Silent Hill V will be the sixth installment in the Silent Hill survival horror video game series. The game is currently being developed by The Collective for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The story is based around a solider, named Alex Shepherd, whos is coming home from war. His life has changed somewhat since the last time he saw his family. His brother and father have gone missing, and his mother is in a catatonic state. Without much of a lead, he heads towards the eerie town of Silent Hill to find his brother who is the only person who can console his grief and somewhat unusual feelings towards the war.

I was gonna say textures look bland...

I played a demo of 4:The Room and crapped myself then my friend convinced me to see the film and I had little flaming children singing Johnny Cash haunting my dreams for weeks. It's funny how very little scares me but both Silent Hill experiences I've had, have.

Oh and how is it 6th in the series when it's called 5? Is it Like Code Veronica not being RE4?
 
There is Silent Hill Origins for the PSP which will be released this November
 
I really hope this game turns out well. I'm a big fan of the series.

Tho the game looks faster now, i hope this turn out to be good
 
I also hope this turns out well...Silent Hill is my second love next to the HL series. <3 *hugs her Pyramid Head shirt* SH 4 was good...but didn't seem enough like SH. I know a lot of people say that, but ....yah. :p
 
bit gutted its not team silent that are making it and some american studio, but i'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. these screens and footage look alright
 
When I first heard The Collective were developing it I wasn't filled with the greatest confidence I must admit, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until they can show us something substantial.
 
hmm the screens in the 1st post aren't the best, looks better in the vids, love the transition to the other world though, silent hill has always had good lighting and shadow effects so i would expect no less, sh3 on ps2 was arguably the best looking game on the ps2, i wish team silent were behind it though, i hope the story is good, sh2's story was brilliant.

If it isn't made by Team Silent, it isn't Silent Hill.
 
Looks like more Silent Hill...a good thing IMO.

2 and 3 were pure awesome and this one at least appears to be following that tradition. Silent Hill is all about atmosphere and no game does it better. Looks like must-buy for me until I hear/see otherwise.
 
origins is great!
tho the downside its on the PSP, you can't really get in the game's atmosphere.

Kinda agree with this.

I don't think it's a great game, for the reason you mentioned above. It's not great because it's impossible to get into the atmosphere and be immersed...something every Silent Hill game has relied upon heavily. It's a good adventure game, but not scary at all...which is a huge problem for any Silent Hill game.

IMO, Silent Hill is best left to the consoles. Shut the lights off, kick on the surround sound and be scared shitless. Bring on V. :bounce:
 
Silent Hill 2 was really the high point for this series. 3 was great, but 4 just ruined the whole experience. The videos look great, but I'm quite skeptic about it being developed outside of Konami. At the moment, I'm looking more forward to Alan Wake. The prospect of completely open-ended gameplay mixed with survival horror makes me salivate.

That would be nice but the vids for origins look like it still has akward movement like your pushing a block around..
Anyways, I love the SH series I hope they stay true to it. I really wish that the developers would pick up on what hl2 did and make everything happen in realtime as opposed to cutscenes all the time. That would make the world of silent hill really come alive.
 
Silent Hill scares me S***less i really can't even play any of the games.

Also 5 looks like it doesn't have that clunky way of steering and running anymore it looks more like an open view thing.
 
If you saw the e3 stuff you would see Pyramid Head is back which is really lame imo, like his role in the SH film.

Some of the graphics are really unimpressive for next-gen as well. The SH series have always had some of the best graphics on the platforms they were on.
 
One thing for sure has been improved, the voice acting.
 
I played the first and thought it was fantastic, but never played any of the others for some reason, but Ill deffo be getting this really, really want to play a game that has the power properly freaking me out, so far only the first Silent Hill has done that, Ravenholm gave me a a good few jumps, and FEAR was very spooky at times but I really want to be freaked out again xD

I scare too easily for this game. Doom 3, after having replayed it tens of times, still creeps me out. I played a level and a half of the first Silent Hill and never touched it again.

The fact that the controls are console-type 3rd-person had a lot to do with it too... can't stand that.

Doom 3 shouldnt even be marketted as a scary game, I laughed when I was meant to be scared, was pants.
 
Never tried a Silent Hill before, this looks pretty creepy, I'll give it a shot.
 
Silent Hill 2 is the scaries game I have ever played by far, but I haven't actually played any of the others. Might be worth keeping an eye on.
 
the original is far creepier than silent hill 2. sh2 is the benchmark of horror games though because it has a way of getting underneath your skin by clever use of sound an imagery. to be honest, i thought sh2 was way ahead of its time in terms of story telling and immersion
