We have heard that it looks like the guy has underage porn on his computer and you are saying that we shouldnt do ANYTHING because we "could be wrong"

Well, if you can walk around in the guy's computer as you please, it shouldn't be difficult to confirm it 100% (unless, of course, it's so vague that it can't be confirmed).

PoseyJmac's intrusion into the network was out of curiosity, and brought this matter to light. The fact these files were found by an unauthorised intrusion into a network does not nullify the fact that this man needs to be caught and brought to justice.

It doesn't take an IQ over 50 to come to this conclusion.

The way a certain staff member acted in this situation has made me quite pissed at the way of moderation this forum and the channel is undergoing currently, which is normally not tolerable among the most forums I've been a member and moderator of. This could be compared to an amateur taking care of the button to an atomic bomb.

Sorry, but if I thought a guy had pedofillia on his computer I would report them even if it meant it might ruin his life.

but then i found filenames of kiddie porn. now i didnt look at the pictures, but the FILENAMES were a giveaway and were in a separate folder other than the 'family pics' folder

I say, u must confirm a sighting. So just because something is labeled a sexual innuendo doesnt mean thats what it is. So just choose one pic, look at it. See if its the real deal and then turn him in.
If you just say, O i think there might have been child porn on this guys comp. They will ask if u saw it for yourself and are a witness. If you can't confirm its the real deal then some joker could be put through a lot of shit because you thought he had child porn.

What we know so far:

PoseyJmac stumbled on an unprotected network (this is a criminal act)
He discovered some oddly-named files he believed to be child pornography
He later, on our advice, checked one of the files. The subjects appeared to be under the age of 18.
Possesion of child pornography is a crime, one of far greater magnitude than the crime of stumbling onto a network.

Draw your own conclusions, but in my humble opinion, he should report this as suspicious, and then leave the police to deal with it. Cybernoid is right, false accusations do ruin people's lives. Thats why it would be essential to tell the police that you believe him to be in possesion of the aformentioned illegal pornography, and leave it at that. Let them do the rest..

heres an update.

im just trying to go about this the right way, not trying to rush things for the guy's sake and for mine. ive been reading up on a bunch of laws and other material, and ill be trying to resolve this hopefully soon. since ive already gotten in the system, it wont hurt to do a little more homework before making any drastic decisions. but dont worry if there is something wrong here, ill report it. i just want to go about it carefully.
