StarCraft II

I would buy it but.. No chat rooms? No custom games? No cross region (realm) play? F**k you Activison.

Oh gosh, I love bandwagons! Hold on, I want on.

1.) No Chat Rooms - You are making a 'boycot' on a game that you don't even follow the news on? Son, I am disappoint. I'm not going to babysit you, look around, they have so much talk on the whole chat room thing it's insane. Oh, and make sure it's NEW news, not 2-3 months old. Let me just say that they plan on including chat channels somehow.

2.) No Custom Games - ............not even touching that, as it's the most retarded reason ever, and is 100% false.

3.) No Cross Reagon - OK, I kind of understand that, but I direct you to #1 where it's been discussed how it will come around *People think it will cost $5ish bucks to get to another region....yay Activision!

Yeah, I was confused by #2.

But what do you mean in #3? An extra 5 bucks to play in other regions?

I still need to pre-order. Hopefully release day arrival on Amazon is accurate.

Somebody give this man a Blizzard Defence Force badge.

Wow what a cheesy trailer.

Probably going to have to see what ridiculous ****ing price it starts at retail, here. I'm assuming $110.

You watch the trailer and think "cheesy" and I watch it and massive chills run down my spine comparable to first walking out of the train station into the first big plaza in City 17 during my first HL2 playthrough. I've been waiting for them to continue the story since I was 11 though.

Also, Pitz isn't remotely a Blizz fanboy or being unreasonable. He and I have bitched about the retardedness of Bnet 2.0 many a time. He's just sick of people crying about it like the vaguely silly design flaws in the online interface is going to ruin their experience of the game itself. I have the same impulse to defend it against all the bandwagon crybabies just because I'm sick of hearing about it too, even though I really disapprove of Blizz's actions. Boycotting SC2 over Bnet 2.0 is equally if not more retarded than that whole boycott L4D2 business.

I've seen a few TV spots for it here in the US too.

I would perhaps be able to buy it if I get that subscription option they offered, although that would force me to pick a latin american version of SC2, and I truly don't want that.

I don't know what to do, in short. There's the possibility right there, it's cheaper, I have money for it, I would happily pick it up and buy the full game later (because I'm a SC fanboy, yes of course), but then I'd probably be forced to choose a shitty version translated to portuguese or perhaps even dubbed, along with being unable to play with hl2.net!

I'm really desperate for a solution.

I'm going to Switzerland for two weeks on Sunday, so I'll pick this up some time after I get back.

So okay, they might be adding shit back in that was already in Starcraft 1. Cool. Let me ask you this, though: what have they added that wasn't already in b.net? In other words, why is it "b.net 2.0"?

Facebook integration doesn't count, cause **** that shit.

Sure I downright cringe at some of the dialog choices, but I feel like the campy'ness is sort of a nod to the fans and not representative of the actual narrative that we'll see in the full game.

Also, I got a huge boner from the trailer. The nostalgia goggles are thick with this one. Can't. stop. watching.

People get pissed about the weakest things when it comes to big name games. If the ****ing background of the menu is the wrong color or the font is too big/small/shiny/whatever it's like someone is literally raping them and their entire family. Out comes the "OMFG BOYCOTT" people and the "I WILL NEVER BUY THIS GAME" people... then release day half of them are the first in the store picking it up. Then a week alter the rest show up after they realize their bandwagon is parked in front of the game developer dry humping the walls hoping they will deliver forgiveness.

It's happened before and it will happen forever as long as highly anticipated games don't live up to every expectation of every person ever.

Or they rape the delivery guy in excitement when he drops off the package.

Its like the iPh...*cough*...

All these little nit-picks aside, we KNOW this will easily break a few records for games sales, even if it is just in the RTS genre.

Blizzard specialise in cringeworthy camp dialogue.

:O

Does America have frickn airplanes with that on it?

Probably not, we only have them because we're so frigging awesome. :p

Here comes Starbob again, proving once more that it is possible to overreact to an overreaction, even if said first reaction never took place.

Please tell me how this is representative of any post in this thread. I'm not hearing "I'm boycotting" so much as "I'm reconsidering my purchase." There's a difference. In my case, I was never going to buy it one way or the other, I'm just curious to hear how this whole thing is turning out since I happen to be a fan of Blizzard's other games and this might have an effect on those down the road. If I'm wrong and b.net 2.0 actually is an improvement, I'd be happy to be called on it.

But please, continue, don't let me interrupt your tirade against, um... no one.

