Hello yes it's that time again where I harangue you to vote in the fifth halflife2.net Short Story Contest. On the other side of that link you will find various stories on a theme, and it'd be greatly appreciated if you read the first post to get an idea of the topic and then decide on your favourite story.

To vote, send a PM to me with your choice of story (ie, entrant) in the subject line. I'll count up all the votes and bring them in in the small hours of the morning of Wednesday 27th January (which gives you till the end of Tuesday, ie midnight). EDIT: voting deadline has been extended another week.

God damn it this contest is underpublicised. We need some prizes for it!

I'll give the winner of the next contest a crayon. I'll even let him choose the colour.

Already voted! Need more people though!

I said I'd let him choose the colour! A crayon made from gold is no crayon at all.
The prize is a genuine, usable wax crayon.

I'll vote when I have enough time to read the entries. From a glance they look really good. When is the next contest? I started writing a short story last night that I really like, and I hope it fits the requirements for the next contest.

I have not actually started this story. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I admit that I have a story about a story which may or may not exist!

Don't worry, you're not breaking any rules until the waveform collapses.

I'm extending voting by a week, as I've yet to vote (oh dear) and others will probably want to. There's not really any rush. Another contest will likely begin a few weeks after this one concludes, and, as always, if you have any ideas for the subject let me know.

I probably should have procured some prizes during the steam sale, but I'll see what I can do. Possibly I will send each winner 1 (one) second-hand book (of their choice, from a pool?), although for further-away countries that's likely to be either expensive or slow.

The thing about poetry is that, well, judging by the entries we got for the L4D2 competition, almost nobody is any good at it. And that was for a prize!

Who would write good poetry about a video game??
Good poetry is about deeper issues.

Like how fugly a girl is, but how you'd have sex with her anyway.

Riomhaire, you seem to have a bit of a cold old chap...

Heh. Seeing as this was never announced: I won this. Isn't that great? But seeing as how Farrowlesparrow is banned (how did that happen?) I guess I'll never get my crayon.

He got banned for always promising crayons but never giving any.

I saw this thread and thought the contest was resurrected. Got my hopes up and everything.

I'm already camp enough.

But if somebody wants to resurrect this competition and administrate it, that'd be boss. I haven't really got the time myself.

I'd love to enter again. I may just resurrect this. edit:

ETA of entry thread for contest VI will be sometime before Sunday. Rules are going to be shifted a bit -- but will still allow a lot of creative liberties and all that hippie jargon.

Yay for Alby!

Any idea on the time frame allowed for this one?

I'm open for suggestions in that area. Given the time of year and class/work schedules it may need to be adjusted. So yeah -- not sure yet.

I don't remember the time frames for the last one, but I know I won't be able to even touch this for until the next Sunday after this one. That said I only need three or four days.

Yea this pretty much. Would 2-3 weeks be too long a time frame? Or too short?
