Magnusson is awesome, it has to be said. Say nought but good things about him, or face a ban.

Magnusson was awesome and I especially liked the microwave casserole reference, I loled.

Yea I love his character, a welcome change of pace from the ol' 'wow great job Freeman', 'wow Gordon you are man!' sort of stuff. His interuptions of the family times made me lol.

'..and get that infernal creature OFF MY NOSE CONE!'

I like how Valve, in writing the dialogue, didn't do the obvious cliched thing and have lots of laughs at Magnusson's expense just because he is a haughty character. You know what I mean, it happens a lot: you get a character like him, and next thing you know they're responsible for a massive screw-up, or they're exposed as a coward, or they're wtfpwned in a conversation with one of the friendlier characters, or whatever.

Valve wrote a good, spiky character without having to resort to making him look like an idiot with shitty slapstick. As a result, we don't have to see Magnusson's 'seriousness' undermined, and he's funny anyway because of good dialogue. Great job.
 
Was he in White Forest all that time ? How did he survive the cascade?
 
All I remember is Alyx saying, "Wow. I thought he was going to give you a hug or something". I chuckled.
 
I thought Magnusson was going to be annoying, but his impatience is actually understandable. I'd probably be a lot worse than him if humanity's fate was in the balance and everyone is having emotional chats.
 
He's a prick, and that's what makes him a good character.
 
When I first saw him, I thought the same thing. "Omfg this guy's a prick.."
But he has some interesting quotes, and every time we talk with him, I love the look on Alyx's face. :p

Magnussons a great replacement for Breen in terms of dialog, especially since Breen is completely dead.
All the way back to his line in HL1 "My Goodness! What are you doing?" in response to the Casserole Incident.
 
Magnusson is vying with Alyx and Breen for best character in the HL series in my book. He really adds a whole new dimension to the cast of main characters.

A great call by Valve to include him! :thumbs:
 
Definately a wonderful character to add. The idea of not being praised for once is a nice break. Plus the babblings he uttered at the end were hilarious!

The microwave joke was funny, but I didn't like Magnusson a whit.
 
Finally, a man who knows how to run a Resistance base. Unlike Eli, who managed to lose entire Black Mesa East to Combine.
 
I dislike Mag's quite a bit. But that's fine, the more different types of personailty get included the more real the place becomes. Ep2 did a great job of rounding out personalities I think and I'd really like it if we got to see some of them again. Saying that though, Breen was the boss. The comparison between the iconic monologues that get delivered to the populace and the face to face meeting, you could see the guy had a screw loose and that he was actually quite pathetic. I still say he got his just deserts though by getting squished in the exploding portal.
 
He's definitely another great character though. Valve is fantastic at that.
 
I still think Rosenberg is better than Breen and Magnusson combined. :p


Haha, false alarm. Magnusson is definetly the most entertaing of the BMRF scientists aligned with the Resistance. Breen may still be my all-time favorite scientist, but it doesn't seem like he's done much scientific work ever since he became Earth's Administrator. On the other hand, Magnusson was doing his part to achieve a strategic victory for the Resistance at the right time. If it wasn't for Magnusson's rocket, all the effort made by Freeman would have gone entirely to waste. So all praise Magnusson, the real saviour of the human species!
 
It's about time one of them would be such a dick, considering their world is being overrun by hostile aliens of many different species, and slowly converting their species..
 
I hope Magnusson gets turned into a combine/zombie in Ep3. He's a worthless, whiny addition.

Most entertaining character in the whole series by a long way. It occured to me, whilst playing EP2, that the HL games have always had a great sense of humour. But the characters in EP2 are the most amusing yet. As well as Magnusson the dialogue between the 2 guys during the antlion defence scene was hilarious. And did anyone here the 'rocket launcher training' conversation near the end of the game? Very funny.
 
He is brilliant, such a strong character! I love when he walks in and sarcastically moans that he is interrupting your little tea party, lol. :D
 
But seriously, i can see how he is a nice addition to the story line, and makes for some comic relif, but he's not a very likeable character.
