Team Fortress 2 Trailer

I just thought you were pretty hostile towards Ennui (or whoever fixed it). You could have been polite about it instead of shouting at him in the first sentence.
If you wanna pay for my hosting I won't be so upset about any future bandwidth theft.

lol guys calm down he's justified in being annoyed, i fixed it here and on interlopers

i'd prefer it if you PM'd me these things though, Al3xand3r... that way I can be sure i'll do it

hopefully everyone downloaded the high-res version off of fileplanet its teh sex!
Sure is!

Game looks great. Dynamic soft-shadows, Self-Shadows, soft-particle fires, phong, better rendered water (Maybe even dynamic ripples)... Can't wait!

So you post a popular file and then complain that your bandwidth gets raped? Direct or indirect you're still getting hit. Short answer don't host if you can't handle it.

I'm extremely excited about TF2, but I'm pretty pissed we didnt get to see it in action here.

Dont be a dick - it's simple internet etiquette that you dont direct link - especially to hugely popular files.

The difference is that when people go to my site I get the benefit of page views. They don't just leech my files, they see the website and who knows, some may stick around after the file hype is gone. Get it? If not, don't talk about things you don't understand. What are you defending now anyway? Get back on topic or something. TF2 rules & all that.

Ennui, I don't know how things work here so it's why I posted in the forums. At the same time I changed it so that leeches for .zip files (i forgot to do that, had done it only for image files) didn't work so it was ok if you didn't change it as far as I'm concerned, I only said you should change it because it was leading to a different page that way.

Maybe delete all the posts related to this, they are detracting from the topic.

's all right, you're justified, i'm sorry for using it without permission. Now, enough discussion about that, it's resolved, so no more responses, people!

Lovely, this makes me want to buy Episode 2 ten times.

But then again, one time is probably enough.

Seriously your site has 181 members since Dec 2005...and you've personally made more posts than the combined posts of the next 9 highest posting members there. Hosting a trailer an hour or so before it goes fully global isn't going to boost your numbers.

You want to really attract attention to your site, land a big exclusive interview with someone that people are going to want to read about (like the digipen students who came up with the Portal game for example...I'd be interested in that).

Kadayi Polokov, members don't show the activity on the site. I check Mod HQ for all the HL2 mod news daily, but I'm not a member.

Anyway Al3xand3r, keep up the good work.

I have entered this thread to say that dekstar made one rather good pun amidsts his otherwise ineffectual barrage.

Ifort2. Heheheh.

This looks rather nice, although no gameplay shown - never that mch of a fan of TFC but it seems that might change. :E

Kadayi Polokov, members don't show the activity on the site.

The Valve EA announcement garnered all of 7 comments at his site. That's not exactly indicative of a bubbling hub of activity. Membership might jump up a notch or two if people couldn't post without actually registering.

How many people have to tell you to shut up about this subject before you actually do it? Even the people you tried to "defend" are against you so you might as well do that. My website isn't about the community aspect, it's about informing people.

The forums were introduced to have a better CMS, not because I wanted to promote that aspect of the website. I've had my fair share of big interviews in the past, it's a given that I won't stop doing that. Hell, at one point there was a thread here that had some thousands views all based on a quote from one of my interviews.

My page views have been increasing steadily since I started it so I don't need your advice as I'm doing good by myself (literally), thank you very much. Maybe you too can go do something useful now instead of try to bash others work, especially when you don't know shit about how it's done.

How do you go from telling me off because of "yelling" to telling me how to run a website or how unpopular my website is anyway? What's your point?

And no, my website isn't on the traffic level of HalfLife2.net or HLFallout or PHL but it's not bad at all for a little personal 1 man project. You either like it or you don't, but the fact you don't like it (or don't like me, or don't like being told how ignorant you are) doesn't mean you actually know what's going on with it.

Mod HQ ROCKS!

...anyway, on the subject of TF2, looks pretty damn smooth in action.

Very stylised but not degenerated to the state of a cartoon reject: can't wait to see some gameplay shots...

Al3xand3r, I'm not "against" Kadayi, I'd just rather he stopped :p

I think Mod-HQ is a good project for a one man job, though I don't really like the layout. I also think that this is a Team Fortress 2 thread and that's what should be discussed, so if you please...

You said what I did was justified when he said it's not so. I'd say that's against. Anyway, told ya it's better to just delete the off topic stuff. Since his completely off topic negative and ignorant comments about my website remain here I decided to atleast add one reply. If he says anything more I won't bother again but, yeah, you should just delete everything unrelated to TF2 imo. Over & out.

Actually I didn't say anything about you not being justified in complaining about the direct link (and yes it is bad form). I merely pointed out the sheer absurdity of hosting a file you claim you can't afford the bandwidth on. Direct link or referral it is still going to cost you bandwidth regardless.

How about some on topic discussion!

Valve's Robin Walker (of oldschool Team Fortress Software) said this in an email with the Shacknews content guy:

Robin Walker said:
Actually, everything in that trailer is in-game. There's some extra screenspace effects on it (depth of field & motion blur), but apart from that it's all just recorded in the game. So yep, that's what the models look like, and that's what 2fort looks like now.

Robin.

When asked specifically about which animations are indeed from gameplay, here is Robin's reply. It seems that everything except the Spy animation is indeed actual gameplay footage.

Robin Walker said:
Almost all of the animations are game anims used while playing (scout run, hwguy firing, etc). The exception is the Spy. We don't have a disguise effect we're happy with yet, so we whipped up that animation to give new players an understanding of what the Spy class is about.

We still haven't decided how we'll use screenspace effects. It's more of a design issue than anything else.

Robin.

A gameplay video would be damn nice... This "teaser" was really no more informative than the image showing all the classes. Though, I will say I absolutely love the art direction of TF2.

Given the ETA on EP2 is Christmas I think Valve will stretch out the anticipation factor quite a bit over the coming months.

Actually, maybe you should re read the discussion because you did say he was too rude, but Ennui then said it was justified. Also, get real, the bandwidth is there to benefit his website and when people go to it to download a file that is the benefit. It isn't there to benefit other websites that direct link to the files. How hard is that to get?

How come you took out the pic with Gabe and the hwgy? :( *Oops sorry the link went down.

Did you really read what I wrote? Clearly not. Stick to lurking. :dozey:

Okay, this is kind of bothering me: I recognize that the animations were clearly rigged specifically for this video, and that it was almost certainly taken on a bleeding-edge machine, but it looks too good from a technical standpoint. THat one shot where the scout is sprinting across the room looks like the kind of thing we'd expect from pixar, and the the shadows on the pyro at the very end seem like they're beyond the normal capabilities of the Source engine. Are they doctored, or is TF2 just technically spectacular?

The Source Engine was always designed to be modular. VALVe are slowly updating the entire engine to what would be expected of a brand new engine. It's not doctored, but you probably will need a nice rig to have self shadowing of that quality ingame, as is expected of any new engine with it in.

PIU(PickItUp) did the animations for Heavy and said they were ingame shots.

People are getting off the topic...

Anyway, When will we have the new Episode Two trailer???

Speaking of off topic this thread is about TF2, not Episode 2.

noob.
