one thing I'm left wondering is how moddable is spore.

perhaps we can add some of what was lost

There's a "Themes" option when starting a new game at any stage... so I think they want the game to have mods of sorts.

Picking it up tomorrow! \o/

My niece and nephew are going to love this (they already have the creature creator and are obsessed with it).

I sometimes wonder what some of you were expecting from this game ?_?

It is great, not perfect, but great. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but so what :p

And that's why you aren't supposed to go about killing everyone. If you're friendly the whole time, you won't have that problem.

The game should fun regardless of how you choose to play it (which is encouraged), including as a war-faring race. This should not mean that I have to spend most of my time in space defending planets. You'd think that by being a massively aggressive and powerful race, it would discourage attacks. Regardless, the game should at least allow for a decent amount of time between attacks to do other stuff.

Spore

This is my 'review' from the rate the last game you played thread.
Spore - Awesome/10

Seriously, this game is ****ing deep. I run it medium-high with 1gig ram and 7600gt, so most of you should be ok, I haven't tried the creature creator before I played it, so that's really fun to me, but most of you have probably played it to death.. I'm only at the second stage (before having villages), where you get to make one guy overrun other nests, make allies, make packs, etc, etc. Cell form is very fun, reminds me of FL0W alot. I called my first planet Eart. Very imaginative I am.

Definitely a VERY fun game, worth the hype, in my opinion.

Also you can make movies, take screens and all that, but there is an option to record either your creation of your creature (it shows each step you did) and your creature doing an act in an animated gif.

I would post my Spider Monkey in an animated gif (it's funny), but my internet is ****ed up right now..

Honestly this game deserves a thread, I never hyped this game, was expecting it to be garbage, etc, etc. But I played it for the past 3-4 hours, and it's AWESOME. Seriously!

EDIT: My races name is Penii.

Can't wait to pick mine up Sunday...

How are the creature spawn filter/restriction settings? Could I add keywords to a list to tell it to filter out all stupid "creatures", objects/vehicles/planes/letters/etc.?

Awesome game indeed.

I love it, space stage is getting a bit repetitive though, damn allies can't take care of their own shit.

You can select a creature and request that it be banned and then MAXIS/EA/whomever reviews your request.

This. Maybe I just suck massively, but the space age was not very fun at all, though I see how it could be.. I got attacked from all over while I was still trying to colonize things, and I'd been playing very non-aggressively. Since I had no money and not many colonies, I was pretty much stuck in very boring gameplay. Also, lack of autosave kinda blows.

I don't think you understand my question...

The game populates the planets with random creatures from the Sporepedia, and you're supposed to be able to filter the creatures the game is allowed to populate your planets. (filtering out penis monsters, cars, planes, computer monitors, etc.)

So...

How are the creature spawn filter/restriction settings? Could I add keywords to a list to tell it to filter out all stupid "creatures", objects/vehicles/planes/letters/etc.?

They automatically filter out inappropriate creatures.

So you're saying there are no filter options? The game just filters the inappropriate creatures, and there's no way for me to keep the game from populating the planets in my universe with car monsters, plane creatures, desk lamp creatures, etc., etc.?

I don't see any... and I don't think there's any reason to filter anything unoffensive.

Has anyone found a planet yet with penis monsters?

No, but I made allies with the payer people

As in pears....with eyes :|

As for my creatures, they look like mal-nutritioned bears with mustaches :p

Is anybody still having problems with their Logon?

Found an easter egg : Spin the galaxy in the menu. :D

Also, in the creature stage ...if you swim too far out in the water something happens. ;)

Witnessed my first rare astronomical phenomenon:

This game is the sechs.

Who were those people on the pictures?

I've started to just ignore my allies when they cry for help, since it doesn't hurt our relations at all.
Unless I want to take a break from exploring and trying to save my own ass from the hostile top hat frog race called Grrman.

I played for an hour and got from cell to creature, then stopped for about a half-hour, then I played for 5 hours (I couldn't believe what time it was when I turned off the game), and I went from beginning a new creature to getting into space. ****ing long game.. I have a feeling space is the longest?

I made every single one as 'evil' as I could be. My buildings all had spikes and shit, I killed everyone, made no alliances at all, now after I play space mode and kill everyone a bit, I may start a new omnivore/diplomat profile on some other planet.

Of all the modes, even though they are all very fun, I'd have to say the worst is civilization, it's just like every other RTS, except you make your own stuff, still fun, the others are way more fun (I still think cell is the most fun, doesn't take as long to make your critter, so more time for play, although it is fun to make a new creature, it's just time consuming).

You're going to be destroyed in space if you make enemies with everyone without being properly equipped.

You should see my ****ing ship, lol. It's a disc with a window in the middle, and every gun available strapped to it...

I wish that actually meant it was strong, if it did my tanks and ships and airplanes would destroy.. I made them all basically a body made of guns, lol.

Must... get... to... Space....

Too bad I can't play again till tomorrow.

This game is epic, very close to space...

I haven't played it yet admittedly however in case anyone is interested I imagine the new zero punctuation will be spore as I am listening to a podcast with yahtzee just now and he hdoesn't like the game.

Could my 4 year old computer run it? I have no idea what the specs are before you ask.

My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE  shit I know.

Is it sufficient? The memory and stuff are fine.

I think so. You're cutting it close but I think it meets it.

I want to play <cries> We haven't even ordered it.

Hopefully I can just borrow it off my cousin and it'll work fine.

Hrmmm... I appear to be running a Geforce 8800GT. That should be ok.

I keep forgetting to ask, but I finally remembered - Wasn't there supposed to be a water creature stage? Like the animal stage (the same perspective), except in water? I was pretty sure I seen a screen/video of a guy controlling a fish in a 3 dimensional world, not just a bigger cell...

how are you people playing this game, isnt it released tomorrow?

Maybe in crazy land.

It's been out for at least a week here.

Probably going to be in an expansion.

I was trying to play Spore vicariously at the xspore forums (thanks Google!) and found this curious thread:

I've noticed... that everyone on this forum is heavily let down by Spore. The funny thing is, everyone on non-spore forums loves it. Just take a look at this thread.

This is from Halflife2.net, probably the largest HL2 fanbase. The thread started about the PC Gamer review, but reading on, especially the most recent posts, everyone is absolutely in love with it.

And absolutely everyone here isn't. Makes you think, really. I think EVERYONE on this forum was way too expectant. There were people on that forum who never heard of it until recently and they were completely blown away.

tee hee