I'm not a SC fan anyway and I probably won't buy it. I was curious untill I read those features its lacking, but I decided against it. If the original version of bnet had those, lets face it, basic functions. Then as Bad^Hat say's.. why is it 2.0? If their going add those features in later then I MAY pick it up (cheaper) if I like it and they release a SP demo.

So, I've found out that I can play on US East with the Open Beta.

Does that mean I can play with you guys during the Open Beta? If anyone wants to play with a Korean noob, that is.

Ive been hearing rumours floating around that they will be adding LAN support in either the Zerg or Protoss versions.

If thats true, I guess we can expect integrated LAN in 2012?

Lets just hope they dont pull a Valve stunt and release the versions so far apart that you stop caring and just get angry at the delays. I think Ive seriously lost almost all interest in EP3 now. Its getting ridiculous.

A Korean newb can probably take on three US pros and win though.

Heh, I wish.

I'm still having trouble getting used to all the new things. Like the lack of spider mines, for example. I used to spam spider mines everywhere in SC1, and now I got nothing.

And that is why I hate RTSes, most of them boil down to rock-papper-scissor with you spamming whatever units are the best against the units your opponents are spamming.

I am kinda fascinated by the single-player of Starcraft though, read excerpts from some Starcraft novels which were pretty decent.

Where in my post did I reference anyone in this thread? This has been going around the internet since people first stepped in to beta and found out it wasn't exactly Starcraft 1 with updated graphics. I didn't know that every post in a thread had to be a direct reference to another post as opposed to a reference to the subject matter... I'm sorry. I suppose being annoyed by people who overreact and then stating such could be considered an overreaction in some special way.

Heh, sorry, I foolishly assumed you were staying on topic. ;)

Might have been helpful if you'd made any indication you were talking about people or attitudes outside of this discussion, but I retract that overreacting thing since honestly, as a general sentiment I can actually get behind your post. People do tend to expect the earth from games, moreso if they're a fan of the franchise/developer since they feel entitled somehow, that they have a stake in the series' success or failure. And, in small part, there's some truth to that, but there's a difference between criticizing something for it's faults and condemning it for not meeting your lofty expectations. Oh well, fanboys will be fanboys (or uhh... whatever the opposite of fanboy is).

Anyway, like you said this doesn't really relate to this thread, so now I'm the one going off-topic.

LAST MINUTE RERAIL.

ZERG RUSH LOL

And so on.

We got the Collector's Guide in at work today, no pics as of yet because with it being a Friday night I barely get any work done as is

Swapped my order over to in-store Best Buy order, I'll just have to nab a bus. At least this means I'll probably get my CE the day of :). No midnight opening but I hate those anyways.

To be honest there isn't really a problem with Battle.net 2.0. In fact the match making system is the best I've ever seen. The achievement addition is a nice touch and they feel like true accomplishments. The statistic system to analyse your ladder games etc is also great. And its all in game. Huge improvement over BNet 1 its great.

Chat rooms would be a nice addition to be able to shoot the shit with random people etc... but honestly tell me at least 1 game changing reasons why you need a chat room?

You know why chat rooms became such a controversy because clans and private leagues (like Team liquid) wanted to have a channel to call their own. This is the only kind of people it affects. Everyone else who doesn't really care about such things is completely unaffected. People who did not play the beta and did not experience BNet 2.0 jumped on the bandwagon and start spouting garbage they know little about.

The only reason I can think of for some average player to want chat rooms is to find random people to have private matches with. But honestly the inbuilt match making system for ladder and even custom games is good enough.

The game is amazing... I feel like I can actually be competitive here and have lots of fun doing it. No other strategy game even starcraft 1 (which i sucked at) give me this feeling of satisfaction. It almost feels like i'm playing an advanced game of chess. I feel like i'm going through withdrawal not being able to play the beta... (playing alien swarm instead kinda helps).

Here's a couple of problems Battlenet 2.0 has: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-r_uCaFxg8

^ Video's old, Pitz addressed a few of those things earlier.

So what's the deal with custom games then? Is it possible to set up private matches? I can't really find a more recent "state of" or something...

Got myself a Starcraft II poster, but didn't buy the Collectors Edition Guide. I don't know if it will be worth it or not. But I did flip through the Singleplayer Guide

Why do I have to be in Boston for this. GODDAMN I CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK TO FLORIDA AND PLAY THIS SHIT.

I've seen this video several times before. It doesn't conflict with anything I said.. maybe even supports it? He even says that for causal players its just fine.

Let me quote my self and change a bracket fragment.
