The skin on my right knuckles is very dry, somewhat grayish, and sometimes the skin cracks and bleed when I clench my fist. It looks like I have numerous papercuts on my right knuckles. And it is irritating when I wash my hands, slide my hand into my pocket, etc. I wonder if its just a rash. But anyways, I don't feel like seeing a doc or anybody about this because I don't want to pay big bucks to have them tell me something that a layman could have told me, like "oh it will go away over time" or "just rub (insert product here) on it"

Sounds like eczema. A doc would probably be able to advise you on what to do about it. But it's easier for me to say that because I live in the UK. NHS and stuff.

When in doubt, see a doctor. Translation: See a doctor.

Maybe it's eczema, maybe it's some non-threatening rash, or maybe it's a rash that is a symptom of something worse and more serious, or even life-threatening.

You won't know until you ask a doctor. You can just stop by an urgent care or health clinic, and it won't cost you too much.

I think that same things happens to me sometimes

be a man and bite that shit and deal whit it

It can happen to anyone, especially those who wash their hands often, especially in the winter. There isn't enough oil on your hands, and so the stretching of the skin is inhibited, for example when you make a fist, it can break the skin. Just use some hand lotion a couple of times a day and it will go away. Normally, you should do that before the skin breaks and you can recover faster.

Or maybe you have the Malaysian Death Rash and will die in 3 days with no warning without proper treatment. Ask a doctor, not internets.

Sounds like eczema. As a note, I have it too. they give you a shot of steroids and some cream. I still have this shit 5 years later. I just use lotion lots.

You guys go to the doctor over dry hands? Really? Course, I can't really say... I mean, my Dad is a doctor and my mom is a nurse, so I was just taught a shit-ton about healthcare. My mom in particular is a ****ing master.

^That.

My dad, sister, and I get cracked skin on our hands/knuckles every single winter. Any other season, it's totally normal. I don't even do anything to mine.

It doesn't sound like eczema to me. My cousin has eczema and it's all over and his face and arms are pink/red and peeling the entire year. Maybe his is just a really bad case, but it seriously is everywhere for him.

[edit] Try lotion, if it's not gone by spring, go to a dermatologist.
Dermatologists charge a heck of a lot for minimal service though, so be warned. Once I had to pay over $100 for some lady to look at a knee rash 10 seconds and say "it's healing you don't need to do anything." I wouldn't have gone to her in the first place, except my university's nurse put me on steroids just long enough to get me "addicted" and refused to write the step-down prescription until I saw this dermatologist.

And I did have insurance. It didn't apply. Frickin story of my life.

You are being possessed. Cut them off. The rest of the forum is in on a doctor funding conspiracy.

I get hand eczema from time to time. It flares up actually when I'm really stressed or when do things that keep my hands really dry for a long time. It doesn't sound quite like yours, but eczema comes in a decent number of different forms. It sounds like you need to avoid abrasive soaps and hot water when washing your hands and use lotions, particularly lotions that aren't water based. If that doesn't help then you should definitely go to a dermatologist.

in his (and my) defense, whenever I got a serious break out, my entire hand would turn into a dry, bloody and disgusting mess. This happened every few weeks.

so that happens when you wash too much? well I got another excuse to avoid cleaning myself

Sheesh this stuff happens to us here in the winter all the time, youre hands are just getting dry, they will often bleed and look like what you said,

If you are really that worried then yes see a doctor

Well, it's like chapped lips, you are much more likely to get it in the winter. When you wash your hands, you lose skin oils, yes. But they are replaced. I guess it's because there's more wind, you get less sun and there is less moisture in the air in the winter.

Just invest in a bottle of hand lotion (skin moisturizer). It's like $1 for a lifetime supply.

I had shit like that sometimes when I was younger. The best remedy is to make sure to dry your hands thoroughly after washing them, and also to use skin lotion on your hands at least once a day.

The only possible solution other than seeing a doctor is sacrificing a Japanese school girl to appease Cthulu.
