Stuff I only noticed the 2nd time around

thats the best part abt alyx. she looks like an asian, african, american mix. so that the whole world can well..enjoy her face? or accept it, you know what i mean..

Is it not triggered by picking up the knackered doll?

I think you might be confusing it with the gurgling sound the doll actually makes when you pick it up. As far as I know, the laughter is triggered simply by approaching the swing set.

OK, I just played through the playground segment again. It turns out that:
1. Approaching the playground areas on either side of the path leading to the apartments will trigger the faint sound of children playing. The player doesn't need to pick up the doll to hear it.
2. It is possible to pass through the area without hearing the sounds simply by walking straight up the path.
3. The sounds of playing are mixed quite low on the soundtrack and so are very easy to miss if you're not listening for them.
4. No indication of the sound shows up in the closed captioning, but:
5. Picking up the doll will display the words "mama" in the captions.

Hmmm... Well did Gordon spend his whole life in BM? I would have thought that somewhere in his childhood his parents MIGHT have taken him to a public park to play in the playground, but that's just me. :/

NO Gordon did NOT spend his entire life there. He was hired thanks to Kleiner. But he had been there for quite some time when the game started.

Something I noticed in HL1 a while back, after I palyed hl2, and went back to hl1 to play, I noticed that in "Forget about freeman" where the soldier tells everyone that they're pulling out, and to forget about freeman, after he goes off the line you can hear something that sounds like a combine soldier's far away garbling. :|

i know it can't be a Combine Soldier, but maybe it was something else? I dunno. just thought I'd share that.

It's not possible...the combine soldiers you see in HL2 are assimilated humans.
The combine, at that specific time, had either not yet reached earth, or just had not turned anyone combine yet (assuming all the explosion and the stuff you hear in the background is actually the Seven Hour War taking place).

It's just radio static. Seven hour war came quite a bit after that. Why didn't Shepherd see any Combine things? He was the last man in Black Mesa so to speak, it's because the war came much later, long after the nuking.

Yeah, okay, I just wondered about that, cause I heard it and it reminded me of the combine radio static for some reason.

Also, I played through that part of hl2 with my speakers all the way up, and it did sound a bit like the children were scarred of something, till I shit my pants cause a train about 4 miles away blew it's horn and sounded like it was coming right for me... :D

dam, I was hoping there was. I guess the developers were not even thinking of the combine during that time in 1998

According to Laidlaw, they were thinking something beyond Nihilanth back in 98.

HL2 is a beautiful game and I really look forward to play it again when I get my new computer. I've always taken a good look around me when playing single player so it's surprising to see so many hidden stuff that I never discovered. Nice thread :)

Back then Valve was still enjoying all the glory and fame they made with HL 1, so they didn't have time to think beyond the timeline.

And yes, HL2 is full of surprises. I bet we haven't still found most of them though. Valve might say "No, there are no more" but you know, how some of the producers might add something without revealing it, so alot of things may still be hidden from us AND even Valve.

back on topic, was playing some hl2 today and noticed that in the scene near the end where the rebels tear down the breencast screen outside the station, there are a couple of guys on top of a nearby building on one of those combine sniper-point things, and when the screen comes down one of them falls down but hangs on to one of the wires then pulls himself back up. never noticed that before!

Chill rabarber! We call it Hl 1 now since HL2 is available.

And thats what i meant...they didn't think of the combine then (or HL2).

I'll have to check that out.

The seat he hovers with, in the place of legs. Don't forget those wrist bands he's got, they seem to be the same material. (Could it be the Combine metal)?

/shrugs.

Could be retconned as such, I suppose.

But I think the source of the Nihilanth's scars etc. have been a source of fan speculation since before the Combine had a name.

Valve either wanted nihi to look cool and gave him the spiked metal floaty-thing (seat).
And the vorts had the collars. OR Valve already had plans for the Combine in the makeing of HL and brought it all together.

Ah! I just happened to have a save file near the end of Ravenholm, so I pulled it up right quick. :)

It's interesting because when you go into the little room, Leon's voice becomes muffled and sounds kinda far away. Meanwhile, you see Alyx talking normally, but her voice still sounds like it's coming over a radio. :p

How do you get to the room? I've noclippd it but I don't know how to get there.

Don't get in there, it's a trap!

Note: It must be at somewhere away from the main brushes...got to love Valve's sound technology.

That room is actually only for the sound, Alyx on the screen is a texture.

I also noticed that during "Follow Freeman!" one of the citzens shouts "This is bullsh*t!"

F*ck off if you don't wanna stay with me, then!

Ha, one of them said that before for me too.

In fact i was directing one of the citizens to an area using C in Follow Freeman in an area full of manhacks. Then, he said 'This is bullshit' I felt like telling him to shut up and move. Then, the manhacks killed him.

Man, this thread is causing me to replay HL2 again, see if I can see all this stuff. Probably a good thing anyway though in preparation for Ep2.

Nice.

I'm currently drafting a document called "Things to Do in Half-Life 2" that's essentially a summary of stuff mentioned in this thread with some additional material thrown in. About 3/4 done now. I'll post it when it's finished.

"Find all Gman sightings" won't be there right? I mean they've all been found...right?...have they?

1.How's about find ALL easter eggs (obvious).-.-

2.Find all special(?) dialogues (rebels maybe?) or messages (between combine), like the one in NP.

3.Explore all "behind the scenes" areas with "noclip".

Ya know!

Ta-daa...a

Let me know when you finish with it. I might need it for my 4-years old Half-Life series article.

1. Nope, already covered on other sites.

2. No, Wikiquote has it covered: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Half-Life_2#Resistance_Soldiers

3. Hmmm, I might make some footnotes about things that can be found by no clipping (the citizen siloutetted in the distant window of the FF title screen, or the fate of Father Grigory), but all that stuff is heresay to me, since I have never used noclip.
