How it would work:
- Item request to send as a gift in an email with an 'activation link' - all these get sent to me and I will then forward to your secret santa making it totally anonymous.
Read the thread!

We contacted Valve about this and they recommended this process. Editing your personal details out of the email which is sent to yourself = anon.

The thread is confusing!

I thought you said in your OP that we send the games to you and then you forward them? Or was that just for the list of game we want, and we send you our wishlist and you forward that?

So at gift time we can edit out our name and they wont see it? What does the email sent to yourself have to do with it?

/me confused.

You gift it to yourself via email. The email contains an activation link for the game. You forward the link to Glenn, who then passes it on to the gift recipient.

What if you receive a game that you already own?

You can't. When we start properly I will ask people to post their games list or link to their public Steam community profile so your SS can see your current games.

I don't have any money, sorry. :( In fact, buying LOST Season 5 is stretching it.

I'll join this if I have money to spare next month. I have to buy gifts for a lot of people D:

I'll participate. Haven't been around much in the past year or two, but most veterans should remember me. Probably mostly the people who have had pc related troubles. Also, much love to Glenn of course.

Hey, its Druckles and The Brick. Two people I havent seen for a long time...

Yeah, just noticed something funny;

And yeah I switched skin immediately.

I like the lot of you guys. I really do. I just found, imo, better ways to spend the countless hours I used to spend here. And it's not going change back I'm afraid, sorry.

Ahh, didn't know you could gift it to yourself. Suppose thats handy if you somehow accidentally set it as a gift when its for yourself. Thanks for clearing that up.

If you only can do games on steam it seems like kind of a dumb idea. Why not just use your money to buy a game you know you want?

I'd love to participate. If staff members allowed to.

This. It seems to fall somewhere in between giving real gifts (e.g. physical things with limitless variety), and people giving each other money. The latter being ridiculous since you're essentially swapping the same thing around, which completely negates the gift.

It would be pretty funny if a bunch of y'all end up giving and receiving the same game.

Everybody gives each other HL2?

You are essentially buying yourself a gift since you'll be receiving one back while sending someone one. But secret santa is fun because gift giving feels good (and being anonymous too) and receiving a gift which you don't know what it will be is fun. Don't tell me you don't like getting pressies.

Buying a game for yourself isn't anywhere near as much fun. Also it's a community event, it will be a laugh. With the Steam sales there will be a lot more choice.

Oh and lastly, Valve have contacted me and given me some extra free gifts for the SS to make things even more fun. Not sure how we'll be using them yet but we'll find a way. Didn't even ask for anything, Valve are so lovely!

I don't understand how people are so baffled by the whole concept.

Yeah why not, hopefully I'll be deemed trust worthy enough. Could be interesting!
