Iso-Town! I feel like doing isometric stuff so I'm going to do this little project.

It's basically an incremental process of a town growing larger and larger, as I draw each step. This isn't just going to be me plopping a building in one by one, no, this will be as if you took a picture of a developing town every week or so. Everything is drawin in MS Paint, as usual :)

I will accept ideas! I may need them.

This will be an ongoing project. I have the first 4 steps done already. (Note: Images are scaled 2x)

it003dm.png

Part 1: A lonely house, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by barren grassland. It's inhabitant is Iso Ian. It's a very small house, with one bathroom. The driveway is stone pebbles. The road this tiny house sits on is poor, with cracks and one lane. Let's see how this place grows.

it012gi.png

Part 2: Oooh! Looks like our friend Ian is going to have a neighbor. Construction is just beginning. I see some pipes, mason blocks, and a porta potty. Looks interesting.

it022ug.png

Part 3: Construction continues. Looks like a couple holes are being dug. More of the grass is wearing out too. The result of hustle and bustle! Looks like the house perimeter is flagged on the ground there.

Meanwhile, Ian plants a tree in his backyard!

it030ih.png

Part 4: Looks like they put pipes in those holes. Plumbing is indeed essential. This is probably for the bathroom and the kitchen. And if you look close enough, I think Ian's tree is sprouting a few more leaves.

---

OK, I'm going to bed. My question to you is, what do you think? Do you like this? Kinda fun? Want me to continue? Feedback or ideas for future events in the story are welcome and encouraged!

Well, that was uneventful. :p

It seems like it would be wayy cooler if you incorporated text into the image itself and made a bit of a comic or something. And make more things happen in between panels than a tree and some dirt. :p

Ah, hey, don't wanna sink your ship of... fun..ness... but yeah, that's what I think.

Hmm, ok, I'll try putting each pack out in one image, comic-style like you suggest.

---

OK, update! Nine more panels for ya'.

it042mz.png

Construction on Ian's future neighbor's house is nearly complete. The underground piping has finished, and works flawlessly. Some grass is being planted already to cover up the area of construction. Ian seems to be a little insecure, and had a fence put in. His tree continues to grow.

Now you can't tell me this isn't exciting :) Any fan of Sim City would appreciate this.

More coming later!

I think this is a fantastic idea! IF you're committed to doing this, please continue! I enjoy these sorts of things, especially since i'm a fan of sim city. It reminds me of a city journal.

Keep it up. I'll check back here often. Excellent work by the way with the pixellated images :)

EDIT: Maybe pixellated is the wrong word. What I meant, is that its cool that you can do it all pixel by pixel, instead of taking easy way out like using something like photoshop <grins>

Stop <grinning> and <chuckling> Raz, it's creepy. D;

This is really cool, but to make it cooler you should do more crazy/interesting shit. For example, just maybe people walking past, then a bicycle, then a UFO CRASHES IN HIS BACK GARDEN. Well, maybe not, but you get the idea. Tramps pissing in hedges, police chases, winter snow, TV crews, people getting run over, drunks throwing bricks through windows... :D

Why is it creepy? It's a habit of mine from years and years(8 to be exact) of text based online roleplaying games. That's not what happens in the games, but its a way for me to emote what I want in a less formal enviroment like instant messengers, etc.

<grins so wide at Sulkdodds that the corners of his mouth seem to stretch to the bottoms of his ears in a truely wicked fashion>

Well, have you ever tried talking to someone who grins all the time and chuckles after statements?

<grin>
<chuckle>

It just seems so psychopathic.

Exciting things will start happening later, when the city (City? Well maybe more of a town) is a bit more developed :)

Thanks for those little ideas too, they help.

What you need to do:

take a million different pictures as the town progresses, and make an animated GIF showing the town's growth.

This is actually quite interesting. I look forward to seeing more of this.

I think it was better before, with you commenting on each step :(
Bah, now I'm feeling uneasy :( I liked commenting on each step too... Does anyone else object besides Erestheux? You can edit your post instead of making a new reply, to keep clutter down.

A solution would be to put the comments in the image itself, but I'm not too keen on that... Not enough room really.

If I'm being completely honest, then I hardly looked at it as a whole chunk of images. It was just a big, confusing, mess with a small chunk of text at the end that didnt really help matters.

The bleak, expressionless people you chat with are psychopathic, not me! I'm full of character!

<laughs insanely>

7 more fully narrated images. (Sorry Eres...)

