look pretty nice. I thought that graphics were supposed to suk ass. Kinda want.

lol no, don't know where the hell you got that impression. The visuals are great.

Gonna wait for the PC version, hope it ends up being on Steam...

I thought the cut-scenes were pretty BA, even though there were only two or three. The story wasn't too bad, but again, I don't really like sand-box games.

It's on the coming soon tab of Steam store, but the release date for PC isn't until August 25th, which is a major bummer.

The 360 version of Mercenaries 2 does the same thing. (never played the PS2 or PC version)

How's the building destruction in RF:Guerrilla? Better? Worse?

I'm interested in what people think too though. I'm a fan of RF 1, but RF 2 sucked balls.
I don't mind the change to 3rd person either tbh. The action can be limiting in 1st person view.

It really isn't the same type of destruction though. Individual pieces break off according to damage and stuff, but sometimes when the building collapses it will often have parts disappear instead of chunking apart.

Sounds like maybe the destruction is a little more physics involved than Mercs 2 then and also what many fans of Mercs wanted out of Mercs 2's destruction.

The reason why some parts just seem to disappear was probably done on purpose to maintain a reasonable performance.
Physics are extremely intensive, even on high-end PCs.

Yeah. I remember interviews of Mercs 2 where the devs spoke more about having individual chunks and holes be taken out of buildings and even have the more physics based. Sad to see that didn't happen.

I remembered a few shacks and shanties here and there you could take out piece by piece via grenades or running them over with a tank, but the large skyscrapers and such probably proved too intensive for what hardware the devs had to work with at the time. The devs didn't lie, it's just not the larger buildings like most people probably expected.

Been having a ton of fun with the SP in this game, I'm gonna play the SP some more and then try the MP on for size soon.

If anyone wants to play with me, my gamertag is Rico21745

I am curious, how are the side missions? Are they interesting and varied like GTA or repetitive and boring like Far Cry 2?

The objectives themselves are often the same (blow up this building, save these hostages), but what happens is never repetitive or boring.

Hm, I suppose that is slightly unfortunate.

the campaign is entertaining enough but, IMO, the multiplayer is the most enjoyable part; i've been playing it steadily since release

does anyone know when the MP DLC is supposed to be released?

Are there ah, "pedestrians" in the game?

Yup. They take up arms and fight with you when you're in deep shit too if you have the morale in that sector high.

I just got the PC version and it seems to be quite fun. I think it's going to be played like GTA was, that is, I will complete 1 missions and then spend an hour and a half running around killing things...except now i can bring down buildings. Those explosives are addicting.
