It's probably the biggest Half-Life 2 related story of the year so far, so it won't hurt to have another news post about it, surely?[br]Valve have just released a press release officially confirming that Episode 2 will ship with both Team Fortress 2 and Portal:
VALVE REVEALS NEW DETAILS ON EPISODE TWO[br]Includes Team Fortress 2 and Portal, Heading To PC and Next Gen Console[br]Bellevue, WA, July 14, 2006 - Valve®, developer of the blockbuster
series Half-Life® and Counter-StrikeTM, unveiled Team Fortress® 2 and
Portal, two new games to be included in its next release, Half-Life® 2:
Episode Two. In addition, the studio announced its plans to deliver
these products, plus enhanced versions of Half-Life 2 and Episode One,
in one tremendous package for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.[br]"By evolving our development process to an episodic approach, we're able
to reduce risk from things such as schedule and funding and invest more
in new types of gameplay," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of
Valve. "This allows us to produce innovative titles such as Portal and
Team Fortress 2 and deliver them in a timely fashion to customers along
with Episode Two."[br]Episode Two advances the 16-million unit selling franchise, as Valve's
trilogy of episodic single player releases continues the award-winning
story of Half-Life 2. Armed with new weaponry and vehicles, Dr. Gordon
Freeman must race through a countryside riddled with an increasingly
feirce Combine threat.[br]Team Fortress 2, an all-new version of the title that spawned team based
multiplayer action games, features the most advanced graphics of any
Source-based game released to date. Players choose from a range of
unique character classes such as medic, spy, sniper, or engineer and
must work together to complete a variety of tactical objectives.[br]Portal is a new type of single player game that changes how players
approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given
environment in a manner similar to how the Gravity Gun changed our
approach to how an object may be leveraged in any given situation.[br]Team Fortress 2 and Portal will be included with all retail and Steam
versions of Episode Two for the PC. In addition, these products plus
Half-Life 2 and Episode One will be available in one tremendous offering
for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Probably the best thing, however, about the press release, is that attached is also the following great image of all of the Team Fortress 2 classes:[br]

[br]So there's the cast of characters, but that's not all:
New videos from Episode Two,
Portal, and Team Fortress 2 will be released next week.
...Stay tuned!

I like it. VERY incredibles. I bet it will look pretty darn sweet in action. I just hope the lighting model is such that these models won't stick out like a sore thumb, particularly the sniper.

Remember Old Man Murray? They would have approved: something that uses color, uses high concept art instead of drab millitary sewers.

Omg Orgasm! Too bad the videos are coming out next week. The future is bright and wild my friends!

In my opinion it always had to go this way. Let's be honest, Team Fortress is NOT a realistic game. Team Fortress 2 therefore shouldn't be either.

They definitely went in the right direction going for this more cartoony look.

interesting...

The player models explain what Gabe meant by the new graphics style... :D

I don't know if I like it yet or not, but I guess time will tell... but for now:

YAY, TF2 is finally going to be released!

God, and if Duke Nukem Forever actually goes into active development and marketing this year too... Vapourwhat?

OMG , hurry please :)

TF2 looks awesome, I hope we will have veichles and that sort of stuff.

I really hope the gameplay is kicked up a few more complex notches. The look is great, but after all this, it better not be just a port in terms of gameplay style.

Can't wait for these videos!
TF2 Looks a bit different :)

lol look at the background, those guys are small!:burp:

Looks intresting!

Omg, that looks awesome! Pixar-style work indeed!

[July 15th, 2006] - I Want My TF™II

Well folks, Team Fortress™ 2 will be here shortly and community sites are
popping up all over the web. Clans are starting to form, Tournaments are
being planned, and information pages are being posted. If you haven't
checked out the sites yet, be sure to visit our links section or visit
PlanetFortress.com for more information. (originally posted December 18th 1998 by VALVe).

About time, but I do hope the movies show it's more than a port of the same old 10 years old gameplay. Things HAVE changed since...

But damnit i can't wait to be that HW

cool shader they got going there(if those are accruate representations), and is it just me, or is the background a hint at the map settings... rats maps anyone?

You can see the new shadowing tech in that screenshot: Multiple shadows being casted by a single source as well as shadows being casted onto more than just the floor...

Yes... Source just keeps getting better and better... as planned, of course. :E

Er, Ia gree that the shadows look new... but in HL2 they were cast onto more than just the floor: they did walls too.

Oh my, TF2 looks better than I anticipated. At first I was really sceptical about the "cartoony" look, but now all I want is to play TF2 :p. I can't wait for the vids!
And the best thing is, that if I want to play a "realistic" looking version, I'll just play Fortress Forever \o/.

Which trailer are you most excited over? Me: Portal.

Hum, why are we absolutely sure this isn't a render ? It looks like one to me.

Haha, that looks very nice! I like the look of it, and I like the way Valve went with it, we got too many realistic-looking FPS's nowadays, time for a change imo. :)
I hope I'll like it though because I didn't really appreciate TF1 that much.

Can’t wait for the videos.

Player/Dynamic objects shadows? I thought they always went through the walls.

And, I think self soft-shadowing is there, too.

Valve doesn't do renders. There are plenty of signs to prove it's in-game rendering.

Plus, we'll be seeing a video next week. :)

Haha! yeah they do look very incredibles...or Pixar-esque.
Didn't Valve say they will be re-doing how Source does lighting for EP2? I assume TF2 will have it too.

The art style looks pretty trippy I kinda like it. Hope to see some slighty exaggerated animations to go along with those. Also as far as gameplay goes hope to see new styles of play.

With the visual style changing that much, I'm sure the gameplay will change a bit as well.

Interesting, yes.

TF2? No.

And now, it looks like never. Farewell, Brotherhood of Arms. You were a nice dream of what could have been. Moment of silence, please.

love the new look - I think more games should follow this direction (like the NOLF series, the banana peel was great in deathmatch) - though after playing Narbacular Drop, I'm more interested to see how Portals pans out - not forgetting to check in on Alyx and Dog.

Initially I thought it was a render just based on the shadows that are cast, but it does make sense since they said they were doing upgrades to the shadow technology and it could very well be real.

The cartoony look doesn't bother me one way or another, I just hope it doesn't revolve around the novelty of the cartoon look and just focuses on good gameplay.

Wow. I wasnt sure what to expect, but this looks to be VERY crazy. Im loving it. Cant wait for all this media!

Indifferent really. It could grow on me, it could not. One thing's for sure Valve have shown they have a more 'fun' side to them (that or they deliberately designed a game that would do well with the console lovers and kiddies).

Oh and:
This allows us to produce innovative titles such as Portal and Team Fortress 2 and deliver them in a timely fashion to customers along with Episode Two.
Somebody did their maths wrong. Either that or they're being slightly economical with the truth, because 7 years isn't exactly what I'd call timely.