Ian's neighbor, who will now be known as Sam, has had some shrubs planted next to his house. How quaint. Looks like he's going to have a cement walk! Oh, and looks like they're putting in a window.

it066hd.png

Woah! What's this!? A dual lane road, coming straigh for Ian and Sam's houses! This is good news, hopefully even more buildings will be put up. Sam's walk is turning out nicely.

it076ji.png

Plotting for this new road seems to be all finished now. Looks like Sam is going to have a cement driveway too! Fantastic. I bet Ian is jealous.

it087qh.png

Our new road is already being filled up with nice smooth cement. And so is Sam's driveway.
Oh! And look at that. A blue-jay has decided to nest in Ian's tree. Take that, Sam!

it091rm.png

The double-lane road, which we will now call 'Main Street', continues to fill up. And much to the pleasing of the construction crew, the dirt around Sam's house seems to be filling up with grass.

it101jy.png

Main Street is almost finished. The blue-jay is doing well. Grass continues to grow.

it111wq.png

Uh oh! Looks like the cement trucks got a little careless.

"WHAT THE **** DID YOU DO TO MY FENCE!?" Screams Ian. Sam smirks from inside his house, looking out the window.

More are on their way :) Thanks for all the nice comments.

Heh, This is really neat... I chuckled a few times. :)

Can't wait to see the fully fledged town... and do you suppose any "disasters"(ie: Godzilla/Twisters/UFOs) will be plaguing this quaint little town? :D

12 more panels for you.

it123sg.png

Main Street is all done except for the painting. Ian is saving up some money to repair his fence. Can you believe the construction company wouldn't give him any money for their mistake? Oh, and the porta-potty was relocated.

it132ej.png

Ah, here's the painting crew. Looking pretty nice.

it142un.png

Ian starts repairing his fence. Main Street is now officially finished. The grass in Sam's lot is nearly fully grown.

it150ih.png

As Ian's fence is finished, Sam decides it's time he got one, and there are the materials. Also, the blue-jay had babies! How cute.
And look! Who are those people? They look like surveyors. Is something going to be built there?

it165tm.png

Hoo-wee! Something big is coming. This is no house. Some kind of shop or gas station perhaps.

Sam's fence is going well.

it175ik.png

Construction on this new building has begun. A pit for the plumbing has been dug. Pipe pieces lay on the site, ready to be installed.
Sam's fence is nearly finished.

But on a sad note, Ian's blue-jay seems to have moved on :( The nest is the only sign it ever existed.

it188lm.png

Pipes installed, mason blocks on site, and the world keeps spinning.

it199gz.png

Plumbing is now ready and functional. The beginning layer of bricks have been set.

But what's this? Sam, getting an expansion on his house? And not only that, but he's doing it himself! How is he going to afford the materials, after having a cement driveway and walk, and just after buying a fence?

it203lb.png

More bricks are being layed. And Sam has begun laying bricks too! How did he afford those?

it210on.png

Sam and the construction company continue to lay bricks.

Ian is thinking about a garden.

it229lx.png

Nice garden, Ian. What will you plant?

Construction continues... But something is wrong here.

it235jj.png

I can't tell what kind of plants those are, but they seem to be budding nicely.

Ok, what the hell. The construction company had the EXACT amount of bricks they would need shipped. Yet the building is missing some. How on Earth could that have happened.

Wait a minute... No WAY, it can't be!
---
Stay tuned.

this is getting better by the day, it's really interesting

hmm main street needs a stop sign!! there's a stop line but no sign D:

what are you using for this?

Last update before I go to bed.

it241vc.png

The construction men stand with stupid looks on their faces, wondering what to do.
Ah, Ian's garden has bore fruit! Tomatoes! They are still green though, it will be a bit before they ripen.

That night, the construction company figured out where the missing bricks went.

it251dk.png

"THIS IS THE POLICE! COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP!!"

"You are under arrest for stealing materials from the construction company!"

My God, my suspicions have been confirmed! (And your's too, if you were able to figure this out... It wasn't hard)

God, I would have never guessed Sam could be such a bad person! Well, looks like Ian's going to have a new neighbor soon. Oh, and his tomatoes are almost ripe.

it268ad.png

Tomatoes are ripe! Mmm, they look good.

Sam is in jail, the bricks are returned to the site (with a sign saying "Do Not Steal"), and a police tape line surrounds the house.

it272pw.png

Paaarrrrty! Ian threw a party celebrating Sam's departure. He invited all the construction workers. They threw the tomatoes at Sam's house.

During the party, the lead worker promised to give Ian a new paved driveway.

it285hz.png

Things are back in swing, with the mason of the new building finished, and Ian's driveway ready to be poured full of cement.

it298ja.png

"WHAT THE **** DID YOU DO TO MY MAIL BOX!?" Screams Ian.

---

I look forward to continuing tomorrow :) Thanks for all your nice comments :D

Oh, and Ennui, I said in my first post that I use MS Paint. I've never used anything else for pixel art.

Yeah it would be nice to have layers sometimes, but I can still manage fine. Over the time I've spent using it, I've learnt tricks.

