The CoD:MW2 MEGA Thread

COD: best game this year...in fact i can't even remember playing Borderlands anymore

I don't know from all accounts the game basically sucks arse if you live outside the US.

Like I said in the review, I put over a dozen hours into the multiplayer side of the game, and did a lot of reading up on various forums. The general consensus is overwhelming - IWnet does not work for those in smaller regions.

And btw - I'm running on ADSL2+, annex M connection (2.5Mbit/sec upload speeds), with all relevant ports forwarded. Trust me, the fault is not with my PC or connection.

you think by Christmas the game will be patched and ready to play for most?? Also I have one word this coming week for XBL people....its gunna be one giant twisted lag****. you have the major update that adds facebook, twitter, zune, and last.fm and i think theres going to be shit servers. last year the entire month of December was garbage and i'm feeling it will be the same this year

Doubtful, but you can hope all you want. :)

So I managed to finally sink some hours into this with some friends of mine in the flat kitchen, hooked up to a shitty old TV but whatever, I wanted to play. I say some hours, I mean we started at 9pm and it's now half 6 in the morning. Damned good fun. Spec-ops, whilst often very simplistic and rinse-repeat copy paste level design (the suburbs suck, seriously. I hate US setting sun autumn slice of life.) it kept us coming back for more to try and open up more stages.

Had some 1v1's on verses just to see what the maps and weapons were like and all seems like good potential for some great online play which I cannot WAIT to sink my teeth into during the Christmas break at home. Lots of good variety in weapons, perks seem interesting, kill streaks are really quite exciting to get now and I generally all over like how many more options there are open to customize my player. Should be good.

Played the first mission of the campaign and it seemed pretty solid, though it's pretty obvious Infinity Ward are pretty big fans of Generation Kill, but then I guess that is based on the actual Iraq/Afghanistan war atmosphere so it's no biggie. Actually I ****ing love how much it reminds me of such a fantastic TV show. Will get more into the SP later this week maybe.

So far, pretty good.

I thought COD felt more like 24 or The Unit than anything else. so many twists and turns and games like Hydro Thunder, and also Michael Bay explosions :)

edit:
2 things they should add to the sequel:

1) full clan support (200+ members) with Real time matches where an entire clan playing at the same time on the same but different maps but fighting for multiple areas. think of Chromehounds but for a FPS/MMO. I think it would be a very fun time and each battle would feel like a small part of the war.

2) Korean War

that is all

This game is the video game equivalent of a Micheal Bay movie.

Poorly written dialogue and characters, convoluted storyline and plenty of epilepsy inducing explosions.

Don't waste your bandwidth on it, let alone pay money for this crap. This game is nothing but overhyped garbage. It's just a shinier and inferior version of the previous game. The Singleplayer portion is pathetically short and linear. You don't have control over half the game thanks to the scripted sequences that take over your character. It's just one big cluster**** with enemies spawning every 2 seconds. Yeah, some ****ing fun that is.

Save your money for upcoming and superior tactical shooters such as Battlefield Bad Company 2 or MAG.

That's cool, I just unlocked a thermal scope for my FAMAS. Makes people look like jizz stains.

I definately agree that the story is not as fleshed out as MW

They could of explain much more about the reasons why Cpt Price was in the Gulag in the first place; guessing from performing an operation against the installed government

or how suddenly is alive

I just got killed by my own carepackage, twice. In the same match, even. First time it landed on top of me, second time it spazzed out when I tried to open it.

There should be an achievement.

I got a kill with one of mine yesterday. The guy was just about to kill me when I was reloading too. loltastic :)

Sadly, I've been killed by a carepackage as well:(. It wasn't my own, however, I was getting ready to steal it from a teammate.

Finished the SP. Absolutely Uh-may-zing. Stayed up late to finish it, and then did a slow clap afterwards. Don't care about the haters.

P.S.: That museum at the end was weird and cool as hell.

Wow, I've played some shitty levels with shitty gameplay before, but ****... that first Favella mission takes the biscuit.

:|

My friends who play online are nonstop bitching about the major latency problems/disconnects they experience. Same deal, ADSL2+, great area location etc.

I really think there is some cause for complaint over the lack of dedicated servers because this isn't a few isolated incidents but basically anyone outside of the US/UK getting butt****ed.

Moderators don't troll, they "poke fun".

You really don't deserve that position anymore.

