Ah you guys are right, but you gotta admit that was some good thinking. What if it said something like "HL" or something? :D

I bet the second test is another user/password that links to a different site.

However, finding them might not be so easy this time.
 
Just email Valve so we can get some closure about all this. I'm sure it'd help chris by stopping the spam, but given the nature of the people on the forums, I'm sure they'll find another reason to spam. :)

I wonder if "tenecu" is a foreign language word...

hey merc, will u be visiting Valve again for HL2 playtesting? just curious.. seeing as that could lead to another setup for more puzzles :dork: :)

well im not going today and havent heard anything from them but they told me i will probably be coming back to playtest some other areas of the game.. so who knows when the second test will come!

Has someone emailed Valve? I did but I never get their replies, so I won't guarantee an answer

If you're going to email them, ask this:

Is the second test ready?
 
that's quite a presumptuous question. With vavle you've got to be extra picky. Do you plan on continuing these "tests?" or If so, have sufficient clues been propegated to allow us to solve another one of these "tests?"

But unfortunately I'm not telling the truth. Just read 28 pages non-stop, this is good shit. I'm just pissed off that as of friday i won't have an internet connection for a good 3 months :eek:ooooooooo

So to sum up:

We have the first test page. There are 2 pictures which were uploaded by valve staff to (I presume) prove that it was official and controlled by them. I doubt these images have any clues to be honest.

The ASCII art is a little present, again i doubt it has any clues.

The keywords for the page are a google whack (they give just one page) which is a linux dictionary, with gman mentioned (a program in linux) and 'brute force' is referred to.

Have I missed anything? Dunno, I'll leave it there though.
 
there have been many futile efforts to dig deeply into what we already have (ie not waiting for an external stimulus but working with what we got) But yeah, that about sums it up.

Yeah I just joined 5 mins ago, I was intrigued by the "Asia Awaits" puzzle...
 
We might just have to use as was said earlier and "use brute force" or hack the site....

Anyone know if a person at valve likes Lynard Skynard? Bird+Freeman=Freebird-Lynard Skynard :D I doubt it.

Maybe there is a hidden sound or something on the site? Anyone cranked up their volume to listen? And has anyone tried anything else after /secret/ ? maybe we can discover a new URL if we go along with the secret/pwnzored thing or whatever the url was, maybe secret/leet or 1337, secret/owned secret/bentoveratablelikealittlegirl? I dunno.
 
I tried a few other names, 0wned etc, but didn't find anything
 
yep, looks like we're gonna be hackin' valve. how ironic. just for a generic comment, the site's got every port but 80 sealed. have fun!

This reminds me of last year when Valve released some E32K3 vids over steam and Chris_D and a few others went thru the cache files and picked out some extra vids that they hadn't released yet.

*sigh* this has been said a hundred times already. But, if you view the page's source, you get

<meta name="keywords" content="congratulations, cleverness, illicit, snapshots">

which is meta data to tell search engines what keywords are relevant to the page. In this case, plug in "congratulations cleverness illicit snapshots" to google and you get

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...everness+illicit+snapshots&btnG=Google+Search

Only one page, which is known as a google "whack" - the term came about because there were competitions where you had to find a google whack with just 2/3 words.

gman is mentioned in this file, but it's a linux program in this case. We're not sure how relevent this file is at the moment though.

What he means is that if you enter the words "congratulations, cleverness, illicit, snapshots" into google, you only get one page as a result. The page (or file actually) is a linux-dictionary where "gman" is mentioned as a program. The Gman-program is described as "The most basic job of gman is to build a database for all the man pages and display them (or part of them) on the screen.)

i dont know but some one posted some random letters and that reminded me of when gman was saying some stuff in a weird language in the E3 viedo
 
Can't remember what he says in chinese, but it was just a little joke, nothing relevent to this.
