^ Negative. If you're going for points, freeze towers are necessary. It makes it easier to send in more than 1 or 2 waves at a time (which gives you bonus points.)
Groundbreakers are pretty useful too when used right.
Also, fully upgraded squirts are well worth the price, they shoot really fast and do tons of damage with every hit.

This boy speaks the truth. Freeze+squirt+bash = perfect combo.

I'm starting to get a cent maze like that, the only thing is, I try to keep anything from having that 1 part overlap, so that the spawns don't fly through. Drives me crazy when I kill the spawn, and it launches to the other side, then get through.

I made this, it works good. Them 5-star Pellet things really know how to clean up.

I didn't use the lock system much either :D Just at the very end with the spawn boss.

Less squirts, more pellets. Use the pellets to maze the guys around with a few well placed squirts fully upgraded. You'll notice it works better.
 
just a heads up, this has been updated now ... the new 10k gold fun mode is pretty good
 
Eh I stopped upgrading pellets when I play because they become useless around level 15 even if its a sniper tower. Tsunami towers and blizzard towers all the way U_U
 
I decided to have another go at it with the new spawn guys. Here's my anti-spawn design. No lives lost on normal, I can probably beat it on hard (with about 10 lives left).

Yeah, I've been playing the 3k gold mode...that definately makes it tough on your maze....I regular teh forums, and you guys should, too!

Start up the 10k Gold Fun mode, and build a map like this before starting the enemies coming. You can keep clicking 'send next level' simultaneously all the way up to level 48 (if your computer is fast enough!) and you have a few thousand nasties in the maze at once ... not a single once gets out alive!! Its quite cool to see. Get it built and you'll see what I mean.

Basically its just a mass slaughter machine. The cheap turrets just guide them into the machine, where they get absolutely pounded.

That would have been better with 2 AA's...you seem to have been fine with land guys, but the air is what got you...2 fully upgraded airs would be tough to get, but if you would have wrapped around a little more so the squirts could hit the guys a bit more..you could have gotten it with no lives lost.
 
I spread my resources too thin, so I just let myself die, but here's the pattern I'd like to try. I think I can get away with no freeze tower or AA until around level 35. So simple but so perfect!

The two squirt towers not part of the main group were a last-ditch effort to add more fire-power; I think this design can do no lives lost.
 
I've got a perfect pattern for you, I got 6800 on normal, no lives lost. It lets your towers get 4 passes at the creeps. I'll post a pic in a sec.

Tried to do a lock design so I could have more AA . . . but I didn't get my AA ready fast enough for the flying bosses and 1 got away. :(

Wow, this thread is still going strong.

I guess I'll give the game another go... I love defense type games.
 
Well, this got me through the 4k challenge...sent the waves too fast when it came up to the fast boss...one of them got through, then 3 spawns, then these little bastards. All in all, I spent too much money on that bash tower. Should have gotten another squirt.

Well, they work awesome if you upgrade them to actually do some damage. The only reason I lost really was because I upgraded didnt make the last loop around quickly enough, and a bunch got through it on level 45. Up until the last 5 levels nothing made it past the first Bash tower, it pwned everything before it out. Then the flying boss came and got over easy, but that was just one dude. All the other flying things got shot down easy by the squirts.


EDIT: How come they didnt just leave through the bottom opening on your map?
 
They were the guys from the left side..I killed all the ones coming from the top.

And if you would have had more lvl 5 squirts, your map wouldn't have let ANYTHING through.
 
Look, a perfect score on the 10k funmode. I built it completely with the 10k and never touched it after starting it. I released all the enemies at the exact same time (using my g15 :D).

Yeah, the perfect 10k's are easy, and fun as hell to do, lol.
 
I used juggling to get the HL2.net highscore for hard difficulty. I think I could get 7000 if I did everything perfectly with the same map. I slipped up my timing a bit and let a few through
