So, anyone picking up Twilight Princess for the GameCube today??

I picked mine up this morning at Best Buy. There was about 7 people waiting in line to get it also. Compared to the Wii, with the exception of the new controls, the game looks and sounds identical...not surprising considering the Wii version is essentially a GCN port.

So far so good though. Has the look and feel of OOT....which is a very good thing. Lookin forward to really hittin it hard tonight after work. I'll update with a better opinion then, if anyone's interested. :D

I'm getting my Wii with this in 2 weeks. :D

Should be arriving on Friday. If not, then I'll just cancel the Play.com order, give 'em the V and go and pick it up myself.

I CANNOT WAIT.

Why is the UK getting stung on releases by Ninty? >: (

We're getting all of the good stuff later.

Got mine pre-ordered because there is no chance of getting a Wii. Hopefully be playing it by Friday/Saturday.

Don't feel bad Cormeh, I read that Japan can only get the GCN version through an online order. So, Ninty is screwing the hometeam a little harder. At least you'll be able to walk to a brick and mortar and pick one up.

Oh goodness. Third temple makes me cry with difficulty pain. :(

i've had it for about 5 days now, yes third temple is a headache,

slight hint spoiler:

the key is finding the waterwheels and getting the water to flow towards them.

but if you think third temple is hard, wait till fourth:

slight spoiler:

because at this point you can change between wolf and human at will so you need both sets of skills to solve the puzzles. plus, sinking sand!! arghh!!!

I'm asking for it for Christmas. I'm glad that the GCN version turned out to actually be good, because honestly, I can't imagine myself having fun playing that on a Wii. I can't wait to play it, though.

Hopefully getting it alongside the Wii at Christmas.

I just read a player review on Gamespot or Spy or IGN or someplace that said some temples take up to 5 hours? Is this true?

...

Sweet!

shouldn't it be a NGC if anything, anyway i don't understand all the people saying they prefer the non-wii version.

The temples do not take up to 5 hours unless you are absolutely stuck on one puzzle for hours. On average I would say the temples are about 2 hours long, some longer, some shorter. I can think of a few puzzles in a couple of the temples that may give players some problems for an hour or two.

BTW, the Wii controls are in every way superior to the old style of controls, and pretty much everyone has concluded this to be true. With that said, the controls don't vastly change the game or anything but they do make it more enjoyable. If you are thinking this will be tiring or you will look ridiculous it's not like that at all, you can still lounge in your chair and do real subtle movements to pull off everything.

Ahhh, I had a feeling there was some crazy set-yp in Japan, but I wasn;t sure of what the deal was.

As for controls, the only thing I'll find superior about the Wii input more than likely is aiming the bow. Been playing 3D Zelda on a controller for years, doubtfully going to tarnish the experience. That said, I do want to play it on the Wii too.

The aiming for all the weapons is the main advantage (and a very big one) of the Wii controls. A lesser advantage (but one that has helped me a lot) is the ability to quickly do a whirlwind slash by just doing a shake of the nunchuck instead of swiping and holding the sword attack button. It really makes the whirlwind slash much more useful.

The sword spin is easy to pull off on the controller, just a quick spin and a tap of B. ;)

and the shield bash, just push the nunchuck forward. and cormeh that leads to link having to move a bit, with the wii you don't have to press anything, just shake the nunchuck from side to side and he sword spins. so much better.

i played the GCN version the other day, and let me tell you NO COMPARISON, the gcn version is technically the same game, but man you just don't feel as immersed AT ALL. i feel sorry for all you gamecubers...

..i really do... you poor suckers....

Well....I'm a few hours in now. Still haven't gotten to the first temple, but I'm definitly taking my time with it and soaking it in. It's a gorgeous game. Visually identical to the Wii version. So far so great...I love it. The running and slashing is a terrific addition. Controling Epona seems very intuitive...I remember pulling my hair out controlling Argo in Shadow of the Collossus.

The only thing that bums me out a bit is the midi music. I read somewhere that Nintendo was going to full ochestrated music for this game. It doesn't drag the game down to me, but it would have been a great addition...the music is still top notch however. I do like how they continued to leave out voice work however...it allows you to use your imagination a bit more. In my head...I find myself giving people voices as I read through...it's interesting...I've always thought that that was the intended effect. If Nintendo ever decided to do voice work...I'd only do it if they were creating a language for Hyrule...and you still needed text boxes for translation.

Having now played both versions, I can say the only benefit of the Wiimote is aiming. Big shocker, I know. But, anything that buys me extra time from having to spend $250 is definitly a good thing. Metroid Prime 3 is going to be impossible for me to pass up. I'll cave then. ;)

That's right. Otherwise there's little difference except the GC version not supporting wiescreen and the control method.

Personally I love using the Wiimote and Nunchuck. Aiming is easier, and using it to whack bad guys is pretty satisfying, but mainly I like the novelty. Zelda with a twist :)

tut tut, in my opinion buying the Gamecube version just spoiled an experiance ery few games can and will offer. I'm 20hours into twilight princess and its stacking up to be one of the best games I have ever played. I personlly would hate to play it with a normal controller. Saying that I would hate to play any game without the Wiimote now lol.

The controls aren't a big concern to me. Granted, I haven't used the Wiimote yet, so I can't really talk, but I know Its going to be kickass regardless.