For those that are blind: EVERYTHING IS MADE IN MS PAINT

It's not a big town, it doesn't need one yet...

edit: need a stopsign that is

Heh, that's what I told him through AIM :)

Once the building is finished, it should deserve one. More traffic will be coming through.

That thing you did before wasn't what I meant at all. I thought that text should be incorporated with each panel.

you a crazah vegtablesnumbers :bonce:

I guess its just not my thing. :)

By the way, what the hell happened to the roof on the new neighbor's home when the original dude threw the party? Red stuff? Confusions.

They threw the tomatoes at Sam's house.
Those would be tomatoes smashed on impact with the house, thrown from the partiers. :)

Sorry, missed it by skimming. :)

Thanks guys. :)

More panels! A lot of progress in town-development this time.

it307qt.png

Sam's former house is fixed up, ready to be sold again.

Ian fixed his mailbox, and his tomato garden is beginning another cycle.

The construction company has the lumber they need on site, and right now they are installing the window.

And what's this!? The surveyors again! Another building on it's way!

it310vm.png

Ian's tomatoes continue to grow. The base of the roof on our new building has been bulit.

No sign of anything in the lower lot yet.

it31b0im.png

Ian's tomatoes are ripe.

Woah! Hello Mr. Truck, what are you up to? Carrying the water pipes? Oh, wait... Those look a little too large to be water pipes... Hmm..

Final scaffolding on the roof of the new building is finished.

it320ra.png

Almost finished with those pipes, I see. An interesting layout there... Hmm.

Ah, looks like the roof tiles have arrived, and the floor has been boarded.

And look at that fellow! Looks like he's buying Sam's old house! I wonder if he and Ian will get along.

Ian plucked his tomatoes and put them in a bushel. I wonder if he would ever become a great tomato farmer, and quit his boring job to open a market...

Nahhh.

it338tw.png

Looks like the piping is finished.. What's that little thing over there? Hmm. I might know what this is, but I won't say it yet.

Oh, look at that fabulous roofing. It's really starting to look good now!

And ya-hoo, Ian's new neighbor has officially moved in. Careful with that table, mover person!

it346dx.png

Ahah! I knew it! Those are gas pipes! It's going to be a gas station! Ah, man, this place is going to get a real traffic boost now. I wonder if they'll need a stop sign. ;)

Doors for our red-roofed building have been installed. And hey, looks like Ian's neighbor ordered some bricks! Perhaps he'll finish was Sam tried to start. Except he'll be doing it legally this time.

---

And now, for no reason at all... (I just had the urge to draw this :|)

it352dt.png

:D More coming tonight.

:D I like this a lot. You're really good at isometric pixel drawing, keep up the great work!

This is getting rather intruging (sp?) now!

Good work so far...

Bleh, didn't get as much as I thought I would finished tonight. But, the images are taking longer and longer due to new all the new stuff being put in, and having to be updated every panel.

4 more for you guys. Again, thanks for all the nice comments :)

it361oo.png

The gas dispenser thingies have been put on. Some water pipes have arrived and are ready to be installed.

Ian's new neighbor, who is named Paul, (Pixel Paul), has begun to lay the bricks for his expansion.

And they are painting the new building! Hm, looks like some kind of Mexican resturaunt. Also, another porta-potty has been put in.

it376wx.png

Paul continues his work. Ian's tomatoes are going well.

That paint job looks great.

Looks like the pipe-laying for the gas station has begun.

it388qt.png

Oh, who CALLED IT!?!? Tacos baby. I knew it was Mexican. They've already begun filling in cement for the side walk.

Piping continues to be installed at the gas station.

Paul continues his work without trouble, and Ian's tomatoes are ripe again.

it391fx.png

The perimeter for the gas station seems to have been set. Not bad at all, it's pretty decent-sized. Ian has another bushel full of tomatoes. But what is he doing out there? He looks like he's thinking about something again.

Both Paul's extension and the taco stand's sidewalk continue to develop.

---

Sorry for not having too many images today. Well, atleast it's enough for you guys I hope.

The positive feedback really helps :) I'm glad I can bring you guys enjoyment, it's the greatest reward in all this. :)

More awesome pics, can't think of any other comments.

But it does seem wierd to say you called it, when you made it :p

Just a little bit of acting, to make it fun. You'll notice I act as I don't know what's coming up pretty much for everything. I dont see anything out of the ordinary with that statement :p

Heh, you don't have to come up with unique comments every time you reply, but you can always say what you liked and didn't like to help make it better!

I was glad when Sam got arrested. He was an asshole always trying to upstage Ian with his fancy shmancy additions and stolen bricks.

The way it looks though, that road is going to be one way forever unless the whole area is redeveloped.
