Release Date

Ach well. That's not too long a wait at least. Still would have been nice this year though.

Its more good news than bad news! I'd rather something of great quality was released at a later date, than something shoddy rushed to the christmas market.

See? And you told me to stop complaining when I said June. Come Feb/March, they are sure to say "a few more weeks" straight until summer. I bet you.

Meh, it's bad news; good news would be the equivalent quality product released earlier.

Obviously I'd rather it done well, but if it was done well and released in November, then everything would be gravy.

I'm impressed they didn't bow to the christmas deadline, though.

Keep betting. Christ, why make such a big deal? In the end we get a better game. Does. That. Compute?

I did actually expect a November release, but I'm not sulky one bit. I'm actually glad because it means that Valve can work more on it and not rush it for an early release.

Delayed game > Early game imo.

If we're lucky, we'll see it in next summer.

P.S. And to think in previous polls the vote that Aftermath will be released in November dominated. Ha!

Well, if it is released next summer, I hope it has more gameplay than 6 hours. Somehow I don't think Valve are going to make their goal of an expansion every six months. That's fine by me, though.

I'm a bit worried about the graphics it will be putting out by then... HDR closes the gap a little, but without newer shadowing tech. or new displacement shaders Source might look a little outdated by 2006.

I don't care when its released, as long as the quality is superb.
The quality of AM won't be superb if it's released in 2006, because by then you'll have played Serious Sam II, F.E.A.R., Call Of Duty 2 and maybe even Unreal 3, and Aftermath won't look all that impressive, and will be playable only by true fans. Us.

I'm really not making a big deal... lol.. Just making a point. Everyone forget's that at first they were saying "by the end of summer" about AM. I just think Gabe needs to make everyone work harder and have some accountability. Implement some sigma six. Stop spending the millions for a week and living the luxury life, and do what got you to the top in the first place: Working hard, sleeping under your desk, and live off Chinese and pizza. Final step: Get a single game out on time.

The funny part is that in the latest interview, Gabe admits to completing AM in 8 hours "the last time" he played. Which obviously means it must be playable. I just don't understand what all the delays are about.. think about it.. what was the delay on LC about? It was a 15 minute tech demo that was released 9 months after they first announced it would be out in "a few weeks".

I clearly remember back in January when they said "We have a treat for the community.. LC in a few weeks".

People have the right to be annoyed.. Don't get annoyed at people who are annoyed. LOL. No but seriously, imagine if it was a month before "Revenge of the Sith" came out and George Lucas suddenly annouced it would be delayed until winter. Star Wars fans would be up in arms. You really can't blame people for getting irritated by Valve.

I see absolutely no point in this statement. At all. Who are you to know what goes on at Valve? How do you know exactly what Gabe is doing? :|

Umm, yeah, obviously its playable. Just because its playable does not mean:

Its polished
Its finished
Voices are recorded
scripts 100% finished
models are working perfectly
animations are fine
everything was in there.

Yes, the funny part.

Sho? Its free, it does not matter.

Serious Sam 2 is pretty meh.
F.E.A.R is great, not special
Call of duty 2 does not interest me

Are we talking graphics here? Because they really aren't what make games shine (unless your a graphics whore). And really, who are we to know what the quality of Aftermath will be...or whether it is any better than those at all.

Very well said. They can take as long as they like to make all the changes for the better.

Just made some calculations:

Hl2 announced for 30 september released the 16 november, so now that aftermath is announced for early march, so we can expect it the 15 may!!

Oh!! Sh..it, just forgot that it was one year later !! god dammm

No, we're talking about everything, not only graphics. Mostly gameplay.

Seems that is your only argument, because that's all what I'm hearing from ya. You were saying the same thing about Lost Coast, and what did we get? A short 15-20 minute map with lousy commentary. It was good, but not superb.

Not that I'm complaining; on the contrary - I've enjoyed Lost Coast, and I did buy a card, to buy Aftermath over Steam. So it got delayed. Big deal. I'd love Half-Life 2 after 7 years. Why? Because I still love Half-Life 1.

Besides, I don't like my games in Autumn or Spring... In summer I'll have all the time in the world to play it.

But who are you to judge, since you've no idea what Aftermath contains?

But it was free. I didn't think Lost coast was superb, I just thought it was 20 minutes of fun - and it was free, I didn't pay anything, so I enjoyed it all the more.

ah crap postponed again :x
but if the end product will be good they are forgiven (who am I kiddin? its valve it wont just be good it will rock!!!!!!!)

Source engine has its limits. And apart from a few minor tweaks in gameplay and a couple of sweet surprises, basically it's Half-Life 2 with HDR. In the terms of gameplay. Face it, and stop being stubborn.

Again, I'd like to emphasize that I do await Aftermath eagerly, and that I do trust in Valve and that in the end they're just gonna pull off another fine product.

You can't say that. The Source engine is as flexible as the Unreal engine.

Oh yes I can, loud 'n' clear. Even the Unreal engine has limits. And so does Source. Besides, Valve cannot change anything gameplay-wise without altering Half-Life classic gameplay, meaning, as I've said earlier, we'll only see minor surprises.

So.... what are we arguing about here?

just about silly release dates and Valve's tradition of delaying their titles til they feel they are perfect :p

iMMuNiTy said:
That Valve should stick to TBAs instead of giving out release dates. :p

I agree; but they didn't give out a release date

iMMuNiTy said:
They did; an estimate release date.

An 'estimate release date' isn't a release date, it's an ETA. Two different kettles of shark.

Okay, I preffer Valve to announce TBAs instead of ETAs. Happy now?

That's great, but given their release of an ETA, shouldn't you have taken it as such, whatever you might have preferred them to give?

Warning. Primary vocal receiver malfunction. Initiating brain shut down.

so Aftermath is not coming out until next year? Valve said it would come out this fall!!!

I don't think it will be released in the spring. Most likely 1 year from today

They said they were hoping for November, never planted a release date.
