So what have you been reading lately?

"The Empire of the Angels"

I liked the prequel better.

I dont seem to have anything to read lately.

Reading War of the Worlds, for like the tenth time...

Just finished "7 Ancient Wonders" by Matthew Reilly - my favourite author!

Also to anyone who is thinking about reading Dan Brown...Leave it a little while so you forget all the hype. I like his books but I couldnt imagine reading his stuff now until all the hype dies down. Im glad I read "The Da Vinci Code" a couple of years ago when it first came out because otherwise it would probably be a big let down.

I liked Angels and Demons personally.

Is that the one which makes revolutionary use of new techniques for bringing the story alive and breaks all traditional limitations of conventional paper-based media (for example, flipping the page back and forth for punching action)?

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. It's a really interesting read.

Also, I love all the Discworld books by Tezza P :D

Eeek, don't read the novelization.

BUT, keep reading the comic. It's awesome.

I like the novel, tbh.
Haven't even taken the comic out of its sleeve yet. :X

I'm trying to find posters of the show too... trying to squeeze as much Firefly as I can out of the merchandising aspect.
I already managed to score a shirt off of ebay. :D

Millions by Frank Cottrell Boyce. Wus wellz goodz!

I'm reading The Scheme for Full Employment at the moment by Magnus Mills, it's going alright....

I'm reading Children of Dune. I'm only a few chapters in, but it seems to be much more like the original than Dune Messiah.

Just finished Frankenstein. The monster was surprisingly eloquent.

Just finished Going Postal by Pratchett, now reading The Fifth Elephant

some books for summer assignments :|

The Real Frank Zappa Book by Frank Zappa
The Human Zoo by Desmond Morris
I, Robot by Isaac Asimov

I finished reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley a few weeks ago, and I just finished Lonely Planets by David Grinspoon. It was a fascinating book book about alien life (nonfiction). It looked at the history, science and beliefs involved with the subject. It kinda put a lot of stuff in perspective for me. Good read, I recommend it.

some books for summer assignments :|

Ah, yeah.

I just read Monster by Walter Dean Myers... apparently when we get back to school we're going to get tested on this shit, and it's going to count for the first quarter grade. ftl. D:

I had to read A Clockwork Orange and Lord of the Flies

But I read those years ago and I remember a fair amount so I don't think I'll reread them again.

1984, which is fine, but i have to write like 15 two paragraph dialectical responses to it (EW), and then the remains of the day by kasuhiro ishiguro or some shit.

Remains of the Day is good. And...pfft, writing paragraphs. Women's work. Bitch, bitch, bitch. :p

i do not want to write 60 paragraphs about two books when i already think enough about them to understand what's going on, nor do i want to write an essay on someone who's inspired me.

it'll be easy, but i hate that kind of shit

It's summer and I've been slacking off my normal reading but I was reading R.U.R. by Karel Capek a few weeks ago and Dune by Herbert back before school ended. I need to get back to reading them.

i am reading Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. great read, the story inspired Apocalypse Now.

Dirk Gently's Holistic detective agency.
Dylan Dog\Nathan Never comics.

Currently inbetween Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut, and A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick.

I have a million and a half other books to finish too. Curse my bad habit of buying books everytime I step foot in a book store!

i went on a PK Dick reading spree the other month, finished eight or nine of his books... A Scanner Darkly was awesome. I still haven't seen the film.

What's some of his other good stuff? I really really like his style. Reminds me of a sci-fi-ish Burroughs.

I still need to see Scanner Darkly too. And Waking Life, for that matter.

Nope.

Mr. Machima, could you please compile me a list of favourate books I would recomend, I think we have similar tastes.

I really enjoyed The Man Who Japed.

and yeah, DEM, I still haven't read The Man in the High Castle, I've not seen a copy around.

Well obviously, anything by Hemingway. I know you enjoyed For Whom the Bell Tolls. Should probably get The Sun Also Rises or Farewell To Arms.

Anything by Kurt Vonnegut. I'd start off with Sirens of Titan or Slaughter-House-Five.

If you're a philosophical man, The Stranger by Albert Camus is a must read, Metamorphisis by Kafka, No Exit by Sartre, and Notes from the Underground by Dostovesky. I probably spelled his name wrong there...

The Stranger is a very good book. Makes you think more about yourself as an asshole.

I've been reading books for school :(

I read one called "uglies" and another one about a nazi kid. Now I'm reading Farewell to Arms by hemmingway and The Scarlet letter
