Is that from one of the Metal Slug games?

Nah I kid.

Their actually unwashed pretensious trogladites.

he fell over the railing ... not just in a pile of fire. maybe they wanted to show off the fire effect more.

He fell off the ledge while on fire.

i think the movie owns...i think its way better then the traptown movie..i mean u got options, u could kill those "manhaters" (dunno if its then right word) but that guy just closed the door and searches for another path...i mean rah

he means that the soldier on fire fell all the way down over the edge in the e3 vid, but in the STEAM vid he just fell over

Man hacks :)

no, it's been said a million times: each time they render the demo for recording, the ragdoll physics are different. One time he may fall over the edge, another he may not, it's random.

so then it doesnt render the physics accurately. unless something's changing each time during the demo-play, everything should behave the same. though maybe they added some kind of randomizing factor to jive things up a bit...

I'm pretty sure there is some randomness assigned .. to a freaking guy who is on fire! No? :)

And then there was Berlusconi.

why would there be randomness to a fixed animation? you think the AI is so advanced that his flailing is different every time? -_o

in half-life, fire a pistol at a wall repeatedly. the bullets don't land in exactly the same spot each time right? same with the demo in question. there's a randomizer on the point of impact for all shots in the game so as to make it more realistic. since this is an arcing weapon in terms of how the flare flies, a flight variation would hit the guy further up his body, sending him backwards and into a pile. the shot in the original demo obviously hit him lower so his top half came falling forward and eventually over the railing. i think it's great what're doing with this.

First of all I don't think it's a fixed animation. Even if it is, there is probably 8-10 of them like in the original game.

But more likely it's just a simple addition to the AI .. nothing advanced .. eg:

Code:
if (onFire == true) //run around randomly like a psycho

:)

P.S. The "falling" is not a scripted animation - it's ragdoll physics. He only fell in the first one because he stepped off the ledge.

I thought the randomiser was for the amount of damage a shot did, and i thought when you shot in the same place twice, that was all the same as log as you moved it would shoot in the same weay as it did before instead of a randomiser. But pretty cool stuff. Gr8 vid tho

to see bump map just look at the floor in this vid. It looks 3d. :)

I think it was cool when he hit the manhack thing with the crowbar and it knocked over the paint cans. Nice job valve looks great!

In the begining of the tunnels movie you can se some kind of rocket down to the right in the hud. Anybody know what kind of weapon, ammo that is?

Someone say Tunnels??!? Best.Music.Ever. :)

Can't explain how well I thought that music set the mood for that... and the pistol was like part of the soundtrack itself, along with the flying things trying to cut you up, all sounded like it was part of the song.

That's not bumpmapping, that's the model of the floor. :) I liked the water poddles though. Perhaps if we got a closer look we'd really see the bumpmapping if there is some on it. :)

I think the general consensus is that it's a representation of ammo for the weird flamey-launchy-is-it-a-flare-gun-or-rocket-or-what?-type-gun. And yes that is the technical name valave are using at the moment.
Althought there are people who'll tell you that it's a large dildo.
<Shakes head reproachfully>

Yeah, that gun is real weird aint it? It's cool though. Headshot! :p

Yep, it really sets the mood, doesn't it?

BTW the flare gun is used by the combine to launch flares and call in gunships when they are in trouble (as seen in the Barney vid). But looks like Gordon found another use for it :cheese:

Dunno... That's one hefty bloody flare gun...
But amusing nonetheless.

I seriously doubt a flare gun would be that big. It's got to be a proper gun.

Yeah .. I thought about that too. But it is called a Combine flare gun, and the Combine do launch flares which look very similar to the ones that come out of that thing.

True but why waste the ammo of that motherf*cker to signal ships when you could be frying dirty resistance scum?

But a Flare gun would have to shoot pretty far up, no? When Gordon shot the first shot he missed... and it went off not too far behind the Combine, then afterward he hit him with a headshot...

Can't handle it. ;)
