An Australian Catholic school is at the centre of an unholy row over claims it refused entry to a five-year-old boy whose surname is Hell.

Alex Hell said St Peter the Apostle School, Melbourne, had welcomed his son Max when enrolled under his mother's maiden name, Wembridge.

But they baulked when the family had a change of heart over the surname.

School officials say Max now has a place, but Mr Hell claims they changed their minds because of media attention.

He said he would not now be taking up the school's offer.

Mr Hell, how awesome is that? Stern Hell ..oohh I like it. But these people are clearly retarded ..did they think it was a bad omen? :E

The decision won the support of the school's head teacher and parish priest, he said.

wow, teacher priest and now an entire parish of retards ..

Mr Hell claims the priest refused to accept his son as Hell, and was told by the school's head he had "made a rod for your son's back".

that alone would have sent Stern into a flurry of kicks to the midsection followed by punches to the back of the head "rod? I'll show you a rod ..err, shut up <kick>"

What the hell?! :cheese: pun intended

Mr Hell, how awesome is that?

Yeah coolest name ever, LOL.

Wait... WHAT!? Rod as in to beat the child with it? :flame::devil: Me shoots EYE BEAMS!!111

Yeah, it wouldn't be strange for a Catholic school to reject someone named Max Hell or anything.

Aww, hell no.

that couldnt happen in canada as the separate school board operates at least in part with tax dollars so they cant discriminate due to name ..but this was sort of odd ..I mean catholics are pretty open (relatively so in comparison to other christian groups) I went to a catholic school ..one of my classmates was jewish (we have a good hockey/football team)

I wonder what they will do once kids that were born on 060606 start signing up.

Idiots.

They predicted that the priests/teachers would be too "interested" in him.

Hint: Catholicism

Australia's pretty conservative compared to Canada. Is the school private or public?

both ..there's a separate school board for catholics (only up to high school) and subsidizing for other religious institutions. Of course there's also private and public schools. Private schooling still has to adhere to each province's ciriculum guidelines

I should call myself Jesus and apply. "He's back, he's back, I told y'all he'd be back!"

Can they do this? If they are receiving money from Uncle Sam for secular things aka textbooks and such couldn't they be in big trouble acting this way?

Religious schools are bullshit anyway.

LOL

But in all seriousness, Hell could mean anything in another language. In Germany for instance, Hell means "light" or "bright". To assume it means the place "hell" is complete ignorance on the Catholic school's part.

I think I'm gonna change my surname to "Awesome"

Aaron Ahkbar. It has a ring to it...

What a load of bollocks. I don't have a problem with religous schools - it keeps all the idiots away from public schools.

Religious and school is a funny combination of words.

School and prayer are a funny combo too, if by funny you meant sickening.

I think this is appropriate ...

"A prayer in a public school? God has no place within these walls, just like facts don't have a place within an organized religion. " - Supernintendo Chalmers

I remember that episode. Ned takes over the school and it faqlls into anarchy cause he doesn't do anything.

ya he says over the loud speaker:

Ned Flanders: Let's thank the Lord for another beautiful day.

Superintendent Chalmers: "Thank the Lord"? That sounded like a prayer. A prayer in a public school. God has no place within these walls, just like facts don't have a place within an organized religion.
