Starcraft 2: Multiplayer

Sentry Scramble is what I am addicted to at the time. SOOOO FUUNNN The custom scene is starting to kick into full force finally.

I'm still waiting for some better special forces, evolves, and Bound maps. But the featured ones are usually pretty in-depth, and neat.

Yeah, I really can't wait to see some really large and custom RPG's. Ones with more shit customized. I am wondering when Blizzard is going to implement their "Buy maps" for those ones that are 100% custom..? I guess whenever someone makes em lol.

Some cool stuff:

Algorithms Discover Build Order From Hell

This is mad. Over on StarCraft 2 forum Teamliquid, a poster who goes by Lomilar has been talking about a program he’s coded called EvolutionChamber. It uses genetic algorithms to find powerful build orders, meaning his program takes a population of build orders, kills off the useless ones, and has the most successful ones reproduce asexually to create a new population, which tests itself again, and so on.

Can a Machine Beat a Human at Starcraft?

A squadron of tanks sits patiently on a bridge. Smaller reconnaissance vehicles inch nervously ahead, probing for signs of the enemy. Suddenly, two allied spaceships zoom overhead. They illuminate a horde of hidden alien spider-robots. The aliens' cover blown, they attack. The battlefield erupts into chaos.

Called StarCraft, this space-war strategy game is played in real time. It's normally played by humans, but this particular match is different. The commanders in charge of each side are sophisticated artificially intelligent "bots" competing in the first ever StarCraft AI tournament, the finals of which were held earlier this month at Stanford University in California. The game is emerging as the next arena to put machine intelligence to the test - and could even provide the inspiration for the next big advance in AI.

That roach rush was cool. I've been trying different builds for a ray rush, but usually when I get roach rushed it shuts me out.

Haha, I've been playing with the Zerg Build Order Tester for a couple weeks. It's so fun just to put something ridiculous in there and see what it pulls out. There is no way that can truly be used in a game, at least on the dot, mainly because everything is pretty much instant *Dur a computer is doing it*. Human error ftw!

The AI Tournie is amazing to read up on. It's amazing to watch them dance Wraiths around on Hydras, and not lose a single Wraith.

So, I still completely blow at this game.

I'm finding with the noob maps (still on practice league) that i'm not able to scout because of the rocks that keep you in.

Everyone I play against just gets Battle Cruisers and Thors.

Should I just move to ladder and play in the scum leagues? I want to be able to scout early and counter things, not just go straight for the 2 game ending units :(

I worry that i'm not good enough for ladder, are the low leagues just full of noobiles like me yeah?

Played my 5 placement matches. Lost all 5. 2 of them to cannon rushes.

This game is so horrible, at one point I was trying to micro my banshees to his base, and then a load of waypoints started coming up and it was grouping all of my barracks and factories with it and all the units coming out were trying to follow the Banshees!

Starcraft 2 hates me, and the feeling is mutual. I'm just going to get Black Ops and forget I ever played this.

Is there a hotkey for deleting/resetting rally points? It's really annoying when I have all hatcheries in one hotkey and suddenly I notice that one of them has lost all rally points...

Edit: Right clicking on a hatchery while it's selected will reset rally points :'/

So, because you're not badass without anybody helping you get better, you're just going to give up? You're going to lose just about all of your games early on. If you really wanted to be anywhere near decent at the game, you gotta take your licks and keep at it.

Yes, right clicking on a hatch removes em all *Same with any production building*

This happens if you're holding the shift key down. It can mess you up big time. Just be mindful of how your hands rest when you play.

I have had only a couple times where the key got bugged and stuck, which takes a second to mash some keys to reset it.(very rare)

Yes, but it tends to happen more with Zerg as you are constantly using hatcheries and managing the drones around them.

Jesus Christ, I hate TvT.

It's always a 1/1/1 build for me now, because the maps are larger and marine rushes don't work as well anymore, what with the supply prerequisite and all that.

So, I have to go 1 Helion + marine push early on, which doesn't work if the other guy has enough wits to build a bunker.

I withdraw, and come back with a tank, which doesn't work, because the other guy usually goes 1/1/1 too and has 1 more tank than you.

Finally, I get a banshee and do some damage, until his Vikings cruelly and painfully violate her.

Then for the next 15 minutes we sit around making a tank + viking line, no one trying to push, until I get some Battlecruisers and push them with vikings against his tank line, and at 35 ~ 40 minutes into the game, I've finally won.

TvP, 10 ~ 13 minutes into the game, my Marine + Banshees utterly destroy all and I win.

TvZ, 5 minutes into the game, my 3 Barrack marine push either works, in which I win, or it doesn't, making me have to hold out desperately until I lose, 10 minutes later.

Yes, this is what happened. I wasn't holding any keys down, just clicking and it was making a load of waypoints, and then when I was selecting stuff it was adding it to a group. I had waypoints all up and down the place and going in and out of my barracks, and my marines were rallying to my banshee and then back to the baracks etc, it was chaos.