I just want the game now, to play this new masterpiece, instead of having to wait around for my moneys worth of stuff to arrive on the Wii.

I just got past the third dungeon and, in terms of Ocarina of Time, I have just become an adult. So far, this is probably the best game I've ever played.

Just finished the game. It is indeed as awesome as everyone says. I think Ocarina is still better though, just a few things about it that make Ocarina stand above Twilight Princess.

I clocked in at about 32 hours without doing any side missions, which is pretty damn impressive. I'm gonna go back now and try and do some side missions now. Awesome game though.

you didn't do any side missions? why bother just running through the game?

just out of interest how many hearts did you end up with?

Arghhhh. So apparantly Play.com have been sending out e-mails saying who will get a copy and who won't. I pre-ordered about a month back now and I haven't got an e-mail saying either. Apparantly loads of places, be it Amazon or Game, are having trouble with pre-orders and the stock. I'm seeing the Wii version everywhere... how can this simple release be so messed up to some places? It angers me so much. I don't know why.

Yeah, our GAME store had loads, so I now have it. :D Cancelled my Play order as they've suddenly decided to now tell me it's out of stock. I'll use Amazon next time.

But what a game. Seriously, I'm loving it. I just got back from a solid 3 hours or so of playing from the start til the start of the Forest Temple. I didn't think the 'start' of the game was going to be that long, but I don't care; it was stupidly fun. I'm not going to go rambling on now as I'm really tired, but if there's one thing that has really jumped out at me so far it's the graphics. I don't care if the textures on the ground are a little blurred, and if theres a few jagged eges: everything just looks so lush and beautiful.

Damnit it's good. Got to try and stop myself from letting it take over my last few school days, so then I can get into it again in holidays with no worry of work. :)

Aye, this game is quality. Been a long wait, but it's been worth it.

I'll probably pick it up for the GC for Christmas.

About to head up to the Goron mines now. I must say, there were some real brain teasers in the Forest Temple. I usually breeze through temples (with the exception of anything Water, ick) but there were parts in this were I was seriously stumped. I'm too use to looking for the obvious like in the previous games, as there was some stuff I had to do which I didn't even think of for at least 5 minutes.

You found parts of the Forest Temple hard? Eek, you gonna find some of the later temples downright impossible.

I'm currently on Dungeon 6 and have been enjoying every minute so far. The bosses are some of the best things I've ever seen in a game and I reckon the minibosses have had more work put into them than most of the actual bosses in WW.

As for the mirror-reversal of the game, the Gamecube version is correct because it places the desert and Death mountain in the right places compared to the forest and Hyrule Castle. :p Mind you, it's pretty off anyway. North has changed direction by about 70 degrees since OoT.

Not hard, just a considerably step up from previous games. It's probably because this is the first time I've done a temple since... well, whenever I did the last temple in Wind Waker which was around the month of it's release.

It was places like getting the Big Key - I didn't even look at the pattern on the ground, I was thinking simplicity and just throwing the Boomarang at them in no order. Combinding the Boomarang with the bombplants, also. When you had to move a rock from the top of a small space I got it (boomarang > plant > rock = boom) and because I was still in that frame of mind, when it came to the next part, which was going further along the ledgeplace and blowing up another rock, I was trying to do the same, by moving the bomb along a series of waypoints, completly forgetting I could send the bomb/boomarang back to myself. Just minor things that I over-looked, really. I'll adjust.

Gonna go play again now. :D

AntiPop:

I agree completely. Although the dungeons/temples aren't overly difficult, they can prove quite challenging.

*****SPOILER*****

The Lakebed Temple stumped me for a while, plus the sheer size of the place.... wow.

*****END*****

Well, I just retrieved an item I saw coming a mile away. Think I'll explore a bit before progressing the plot.

Yeah, see I'm breezing through the Goron Mine now, with only one backtrack to re-look at an area. The upside-down walls are crazy. I've just come up the part as seen in one of the early videos; an outdoor section with lots of those Goblin things (are they still called Moblins like from WW? Note: I miss the way you could check up on enemies for their names with Navi.) are firing arrows at you. Can't wait!

how is that a spoiler?

i like the game

end.

I've been trying to hold off playing TP - first untill component cables arrived, and then till Christmas. Needless to say I caved in a few days ago and have just finished the mines. Awesome stuff - so far it's easily the best single player game i've played this year :)

The Mines were awesome - I much preferred them to the Forest Temple. But then, I've never liked the Forest Temples because they just feel too... ehh.. box-room like. Y'know, all the rooms are just standard walled rooms with some vines, a Trifid and some nasty purple liquid that harms you? I don't know, I just never liked them.

The Mines, however, with it's scaling walkways, pipelines, cranes, ladders, caverns, jets of molten larva... wow. Just wow.

And the Lakebed Temple? I'm confused as hell already, but I LOVE IT. The water effects... oh my. So good. I, too, am trying to save the game until the Christmas holidays. Thats going to be hard seeing that I have a day off tomorrow but, ah, finishing the temple can do no harm. :) Little worried about the holidays, actually, as I'm going to be getting GoW and BF2 + the 360... so these, plus Zelda + measly two weeks holiday that's also revision time = uh oh.

I love this game so much. It's just epic. Real epicawesomeamazinggreatbeautifulstunning.

Can someone show me an example of Wii (or Gamecube) image quality using different component cables? I did a search and came up dry.
