Halo: Reach to be the last Halo franchise gamehttp://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=24578

Reports have surfaced on the web that Halo: Reach will be Bungie's last game in the franchise, while the company's first original IP, yet to be announced, is "close" to finding its publisher -- and Peter Jackson's Halo game appears to be dead.

Consumer site IGN quotes Bungie senior designer Lars Bakken as saying, "After Reach that's it for us. We're already working on a new IP that we can't talk about yet, I don't know when we'll be talking about it -- when we're ready I suppose."
I can see more rip-offs and cash cows by Microsoft ... but looks like the end of the proper Halo franchise.

I love it how so often these days the distributor (in this case Microsoft) has the rights to the game.

It probably goes something like this:

Developer: We have this great new game that is sure to be a success!! Aww, but we don't have money to mass produce and distribute it...
Distributor: I can do that for you... If you give me the rights to the game.
Developer: Sure whatever.
Distributor::devil: $$$

Why do people even care if Halo is milked to death? Especially when they are not even Halo fan?

So what if Bungie is acting like Nintendo and square enix?

I can't wait to probably never purchase another Halo game ever again

(I miss my 360 and Halo 3 :()

Milking =/= Bad, necessarily. In the case of Halo though...

Mario spin-offs are usually not good, Mario games usually are.

Halo spin-offs are usually not good, Halo games usually aren't either.

Lotsa anti-fanboyism going on in here.
Which is also a form of fanboyism.
:3

Whatever, it's not like I'll buy any more.

LoL. I'm not saying Halo is a good series. The only Halo title I cared about was Halo Combat Evolved.

But fact that he's saying no one wants to hear about Halo when the series are sold over million units isn't considered logical.

And he's only speaking for himself. What about me? I want to hear about Halo.

The only person here allowed to like Halo is Warbie. Everyone else can GTFO.

I've been a fan and I can't wait to get the game. I don't really care bout the economics of the game, just want to play it ^.^ PC version would be awesome also

No it isn't.

26.17 people million cares.

And I have a cold hard fact to prove it. But you don't. End of case.

Compared to how many million gamers overall? Not to mention the general feeling of hate for Halo you get around these parts.

Yeah, well that goes same for mario and FF7 as well.

...err yes? I'm not sure what your point is here so I'm just going to agree.

:)

I want more Halo goddamnit. I want to know what MC's going to do now is stranded in deep space - new, non covenant/flood aliens and a BSG style journey back to earth??

ODST will do for now, but soon the shakes will set in :sniper:

I honestly don't care.

If they want to stop what was a great seller for the company and possibly jump onto another that would be insufficient because the impact won't be as high when they realise the same old crap they produced before was only sold to those who tagged along the series since the first game and can't be continued as a ground breaking hook base title?

Slap on a slogan saying "We're insinuating yet bankrupt" why don't you.

Didn't the topic creator read his own post?

It's BUNGIE'S last Halo game, not THE last Halo game.

Regardless of them not making it, they're still selling the franchise along with the fanbots to another company. Big investment and a big deal of weight on the shoulders IMO.

Who's selling what franchise to who now?

Microsoft has technically owned the Halo franchise ever since they bought Bungie back before XB1s launch.

And afaik, Microsoft will still own the Halo IP/franchise, so there's no selling.

So, please my dear Naph, elaborate!

microsoft still have gears of wars which dont seem to be leaving anytime soon

Bit meh tbh, Don't see what all the halo rage is about personally.

BTW Barnz I <3 your avatar, smoking mirror FTW!

Same thing. The Halo series can't continue on its current narrative storyline without Bungie. It just wouldn't work.

Any further games that Microsoft involve the Halo franchise in will undoubtably be games in the same vein as Halo Wars; games set in the same universe but with very different mechanics and storylines.

You're not making any sense, the franchise will continued to be owned by Microsoft, as it has been for over 9 years..

So no-one's selling anything.

Anyway, I like the Halo games, there are far worse cases of milking franchises out there.

*Cough*MetalGearSolid*Cough*FinalFantasy*Cough*HalfLife

Who said Bungie wasn't going to be selling it to another. However, for a company to destroy a potential for more games, why not get money by leaving it. Certainly a good idea that is a win win situation, those that like the games and the company that may need the extra cash when they fork it out onto a future game.

Naph, for some reason I can't seem to make any sense of your posts.

You tell me. You are the one who said "people doesn't want to hear about Halo". But I doubt you would find exact number of people hating on Halo.

Not to mention the general feeling of hate for Halo you get around these parts.
Lulz, what general feeling of hate? So you are just a random hater who happens to dislike a game with no reason.
