Ryan Dunn, dead.

Don't you mean especially if he wasn't drunk? What else would it be if not stupidity?

Sure, it's totally less stupid to drive at over 100mph while inebriated. The effects of alcohol make it so much safer.

I think Veg was saying that it requires less scruples to do something like this sober than drunk. Or, in simpler terms, that being drunk makes you stupider.

This seems pretty dumb, but I mean... 3 light beers and 3 shots? I'm not much of a boozer but is that really adequate inebriation to make someone think speeding in excess of 100mph is a good idea? Seems like more of a case of good old fashioned recklessness to me. Which is still dumb, so hey.

This was vehicular homicide/suicide, he made the choice to put his life and his peer's life in peril, which is stupid. He Dunn ****ed up, no matter how much I enjoyed his antics. It's okay, I assure you, none of his friends or family read our boards, and he's too dead to be offended.

To all the people saying how you have no sympathy for him, how he's an asshole, and all this other bullshit. Jesus christ, get off your high horse.

If he was drunk (key word being IF) then yes it was stupid on his part. He made a big mistake. This mistake not only cost him his life it also cost the life of one of his friends. but it was a mistake. People make mistakes all the time.

The sad fact is that could have just as easily been someone that you loved. And if it was would you be here calling that person an idiot that you have no sympathy for? So why is it okay to do it with someone you don't know?

I'd still think my loved one was a ****ing idiot for drinking and driving.

Would you still feel bad for him/her and still have sympathy for them?

I think we can all agree that drunk driving and speeding to the point of insanity are stupid acts. But so many people in this topic are just getting way too ****ing bitter about this, and that's coming from me ffs. That a passenger died along with him is messed up, and he could have very well killed others if the accident had gone another way. That was wildly irresponsible of him if he was indeed intoxicated. And yet I'm not going to shit on the totality of his character based on his last act in life because for the most part he seemed like a pretty okay guy. That's not to absolve Dunn of what he did, but man do I pity anybody who gets completely discarded because of one stupid act they did. I'm sure there are quite a number of people on this forum who speed through traffic or have driven under the influence. I'm sure most of them are otherwise nice, good people, but little of that would ever be taken into account if we learned on the front page news they got drunk and killed another driver. Or am I wrong?

I think it's easier to diss Dunn because he gained his fame by acting like an idiot and hurting himself with others, so it's all "Go figure, that lout had it coming". But yeah.... he seemed alright to me.

I stood in silence for 2 minutes when gene roddenberry died but I wont for this jackass

I have to admit I was intrigued as to what kind of crash he had when I heard about it, until I saw the ''in his 07 Porsche'' at which point I just rolled my eyes.

He must have been drunk.

Still, waste of life and it's a sad day for his family and MTV. RIP.

And I would agree with you. My issue is with people implying he deserved it or that they have no sympathy for him or that he deserves absolutely no respect.

Who here hasn't gotten in a car after someone was drinking, even if it was just a little bit of alcohol

I never implied he deserved it, nor that deserves no respect (despite the fact that he earned his wealth from basically pissing about), but I have every right to say that he gets no sympathy from me. Because first of all, I don't even know him, and second of all, yes, he died by doing something very stupid, something that could have killed others. Saying 'what if it was one of your family' is dumb because he's not, and and even if he was, I'd still think he was a stupid arsehole for doing it.

I would never ever let someone else drive me if they've been drinking.

So for you to have sympathy or empathy for a fellow human being your qualification is that you must know the person?

And as tempted as I am about making a religious point here I'm going to do my best to not do so. Instead all I will say is that I truly feel sorry for the guy. I don't know what kind of person he was in real life. I have no clue if he was a good guy or an asshole. All I know is he is a guy not all that much older than me who made a really stupid decision one night and that one decision cost him and another person their life.

We can sit here and call him an idiot. We can sit here and talk about what a ****ing asshole he is. We can make all the judgements that we want. But he's not here to hear those judgements, he is dead. Dead because of one decision he made one night. The same decision that millions of people in this country make all the time (I have no doubt you know people that you care about who do stupid shit just like this). So I do have a great amount of sympathy for that even if I don't know virtually anything about the guy.

But hey, that's just me.

What do you mean when you say you have no sympathy for him?

Sympathy, maybe. Its a loss of life that perhaps above all others is easily preventable. To not deem him an idiot because of his actions, regardless of the tragedy, is to lack common sense. I know its hypotheticals, but I believe this thread would be more full of hatred had Dunn killed people in another car. Would you yourself have nothing but contempt had he killed a relative of yours? Even his mpther criticised that he was too reckless.

Would you have contempt for these people if it happened to be someone from your family that killed themselves because they had a few too many to drink? As I keep saying, people do stupid shit all the time. One stupid act does not make you a bad person. Maybe it makes you an idiot at that perticular time. But I don't see how you can't feel sympathy in this situation.

The people on this forum always intrigue me because I've never met anybody quite so self-righteous face-to-face. It's as if none of you have ever had one moment of bad judgement in your entire life. At the end of the day, a generally good natured human being (how he seems) has lost their life at a young age. Try and show just a little bit of human compassion.

I would feel sympathy, don't get me wrong. As opposed to contempt, I'd be angry that he or she had to die in such a fashion. It's just such a waste.

For the record I'm not calling him a bad person, just reiterating that he was an idiot at the time. I have heard this is certainly not the first time he has recklessly drove, in which case I'm hesitant to call this just one stupid mistake.

I did once, and it was after he had two beers and an hour of non-drinking.

I've known three times as many people who were killed by a drunk driver.

RYAN DUNN IS IN HELL!
DRAB PERVERT HAWKED PORN-LEVEL FILTH (E.G., TOY CAR
UP HIS RECTUM FOR ENTERTAINMENT) TO GET RICH OFF A
PERVERSE GENERATION. HIS “FRIENDS” & FAMILY LIED TO
HIM ABOUT GOD & TAUGHT HIM TO BE A PROUD SINNER.
IT’S TOO LATE FOR HIM; NOT TOO LATE FOR THE LIVING

Incredible. And I thought we were being disrespectful and unsympathetic.

Ah yes the WBC, still giving Christians an excellent name as always.

Sometimes, when I wonder if I'm going insane, I read a WBC missive to see if it suddenly makes sense.

Yeah well I just read through their site and its quite possibly one of the most appalling things I have seen in a while. Sent them a message as a Christian myself basically telling them to get over themselves.

I feel bad that he died, mostly because of the belief that human lives are important, and that someone will grieve for him.

However, I have not heard of this person until today, therefore I'm completely unaffected and cannot in whatever way sympathize or empathize with this man.

Haha, you obviously aren't very familiar with the WBC. Look forward to being told all the various sins for which you deserve an eternity in hell, cause that's about the best response you can expect from them (besides none at all).

What.

When I asked you what you meant by you not having any sympathy for this guy I was actually asking you a serious question. But I guess as a christian you didn't have time to answer that, it was much more important for you to tell WBC how you feel.

No I saw the question but I'm not answering it, because I know where its heading and I can't be bothered.
