only cuz according to the financial analyst ..xbox360 isnt "next gen"

"New cycle to commence with PS3, predicts Wedbush Morgan report"

"Wedbush Morgan's interactive entertainment industry analyst Michael Pachter has produced a report on the next-gen console war, predicting that the new cycle will not begin until the PS3 is released in late 2006.

"We think that many investors have misinterpreted the launch of the Xbox 360 as the beginning of the next generation, and expect rapid sales growth in 2006.

"In contrast, we expect the launch of Sony's PS3 (expected in late 2006) to mark the beginning of the next cycle, and think that rapid sales growth will not materialize until 2007."

if this is true, what does microsoft have up it's sleeve?

please no console fanboyism ...I dont care which system is "cooler"

he's right. I just read in Gamespot that Gears of War ran a pretty sketchy framerate on the Xbox 360. It might not be the trigger we all begged for.

Article from some nobody versus the footage we've seen of the Xbox 360 and its games, with potential for many years of games with ever-increasing quality. Hmm.

The games shown for the Xbox 360 are currently running on alpha developer kits, which match about 25-40% of the console's actual capability.

Well, that GoW stuff was incomplete and running on dev kits, which aren't as powerful as the real thing... Plus, Sony can't actually afford to price the PS3 reasonably, where as Xbox 360 can priced normally. Sony have been suffering financially recently, and as advanced as this hardware is, it'll cost them a bomb to put each unit out at $299.

I know that, but I considered they may have used smaller less agressive maps so that wouldn't happen (and it still didn't work ?)... Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm really getting on this Cell hype. If the PS3 turns out to be the most powerful console I might consider going that way instead of Xbox.

I'm not a fanboy, I had the Dreamcast-PS2-Xbox and I was happy with a side of them all. It comes down to Halo 3 vs KillZone for me :cheese: If Bungie pump out something impressive I'll buy it.

I love M$ because I know they'll keep eating away good dev teams to fuel the Xbox. They've got too much money to lose this battle.

Well, at least we're actually seeing footage from the Xbox camp, which is more than can be said for the PS3.

If you see the killzone 2 trailer or that motor storm trailer (which am still sure wasn't in game) you will aggree with those statements.

$299? You're dreaming if you think any of the next-gen consoles will be put out at that price.

I expect the Revolution to come in cheaper than that, and the Xbox 360 a little more. Sony have already said they'll never make a console that launches for $299, so I'm fully expecting this thing to touch $450 at first if they intend to try and stave off at least some of the cost this'll bring.

They said they're aiming for something cheaper this time.

One problem that I havn't heard anyone talk about is the difficulty in developing games for the PS3. I severely doubt porting games to the PS3 will be nearly as easy as it is for the current gen systems (and its already pretty difficult).

The unique technology they are using could prove to be their downfall.

that would be cool.

opps forgot they said it was running on renderware >_<

he'll I might end up getting the xbox360 just for that wifi wireless streaming media to the xbox360 thing. I can leave the system in the living room leave my pc in my room and hopefully stream any movie from my pc to the xbox360.

Both the XBox 360 and the PS3 are harder to develop on. PS3 may be harder since most developers aren't familiar with the intricacies of the Cell processor yet, however both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 use in-order processing meaning the chips are cheaper and smaller to produce but harder to program for.

Its not just the difficulty in starting from scratch though. Trying to take a game originally done on a PC and porting it to the PS3 could prove to be one hell of a task.

I already figured PS3 would "win" any way, if only because Sony has such a massive following. It will be some time, I believe, until we see a more balanced industry split.

on the same site there's an article that claims the ps3 will be $465 US ..more in europe

I think some of you are missing the point: this is a financial analysts opinion ..he's looking at cold hard figures (based on market predictions) as to the upswing in games sales ..that wont be dramatically increased till the ps3 is released ...it's not based on specs or graphics or even games but rather on market share:

"Pachter predicts that game purchases by both Xbox and PS2 owners will slow down as the release date for each next-gen console draws near and that only the hardcore fanbase will purchase them in the months immediately following launch, making 2006 transitionary year. But 2007 will see "the ramp", says Pachter - "the PS3, the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Revolution and PSP all out and starting to mature."

