This is more to the whiners out there
1. Valve does not owe you anything.
Valve is an independent game company. It is not obliged to write games for you and does not owe you any explanation. Nor do you have any rights to demand anything from them. Nowhere in their business clause did they state that, "We, the people at valve, hereby swear with our blood and soul, that we will write games for you and be your faithful slave for all eternity". They are doing something that they (hopefully)love, make some money in the process, and benefits us at the end.
2. The game is not yours.
It's the property of the hl2 team that work for valve. Hence they have all the right to tweak it, polish it, (and push back the release date) all they want; until they are satisfied and can be proud of it. This is actually a good thing. I'm sure all of you would not want hl2 to end up like "enter the matrix" or some other hyped crappy game that was rushed through development just to make it in time for the holidays.
3. A beta leak is normal.
Yes, a beta leak is normal, a source code leak is not. Valve is probably not too concern about the game but rather, the engine (and their network environment). It's all about damage control of intellectual property. i.e. the source engine. Who actually cares about the game anyway. It's always, "the graphics look so beautiful", blah blah blah, "the lighting is so realistic", blah blah blah. Even if hl2 is renamed "TalesofGrandma", it'll still be the same comments. So go on, download a working build of the game, instead of the source code.
4. Valve is not even listening to you.
The hl2 team consist of not only programmers but animators, sound artists, writers, marketing personel, system administrators, and... lawyers. If your comments/ideas are so extraordinary and valuable, you'll be working for them (or the goverment) instead of flaming in the forums. Nor will they ever listen to you unless they want their company to collaspe. Notice that this point is actually of no concern to those who post their ideas/views peacefully.
5. It's not valve's fault.
It's their fault that they didn't maintain security over their network. It's not their fault that someone stole their code+build. So stop writing that they deserve it. This brings us back to point 1. Valve does not owe you anything.
6. English is not my native language.
Pardon all the bad grammer, use of tenses and bad sentence structure.