While this was going on, he had medivac'd 7 seige tanks into my main, seiged them up and was blowing the place to hell.

Is it a bug? It's happened to me twice.

This game is hard enough without that shit to confuse me.

I played another 2 games after my post earlier. Lost both.

I think that it is a rare bug. It has happened to me no more than 5 times and I've played 400+ games.

If you cycle through your production buildings regularly like you should you'll notice if your waypoints are off and you can fix them quickly. You should adjust them often as you move your base and army forward anyways.

That problem happens to me all the time. Steam overlay issues.

I wish there was an option to tick of that right click ******ry... Happens to me like every second time I inject.

Edit: What key resets the whole ****ing controll group? Getting so damn pissed, if my rally points aren't ****ed then my control group has reset to null. FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

That's interesting. I've played nearly 400 games and that has never happened to me.

Do you guys run any other programs other than SC2? Try turning those off.

Well I watched the replay and it didn't change to null. I for some reason pressed ctrl+4 while having a queen selected. :/

I'm really starting to struggle with Protoss. Goddamn gay ass phoenix/void ray in to colossus build. You can't build a single air unit, hydras don't do shit since he'll just pick up every single one of them, infestors are down right terrible. Well infestors are good if the toss is a paralyzed veggie with negative apm.

Am I the only one who thinks cannons are frigging op? 150 minerals for static defense, that shoots both air and ground. REIG

This is what I do: Standard 1/1/1 build, build 2nd barracks whilst building factory, build 2 starports. The first air unit should be a raven; it has a skill that negates many ranged projectile attacks. Then go banshees. You should continue to build marines, and the occasional marauder. Marines are good AA.

Continuously building marines will prevent void rays from attacking, until you have a viking. If you're going a MB+R build, just build one or two vikings.

About 10 ~ 11 minutes into the game, you should have:

30 marines
6 cloak capable banshees
1 fully charged Raven

or a variation thereof. Push through the Protoss lines, try to save your banshees as much as possible, and you will either destroy your opponent or at the very least do some significant damage. I advise building a CC and several barracks and switching to Marauder production during and right after your MB+R push.

So, ignoring the waypoint issues i've had, can anyone give me any tactical advice?

I want to know how i could have prevented the cannon rushes vs protoss, and the siege tank medivac into my base by the terran? How would i know these things were coming? Even if i knew, how would i counter?!

I'd really love to have a european sparring partner if we have any? I expect to be shit, but i'm getting rick-rolled in bronze.

Thing is, i cant stop liking this game, i mean, i LOVE it. I'm subscribed to a bunch of sc2 channels on youtube, and i cant stop watching vids about it, i love watching high level players!

The easiest way to counter a cannon rush is to send two probes after the one that's building, or block him, and get zealots as fast as possible. To guard against medivacs, keep some stalkers, and void rays available for use. Build as fast as you can, and play with build orders to figure out what works best.

If you're using a different race, pretty much what I just said, just replace with the appropriate zerg/terran units. (Vikings and curruptors tear the shit out of medivacs.)

What's your race? Cannon rushes are easy to counter, if you scout. NEVER let that first probe who comes to scout out of your sight. Also, tell-tale signs include an extremely early forge, etc.

Tank medievacs.... well, you don't really need to counter this beforehand. 1. Get your workers out of there. 2. Kill the Medievac. 3. Kill the tank.
Medievac tank drops usually don't work to your favor, I've found. The medievac and tanks are too expensive for you to profit.

Yeah, so i'm playing terran. The thing is, his scouting probe tried to throw a pylon behind my mineral line, i took that shit down.

I was so busy walling off that i never realised the cannons were there! It was early game, so i guess i had 1 banshee and 12 marines / 4 marauders.

In the game where there were seige tanks, my main was a large area, and where he dropped off i couldnt see. If i put buildings there next time, i guess i will have clear view of that shit.

Theres a million scenarios like this, i'd love to play them out with a .netter, but since battle.net takes it straight in the anus, that isn't possible :/

**** you, Blizzard.

I'm terran, i send my scout out at 10 supply.

The thing is, with the cannon rush, he cam right in my main and chucked a pylon behond my mineral line. I pulled all my workers to focus it down and kill the probe.

He went for a gas steal too.

I send my scv out at about 10 supply, and we messed about for a bit but i didnt really see anything, just a bunch of mining...

Few matches away from 2000!

I must say I'm totally blown away on the level of Terran players I've been playing. These guys have frigging 1900-2100 points and the play ****ing terribly. CC's got huge amounts of energy, but hey, maybe he's scanning my zerglings and mutas.

On the positive side I've seen a ton of good protoss players, which reminds me, that I need to find a protoss practice partner!

Wow all these tactics conversations are making me more and more never want to play RTSs online. Oh you should have X up in Y amount of time and he ASFASFs early and to counter that you must 1/2/1 with the SGAJINAJSGE and then aaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!

You'd be a cheesy 6 pool zerg.
