am i technically breaking the law by browsing his files?

Unless you live in a backwater country, yes, you are breaking the law. And care to explain why you didn't look at the images before going apeshit? Maybe you are mistaken. And if you are going to bust people for having illegal files on their system, you should probably start with your friends - I'm sure they've got some MP3s, DVD rips or such on their computers.

hey, look, if his wifi network isn't encrypted, and he shared his root C on the network, then it's perfectly legal to do whatever you want : it's his fault he shared root C anyways...

Let's examine this logic. If your bicycle isn't locked, I can steal it (your fault for not locking it). If the door to your house isn't locked, I can go in and do whatever I want (you should have locked the door). If a woman is walking alone at night, wearing sexy clothes, I can rape her (her fault for walking alone in sexy clothing, I couldn't help myself). And so on. Do we see a pattern here?

By the way, I have wireless access, too, so I don't kindly to idiots like poseyjmac wandering into people's private networks as if they owned the place.

Cybernoid, there's a fine line between exploiting children in kiddie porn and having those pictures/videos/whateverver else and downloading warez and keeping it. Which one deserves to be "busted?"

Yeah well secure your computer you dumbass. And if it weren't for curious guys like Poseyj a lot of shit would have gone undiscovered.

And Poseyj get back to us we're all waiting to see what happens, good luck :)

Continuing with this logic, I could come over there and beat you to death. Why? Well, you should have been more stronger. Since you weren't, I had the moral right to beat you up.

Such as the Half-Life 2 source code?

Legally- both
Morally- Kiddie porn and or abusing children easy classifies as one of the top five things people deserve to die for. downloading music/videos/games and sharing them classifies somewhere in the top five thousand.

found pics that appear to have underage content. now we want to bust this guy

we are also pretty sure we know where the condo is. tonight a guy walked out of his condo and looked around, was looking in our direction for a while, we tried to act cool. we drove off and came back later. he looked like one of the people from one of the pictures, but we aren't 100% sure.

so what to do now? payphone the authorities, tell them where to go with a laptop and drive off?

God you're a troll, you're whining about people "invading" people's private networks well secure your shit we don't live in LALA land, with pink ****ing fluffy bunnies.

If your bicycle isn't locked, I can steal it

I actually have to explain this shit to you... not locking your bicycle doesn't give someone the right to steal it but that someone will if he wants to. Why do you think the police advise people not to parade their mobile phones everywhere? Use some common sense and stop trolling.

You do have some problems with logical reasoning. If we accept that unsecured (which is a loose concept) computer networks can be accessed without permission, then we also accept that unsecure houses can be entered without permission. This logic can be extended to just about anything. And finally, not everyone is a computer wizard like you.

not locking your bicycle doesn't give someone the right to steal it but that someone will if he wants to.

So why is it okay to enter someone's network if it isn't "locked"?

Why do you think the police advise people not to parade their mobile phones everywhere?

Because they might get stolen. But it's still not legal to steal a mobile phone.

Use some common sense and stop trolling.

Boohoo, Para is being bullied by a troll. ;(

I was talking on a moral stand point. To compare piracy to child porn is ridiculous.

It's like saying..

"Oh. You saw x murder y? Big deal, you shouldn't have been snooping around anyway. How many friends do you know that should be "busted" for having illegal MP3s, or ripped movies!?"

I agree 100%.

Glad we're in agreeance

Now, if Cybernoid would realize how stupid a statement he made..

You are you 100% the people on the pics are under age?
I know if you go on the internet and go 2 a legit pron site and they have a section there with school girls, although it says school girls all the girls are over 18 and and just dressed 2 look younger.( And no im not a perv, I was gonig 2 start my own pron site last year but didnt).

So make sure they are under 16, you dont want 2 f**k this guys life up for just looking at pron.

Shuzer said:

What's stupid about it? Legally, there's no difference between having kiddie porn and illegal mp3s on your system (except kiddie porn gives you a more severe punishment).

Jeez you're slow. No one ever said it's okay or legal, get that through your thick skull. If you put your car unlocked with the keys in it and it gets stolen you can't act surprised it will be your own god damn fault. DO... YOU... UNDERSTAND?

He didn't say it was okay, but it's something you should accept might happen if you leave your bike unlocked.

If you are certain that it was underage content, you need to call the police. You need to tell them the truth. They will not get you in trouble, why would they spend the time prosecuting somebody who was mischevious when you took a dangerous man off the streets? They will thank-you not arrest you.

You condone it. Your attitude is that if you don't lock your house, car or whatever, anyone can enter it, and it's your own fault, you're stupid etc. etc. ad infinitum.

Yeah, watching porn is really dangerous.

does anyone have links to the specific laws regarding legality of using public wireless networks?

No I don't condone it that's what you don't understand. And you probably never will.

Sorry Poseyj, only way to be sure would be to contact an attorney.

I am willing to bet that there is a extremely high correlation that people who watch kiddy porn will commit sex crimes against kids. If you can take him off the streets before he does such an act, the better off society will be.

[Edit]: Try searching at this site. I tried but it is hard to look for a specific thing. You may have better luck.

Doesn't seem logical. The same should apply to people who watch normal (well, "normal")porn , but it probably doesn't.

So the guy gets some pictures of his family and kids and names them "littlebeauty1", "wifenaked", "child01", "baby00" and you suspect that he's a perverted child abuser and should be banned to underlying prison of the bad people? Did you really get any pictures and how you would describe them?

Wow, one of the most interesting topics in the off-topic place I have read in a long time... In my opinion, I think you should go to the cops... tell em the truth, and see that what needs to get done, gets done. It's a morality thing really!

Bust his ass. Now. If you haven't done it already, you should do it right here and right now or I'll come over to you and do it myself.

And tell the truth.

Again, where is the evidence? "Suspecting" that some files may be kiddie porn based on their names is rather vague. Well, the only way to know for sure is to open them. But... then you'd be guilty of doing the exact same thing! You're ****ed either way if you asked me.

Burn his house down only to discover he was the one responsible for those missing kids of HL2.

jesus christ cybernoid, stop playing devil's advocate. do you have your own kiddie porn collection or something?

jmac found a kiddie porn collection on a guys PC. a guys with a wife and kids. and you're talking about mp3s and crap like this. are you compeltely oblivious to the difference? Killing a mugger who is attacking me and shooting the president is not the same thing, quit making it out to be such.

I say bust the guy jmac, and don't lie about it.

posey, I posted links to FBI and government websites for reporting child pornography a while back... use them!

You know what? I seriously think he does.

This is really getting to a flame war, they always do :/

Yes. Guys, please lets not turn this into a debate thread. That's not the intention of the thread. Let's just help the original poster out.

I confess. I have gigabytes of kiddie porn. I got them from CB | Para's system when he accidentally shut down his firewall. So it's all right.

Allow me to repeat that...

Clearly it is not cybernoid that is trolling but ironicly para is :\. Cybernoid is right you are breaking the computer misuse act, you break it even by looking at someone else's screen when they are away from it. Dont tell them the truth, just tell them that you strongly suspect them or something or perhaps just leave it maybe. Check out the photos and see exactly how bad they are first. But id recommend leaving it.
You go and see the police, your busted.

Well look at it this way...What if he is probally abusing his kids?I mean wouldn't you risk getting put in jail to bust this guy?I would and if I got put in jail for it so be it...because in the end your putting an evil person away.So think about those kids...and then decide what to do.