If they do offer the console for cheaper they will probably jack up the price of the software...

The Killzone video looks great, but the fact that it's all prerendered just makes Sony look like they're desperately trying to win praise by chunking out videos like this.

I dont think this is true. But i do think that PS3 won most powerfull system.

I dont care for consoles at all really, but it defintly looks like PS3 is gonna be the most popular. By far the most powerful, and I think it has the biggest development and back of developers (EA is pretty huge even if they are nazi's).

Or maybe it's the fact that most developers haven't even got the final dev kits yet? Or the fact that most of these developers haven't had these devkits for more than a few months? Or the fact that they're working with a bran new type of hardware?

Sony needed something to show, and it's blindingly obvious that most of these companies didn't have the time nor the resources to throw out fully real-time demos for the conference.

M$ was a little more honest and showed a chunky FPS Gears of War instead of just pre-rendering... Maybe they know they can beat the Cell ? :O

They just didn't see the reasoning to bullshit their consumers maybe ? :O
Maybe they're aiming for a stract of the gaming scene that would know that the Killzone footage is pre-rendered and they wanted to show the real stuff... :O

EA supports Microsoft more actually. Also I really don't know if developers will like the PS3 more since it undoubtably will be much more difficult to work with.

Amen.

At least MS has the balls to show off their games, even if they are on alpha dev kits; they still look fscking amazing though.

Hopefully Nintendo shows off some of their Revolution software, but they're being mighty mysterious about their new console. *hopes*

[edit] Not trying to cause Sony any serious disrespect. I realize they haven't had dev kits out for very long, but it seems as if Sony will be the only ones without real-time footage to show for next-gen consoles.

Micro$oft got their dev kits out before Sony meaning XBox 360 developers have had more time to work on their games. Ideally PS3 developers would have liked more time to work with the dev kits but E3 is practically un-miss-able, especially when other competitive consoles are there.

the epic guys that ported a demo of the U3engine say that it was easy to program

in gamespot and ign are a article about it

Hopefully Sony will win because I don't want Micrsoft's anti-gamer box.

interesting articles on the next gen consoles.

eurogamer is a very well respected site and they say that the ps3 basically owns the xbox360, they also wrote this article in response to accusations by members of bias, interesting reads all of em.

also gs reported that the ps3 will be under $500, http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/18/news_6125423.html

why is it that nintendo never gets a proper mention in these sort of articles when both GC & PS2 thoroughly stomped on the xbox in japan and the GC and Xbox were very similar in terms of sales in america? (going from what i've heard, i havn't been able to find much in the way of overall sales figures)

Eurogamer went completely knee jerk reaction on us... I was a little suprised actually.

"It has big specs on paper! Pre-rendered videos looked great! Sony wins!!11"

I really don't think that Sony can financially keep all the features they've unveiled, but we'll just have to see I guess.

I severely hope Sony doesn't "win", the last thing we need is a clear cut winner in something like this because it will just reduce competition and gamers as a result will suffer.

so was i, they really, really, really were impressed with the ps3.

this quote sums it up for them

Outclassed? Undoubtedly. Sony's hardware, its software, and even its simple display of confidence in its own product have completely outclassed Microsoft today

That's mostly why I thought they got it a bit wrong - Sony didn't actually show off any software, just pre-renders... "Confidence in their own product"? What did they expect?

"Oh, hey, we're not too sure how this will go. We're only going to make 200 initially, to see if they sell or not. If they don't, I guess we'll have to do something else."

You can bet anything that Microsoft's going to fight to the end - the parameters are much more even here, as opposed to this generation of consoles where Sony had the large time lead and previous console popularity.

Sounding a lot like they did with the PS2 when they claimed it was more powerful than the Xbox and the Gamecube. Turned out it was the weakest of the three.

Until one hour ago I thought that X-box would rock, but after seeing the Killzone 2 trailer I've changed my mind.
