Nah, just the music.

Awesome.

Am I to presume it doesn't stop playing when a cut-scene pops up, though? Or does it? That'd be even sweeter if it was smart like that.

From the games I've played, when something important comes up it usually stops.

I have returned from work, and I'm glad I can bring joy.

Much win.

I doubt I'll use it much, though. In fact, I'll probably only stick a CD on for when I just fire up GTA to do some rampages and shit, which won't be for a while methinks.

Yeah, but on a 100-point scale there's so much more room for distinction - ten times as much, mathematically. I've seen plenty of footage of the game and it is hardly perfect, if only due to technical glitches and a downright atrocious framerate in places. When you're rating something on a 100-point scale, you have room to be much more discriminating in the actual number score you give a game, and frankly the game is not flawless. Sure, it may be a 96, 97, 98 or even 99 if you really want to push it, whereas on a 10-point scale, those are all 10s.

Not really, because you can use fractional quantities as much as needed with each. I.E. 99.9/100 = 9.99/10

You can nitpick equally with each.

Not when sites like IGN use tenths of points. They give games anything from 0.0 to 10.0 which is identical to a 0-100 point scale.

Apparently they did a podcast explaining why they gave the game a 10. I heard their reasoning was the overwhelming pros of the game negate the very few flaws. I haven't read it myself. They also admit that even a 10.0 isn't "Perfect". If you look at their rating it says, "10" and underneath, "Masterful". That's a pretty good one-word description for the game so far if you ask me.

I kind of agree Sea. No magazine, website or any other publication should give out their max score. Doing such is claiming perfection. However, I can also understand their reasoning. To IGN, a 10 isn't perfect, but the overwhelming completeness, detail and pure atmosphere lends themselves to being as close to perfect as you can get.

I really think the only reason they gave IV a 10 is because they put themselves in a corner with San Andreas. If they thought that IV was better than SA, how could they give IV a 9.9 when SA got a 9.9 as well?

Uh, a 10-point scale with decimals is equivalent to a 100-point scale. Find me a journal that does a 100-point scale with decimals as well, and then we'll talk.

What was the argument then? I thought you believed IGN simply rounded their score up to 10.

Well if 10.0 isn't perfect, and the Nintendo team's reasoning for not giving games 10s is often that a game is not perfect (apparently the tiny flaws in games like Mario Galaxy are enough to drag them down more than a point or two), then it seems like they have some discrepancies in how their editors handle review scores. As a person who writes game reviews (for money, even!) I find it pretty much impossible to give a game a 10, even the absolute best of them, no matter how negligible their flaws are.

Each reviewer clearly has their own style of rating and some of those rules carry between the various editorial teams.

That being said, I think people put too much stock in the actual # given out by reviewers and focus too little on what they have to say about the product. If I were a gamer on the fence about GTA IV, looking at the comment, "This is the best game I've played in the last 10 years" (paraphrasing) is all I would need to know.

What? Thats what they're saying, a 100 point scale is the same as a 10 point with decimals. You would need to find a jounal that does a 100 point scale with decimals for it to be true that a 100 point scale is more precise than a 10 point.

Nobody answered my question. :(

Does it have dynamic time of day lighting?

Please don't take the royal piss and spam. I'm with you with getting a forum for a GTAIV forum put in place of bioshock, we are within touching distance of it, but I can't justify it if you guys are just going to spam it to death. Help yourself and throw me a ****ing bone!

Lets Just make the BIOSHOCK forum the GtaIV forum. Post a sticky that says its the new GTAIV forum. It doesn't matter the name; what matters is the threads. It'll be a temporary fix anyway.

EDIT: Ahhh not quite yet sunshine!

That's why most magazines have an 11 on their scale.
11 = perfect. In all ways.

Ive never seen Eurogamer, but I also have never seen any magazine or online review site that uses a whole number only 1-10 scale.

Then again, I also havent ever looked a at review in years, because they're worthless.

Whoa, WTF on gamefly it says GTA4 comes out on the 28th?

Many online retailers (at least ebgames that I know of), are going to ship it on the 28th, so that they have a guaranteed street date of the release date, which is the 29th.

Sweet, but is they want to it come on tuesday they should ship it on saturday. Because gamefly always take like 2 or 3 days never 1.

See, that's why you made the critical error of renting it from gamefly instead of buying it from a retailer.

I hope it works out for you though, I really do.

It wasn't really a mistake, but my only option. I make 20 dollars a year and couldn't buy it. I mean, i'll get the game but probably on wednesday, so thats why i'm not going to sleep on moday night so I can hibernate on tuesday to avoid spoilers.

While I feel comfortable declaring GTA4 a fun game before playing it, I must point out that Amish still manages to post while having access to the game. Curious, no?

Update on the music thing:

I ripped a CD to my buddy's 360 and GTA IV is actually smart enough to not have the radio play in the car while you have music playing from the 360 itself.

EDIT: lol, I just ricocheted off of two cars back to back breaking their windows in perfect time with cymbal crashes in Dani California. :p

My friend has his family in town and he's been spending time with them all weekend. I convinced him to let me borrow his 360. I take breaks, but since Thursday I've played GTA IV 15:32 and counting :D

What's to be curious about? Every time I get a super anticipated game, I'm constantly jumping back and forth between the game and posting on a forum or browsing forums.

It's hard for me to do anything else. I feel GTA IV though is going to be a game that I will CONSTANTLY be playing without many breaks.

If I was in the position Amish is in, where he has access to it and pretty much none of us do, I'd be in this thread posting what people had questions to.

I am curious though Amish, how did your friend get the game in North Dakota? He doesn't have a torrented image does he? D: Because that would be bad.

Is it weird that the first thing I said when I heard that is "gahhh shit in my mouth"???

He pirated it and has a pre-order for it just like me - but I'll be damned if I'm not going to take advantage of his thievery

Extremely :p

It was pretty stupid on Rockstar's part to release GTAIV on April 29th, International Dance Day. It's going to hurt sales seeing as everyone will be out dancing!

Sheesh, I know right?

I mean, I'm going to be too busy doing the Salsa to pick mine up until the 30th. :/

I'm actually the president of the International Dance Council.

You make me sad.

So if you had a pirated copy of GTA IV at your fingertips, with absolutely nothing to do over the entire weekend and knowing you've already paid off your copy for Tuesday, you wouldn't play it?

That's why I'm sad.

Oh, lol.

I thought you were stepping onto a soap-box for a second there.

EDIT: LOL

I'm in a park, a lone cop car is bearing down on my location (I'm on foot - I just punched a ped to get cops to come after me). It goes down a hill pretty fast and hits a tree. Both cops fly through their windshield, fly down a hill and die on impact. Free cop car :D
