What about some HL2 Oz Deathmatch? Anyone ever play this mod? It was an old server-side mod that added in grappling hooks, increased ammo stores for most weapons, increased RoF for the MP5, and runes. Runes were these glowing HEV suits (each glowed a different color) and they granted you different abilities, such as "crowbar does infinite damage," "cloaking," "vampire rune: every 2 damage you deal, gain 1 health."

I'd love to see it done in HL2, especially the grappling hooks. They'd have to be more realistic though, as in players launch the hook, then jump and it'll swing them across, or maybe pull them just a little bit if they're standing. Previously it was more like being Spiderman, which was cool, but it'd be awesome to have a more realistic, physics-based version.

Anyone else think Oz2DM would be a good idea?

To be perfectly honest I can't say i've played this, though from what you describe it reminds me of the good old Lithium mod for Quake 2.

I'd personally like to have some more fun with the good old vanilla HL2DM first, but this would be fun to see. :)

I never played Oz Deathmatch either. I investigated into it but never bothered actually playing the thing.

I miss Op4 CTF, mind. Despite awful netcode it truly was fun, and that happened to *ahem* borrow the powerup idea too, to great effect.

Or how about The Specialists: Source. That would kick ass!

It was ok but with all the mods that will be coming out i just cant see this catching on again. But again i could be wrong.

I think it would be an awesome idea, I loved that mod.

Specialsts:Source is the mod im most looking forward to, if they make it

just imagine the crazy levels and battles you will get into if they make the specialists: source

mmmm

they just released Half-life 2, and you should be happy that you got that... I honestly could care less about mods right now, I've been waiting for it for over a year, and now I have it. I'm happy, and am not worrying about other stuff... besides, you have HL2DM, HL source, CS:Source, and soon to come DoD source. If you want more, than your a bit greedy.

"vampire rune: every 2 damage you deal, gain 1 health."

Hmm. Might have to pull this one out, or at least tweak it down. One shot with the rockets, bow, or 357 would bring your health way too far up. More than 50%, even, perhaps.

Haha, I'm not being greedy, SkateXer, I'm talking about in the future. Awhile in the future, actually; I'm having a lot of fun with plain old DM as it is. I was just thinking about it last night since the original was just a "simple" server-side modification that could be cooked up in a couple months or so.

I agree wholeheartedly about Specialists: Source, but I really doubt it'll happen. The reason is that the original head of the team never had any intention to make an HL2 version of TS. Although leadership changed hands, if I recall correctly, it's still probably not worth holding your breath over.

That isn't to say that someone isn't going to make an action mod...remember that there was The Opera, Action Half-Life, and The Specialists, and each one was very popular. It's a popular genre. Even I've thought up some design documents for an action-type mod, but unfortunately I have no talent to code or map or model.
