he comes back form hols and no one is around:) will show him what he can loose
Ennui should make a new forum, and everyone in off-topic should leave and go there :)

the spore fansite idea is by no means dead, lets put it that way. but this thread is about reviving Halflife2.net, not making a mass exodus to somewhere else.

al there is a is a Community forum, a community of what,

people talking and sharing poitless stuff! there is no defintion!!

definition is ungainable until hl3 come sout and only in the case of what tde said in another thread, wether or not it will be impressive or not.

It's about damn time a thread like this is posted.

I voted that it isn't so bad, but after reading through replies I see that it is much worse than I thought.

Back in the days, before I knew people on the forum, things were pretty great. As time went by I got to know who is who, who were the funny people, the cool people, the harsh moderators and the soft moderators. As time went by it evolved into something much greater. Or rather, I came to discover how much deeper the forum was. I discovered that it wasn't all roses and song, but there was hate. This was around the time when I was all forum-police, and I was stupidly egotistical about my art. --- Well I don't want to dwell on about myself... I don't know where I'm going with that. But as of right now I consider my self a good member of the community AND in fairly good standings with most people. I've improved very much since then. I'm also learning to not take it so seriously.. It's just the internet. If people want to hate me, so be it. I am thankful for those who like me, or atleast can understand my side of the biscuit.

I am not going to blame Hetairia on anything. A secret (or atleast private) community of closest friends is inevitable. It would be ignorant to say it shouldn't exist. That's all I have to say about that.

As for improvement... I agree with Ennui. We need something to DO. A project. A community project that is. Whether it be a mod, a machinima, some type of contest, et cetera.

I find the issue with Munro to be completely irrelevant to our biggest problems here. Sure he could be more supportive and involved, but that is of no concern or involvment to what we need to do to improve.

We must start plans for the community immediately. Perhaps everyone gathering on IRC as well as a thread to gather ideas would work well.

I certainly vote for a Day of Defeat: Source machinima. Hell, I'm tempted to do it anyway.

that woudl be amazing,

could do any number of over exagetrated war film parrodies:p

<3 Vegeta
And id be more than willing to help out in any way I could with machinima ^_^
Plus the people on this site are creative/weird as hell, so you know you'd have great ideas :)

I think the answer to the question of whiether the Combine controlled Xen or not drove it home. This site is not what it was.
Edit: I think Aftermath will bring us back up temporarily but HL2 Xbox will drag in piles of idiots going OMGWTFBBQ1111 whos teh brefcas man11111, all speaking as if we were txtn.

I say reboot

start over again, sometimes thats the only way to get something fixed, and I personally think its the most effective way on this case

since the beginning munro made all the desisions, it was like a prison. moderators who think they are god all chosen by the admin, in this case munro. Someone needs to give munro boy a good rub in his face an say it aint working! and that he needs to start fresh emediatly if he wants to keep his website revenue he is earning on the ads, must be atleast 100 bucks a month

set up a massive revote, remove all special priveliges of the community members and let everybody mention a name they think would be a good moderator (valid reason must be added), and take the top of the names list with the most valid votes (those who provided a good reason) and make them mod. if they don't want to the one on the reject list gets its place untill we have enough mods.

but to be honest, no more hl2, but make it a valve fansite.

A Valve fansite... hmmm...

That could be very interesting indeed. It wouldn't change much but we could have a lot more opportunities for content and whatnot.

I'm terribly afraid Munro's going to shut all this down as soon as he sees this thread, close the thread and say "We're not doing anything."

It's still fine in my opinion, better than so many other boards - but not what it was.

I think it's just the dissapearance of a lot of old members and (more importantly) the general attitude of some members just bring the whole place down.

"You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! God damn you all to Hell!"

"You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! God damn you all to Hell!"

That's what she said.

edit: actually, that's what I said when I saw this old dead thread involving Brian Damage. ;(

thats not a bad idea actually, the kind of big shakeup i think could fix things

im sure someone will turn up and complain that communism never worked tho heh

What are people's thoughts on these things:

1) Changing from a Half-Life 2 fansite to a Valve Software fansite. Retain the name, maybe, or get a new one (of course Halflife2.net would still direct to it)?

2) a DOD:S Machinima - do you like the idea, and would you want to help / what would you do to help?

3) Voting on moderators, super moderators, IRC operators, and admins? Or perhaps, vote on moderators, then in a month or two vote on who should go on to be a super moderator or admin?

I was saying something similar to Samon the other day, about the old members, It does feel really depressing.

Grrr, why did they have to go away?!?

1. ****ing brilliant idea, I love it.

2. I personally wouldn't be interested in a DOD:S movie, I was interested in the BF2 idea you had ages a go.

3. Mabye, but do you think it should be a vote between a select group, like some older members (How are the newbs gonna know all the dirty secrets of the people they're voting for?)

Not going to happen. Munro will only have the people that he trusts, not the people voted by the public, especially when it comes to super moderators/admins. Also, IRC has nothing to do with the site - Munro is only one of 4 channel masters, and Quakenet themselves own the channel. Example - Chris_D isn't an op in #halflife2, because the Quakenet opers don't trust him.

Year Zero. Start again. BURN IT DOWN. BURN IT ALL DOWN.

Actually I don't know if that would work or not but it's such a tempting idea... :D

All good ideas, but 1 and 3 would just never happen...

It's annoying the site is held back by Munro.

Could probably be a good idea if it wants to keep going

I'd watch it

Could be interesting even as just an experiment, to see who the members would choose and if they were the same choices as the current crop of mods.

BURN IT ALL DOWN

Me and Edcrab could write the script. :O

Can we all get on #halflife2 or what? I'm dying to have an easier and quicker way of talking about things.

Don't discourage :( :( :(

It took me 2 minutes!!

In the time i was banned this place became 1/2 as exciting, it was quite noticeable from being away.

Probably because you were gone.

Not sure if I'm joking or not.

There seems to be a weird paradox in this thread, in which the community appears to think that it runs this site. You don't. I don't. These 'suggestions' are all very nice (well, some of them) and everything, but they're never going to happen.

And voting in staff? Absurd idea - it would turn into some kind of popularity contest instead of choosing someone that's actually effective for the job.

HalfLife2.net used be a decent place, but that was a long time ago.

The entire auth system for the IRC channel is something that I can't be arsed to deal with. That's why I'm only in there every once in a full blue moon.

1. To me this is a very promising idea, it would bring the community back to something other than Half-Life 2, expand it to all Valve products, and maybe even make it broader, base it on Steam instead, will allow more discussion on things like Sin Episodes and Rag Doll Kung Fu

2. If above doesn't occur this would be good kick up the back side of the community to work together for a common cause. The finished result(s) could then be submitted to a respected magazine like PC Gamer UK who could then spread our,m the communties creation around.

3. Like the idea in principle, but could end up just being an opinion poll bascially, though only having votes with a good reason counted could make it viable.

Why the hell can't they happen? Because Munro is too damn lazy to do any of them? He's not done much of anything for the site - sure, minor stuff - in a long long time. The only reason he still runs it is because he owns the domain name. I'd hope he'd be gracious enough to allow the community to at least have a say in what happens to the site, as it kind of wouldn't exist without us.
