Also, the American death toll in Iraq has surpassed the death toll of the 9-11 attacks.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061226/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq
According to most Americans Saddam Hussein himself flew the planes into the world trade center and parachuted out right before impact, then fled back to Iraq where he continued to help al quaeda and send Donald Rumsfield angry emails.
Right?
Well what is there to discuss? He got what was coming to him.
QFTGood.
Kim Jong Il should be next.
killing him on this particular day...makes ya wonder
Elaborate please ...
Eid ul-Adha aka "Eid" aka Kurban Bayramı
obvious enough..no!?
look it up then.
When Iraq is so unstable at present making their previous leader a martyr is just plain stupid, I'm sorry but this is just going to make clashes worse.
When they decided to put him to death they mustof known this. It's plainly idiotic, they must know it will provoke some serious reaction
You mean he is making his Haj towards eternal life?
And don't be so condescending. Some people are aware of islamic holidays when they are happening. I just wouldn't consider Saddam a devout muslim. Not by a long shot.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/12/30/hussein/index.htmlAs a noose was tightened around Hussein's neck, one of the executioners yelled "long live Muqtada al-Sadr," Haddad said, referring to the powerful anti-American Shiite religious leader.
He's a martyr to the sunnis only, they're the minority and they're the ones behind most of the sectarian violence. Get a clue.
"they must know it will provoke some serious reaction"
bravo madame soleil.
Yes they are a minority, but it doesn't take many sunnis to cause more innocent deaths, so you get a clue. He was a man with no political influence anymore, if his death causes more enraged sunnis to murder more innocent people, Coalition or Iraqi's, then is it really f***ing worth it... No, thats my point.
They've already killed thousands, they're already enraged, they've already bombed a Shiite market place. The death of Saddam won't provoke a surge in violence, it will be business as usual in Iraq. You can bet your ass had Saddam not been hanged, they still would've bombed that market place. Don't you think that if they could somehow increase the rate of suicide bombings and attacks on demand just like that, we'd be seeing thousands of retaliatory strikes by now all over the news?
That kindof arguement has no real justification your just speculating on the part of what the sunnis are capable of, and retaliation isn't going to happen within the first day the impact is going to be over time. Who knows if it will be worse or if it won't, but in all likelyhood it will still flare secretarian violence up even more.
I don't like the idea of anyone being hung.

@ raziaar: not permissible under international law ..handing over saddam to be executed to a non signatory party of the geneva accords is in violation of those self same conventions
so why did they sign the accords if they're not going to abide by them?
obviously you have no respect for the rule of law, doesnt mean that others shouldnt abide them ..especially if they're trying to paint themselves as "liberators" or "harbringers of democracy" ..it's hypocritical
No, I don't have respect for the rule of law where that law serves no purpose.
So, one of the worst men in existence
was given to the people he oppressed to execute. Oh, boo-****ing-hoo.
If Bush were somehow put in the same situation, you'd be jumping for joy no doubt.