On topic, MW2 is, uh, a Michael Bay movie. I love the sequences (they are amazingly well done), but the overarching plot and story context of the missions is, uh, nonsensical at best.

I concur. The plot is pretty dumb, it skips all over the place and never spends any time developing any of the characters or plot points.

That being said, some parts are just so much fun to play through that I forgive the fact that the story is so dumb. The snow level surpassed my expectations, and while the other levels havent blown me away so far, they are varied enough that it keeps things interesting.

About half way through the singleplayer now... little put off to be honest, all I seem to be reacting too is stupid ****ing respawning enemies, how frustrating the blood all over my screen is when I get shot and how fast the plot is jumping from here to there. Seriously... I was pulled out of Afghanistan and put undercover right away? The ****? No wonder my cover was ****ing blow... I was a goddamn frontline grunt.

Some parts have been good; the snow mission, rooftops in Favella, quite enjoyed the majority of the Gulag, breaching into hostage situations, but nothing has really roped me in yet. I played so much in one go simply because I was defiant to get to something really good but it hasn't got even close yet.

All that said, I'm playing on a shitty old TV with the volume low. It's not perfect conditions to enjoy a game, I'll admit. I'll hold off any final comments until I give the game a proper go through when I'm at home on my good monitor with reasonable volume.

EDIT: Oh, but I will say this again for good measure - suburban America makes for shit level design. Seriously, I cannot stand that shit.

1) I rather enjoyed the first winter level. Starting out ice climbing was a rush. The more so because I grew up doing both rock & ice climbing. Great fun. I also replayed the Snow Mobile level a couple times because the last time I got to drive a snow mobile in-game was NOLF2.

2) I don't remember the missions name, but I really enjoyed playing the map where you fought in the slums, with enemies coming at you from all directions. Cool ending to that map too with the "capture". I had to replay that map several times. Of all combat scenarios, I enjoy urban combat the most. CQB or Heavy armor are my preferred forms of battle.

3) I fear I'll rot in hell, because I found the "airport" mission to be.... twisted fun. At first, I just followed, not firing a shot, but when I got capped, that was it. The gloves came off & I shot anything that moved. Then I got capped again.. and again... A couple times by my own team, oops..

4) I am currently fighting in my own back yard. "Red Dawn" anyone?

So far, I am enjoying the game overall. I have heard/read that the game offers some excellent story twists later on. Still waiting...

-MRG

Played it in one session, about 5-6 hours on Normal. I pretty much agree with MRG on 1 and 2, but MW2's singleplayer doesn't strike me as particularly great in any way over COD4... it's practically the same except there's no awesome sniper mission this time.

MP is fun but doesn't stick like DOD or CS. Still been playing it a lot though, it pretty much nuked Borderlands.

I thought the snow mission with soap was sorta like that sniper mission, just no chernobyly feeling.

funniest shit happened tonight, I was behind enemy lines, crackin skulls and stabbin people left and right. anyway i see some red smoke, no one around, i run up to it go prone next to it in near some weeds. and i look a foot to my right and the enemy who dropped it was trying to open it too so i kill him and take it. it was a payload and i got 3 kills with it. also i notice the more knife kills you get in the game, the more frustrated the enemy gets and they're even easier to kill afterwards. in just about every game tonight too, i hada positive kill to death ratio and it was a blast with the UMP and rapid fire

also you guys need to go online with a friend and do some Special Ops. theres a new Sniper level in there just like COD4 and with a friend its awesome!

The snowmobile was ****ing awesome yes. But so short.

I guess I need to get crackin on my Veteran playthrough to really comment though.

reeeeeeally wish my game didn't crash before the ending sequence...EVERY TIME.

can't even explain how aggravating it is, plus there is ZERO help from IW so i'm basically shit out of luck

I'm kinda upset cuz I'll want to play on Veteran mode to get the rest of the Achievements. theres some games I'll just play through once but this game I want to play through a second time

Did you try playing it on VETERAN..?:|

I'm on Veteran. I can't stand playing games on anything less these days. I was going to lower it after the 10th time I died, but I just pushed on and eventually made it through. Must of died at least 30 times overall.

Fokkin' hard.

I know that was my point, it's one of the worst level designs ever, like you yourself said.

I myself got enough of the Veteran difficulty and simply played it through on the easiest level, gonna play it through a second time on veteran for achievements, right now I'm having a blast in the co-op missions though, especially the ones where you act as a gunner in an AC-130 or a transport heli and your friend is down on the ground!
