I looks like it could be good. I'm always willing to give everything a shot.

It is Spielberg and Cruise, so my hopes are extremely high.

Cant wait, going to see it 100%.

teeheehee :)

Well it sure as hell looks better than the Pendragon one lol :D But I can't wait to see what the FM's look like

well its definately not based on the original book thats for certain. Be closer to the radio play if anything.

Dude there were no striders. Or three legged things in that trailer.

Bah.

Lets just hope the aliens die out from virus's and stuff LIKE THEY SHOULD DO!

I think a WotW period piece would have been nice, maybe by a British director. However that wouldn't have pulled in the masses like a modern day Spielberg - Cruise production.

Initially I was yay, but I saw the trailer and hated the narrator's voice compared to Jeff Wayne's crazy war of the worlds musical.

Also I don't like the sound of the tale being based on a typical family...I liked the original Journalist's tale.

That's just me though. Still going to see it.

edit: got to be better than the first war of the worlds movie though.

I'm hoping it'll be more like a survival type story, not taken from the point of view of some hero. So that it would be more just him and his family trying to survive but not having anything to do with beating the martians, no rebellion or anything fancy. Which would work well with the whole bacteria killing them off anyway.

If the day after tomorrow had gone that route and avoided the heroics it might have been a better movie too. The survival bits were more interesting than the "I'm gonna walk across a frozen waste to save my son in an implausable situation" type thing.

Anyone notice the storyline of Independance day mirrored war of the worlds a bit? Only the virus was a computer virus, with a laughing skull.

wow, didn't see that trailer.

YAY

speaking of Tom Cruise - I'd love to see him again as a F-14 pilot in Top Gun 2 :E
that was one of the best movies with fighters (tie-fighters don't count) and I sure hope they'll someday do a sequel.

Independence Day was a modern War of the Worlds. Just goes to show how strong the basic idea is when it comes to capturing peoples imagination.

Only because they showed the White House blowing up in the trailer. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I went to see it anyway, watching famous landmarks blow up. :D

I'm definately going to watch it. I'm a fan of Spielberg, Cruise, HG Wells as well as a lot of destruction.

Instead of just dying from the common cold, I'd expect the military actually use Germ Warefare against the aliens as a counterstrike. Woohooo

Verry good point, if I recall correctly the book took that root.

Cannot wait :D

I think the Spielburg + Cruise combo will pay off.

The Cruise part had me.

Ow. That hurts.

Although that future-movie with the pre-murders and stuff was pretty good.

I'm not sure about Tom Cruise. I think he has too much of a screen presence just to play a regular bloke. Not much in the trailor, but it looks decent so far, and I doubt you can go far wrong with a Spielburg-Cruise combo.

Pretentious hollywood crap as usual, indebting the rest of the world to America and Tom Cruises floppy hair for saving all our poor, small, defenseless thirdworld primate asses with big guns, tanks and nukular weppins.

got my ticket already.

Hehe...although from all the shots and stuff they've released so far, it seems Cruise is just trying to survive with his daughter. He doesn't seem to be the world's hero.

Scary moment - I find myself in agreement with CR0M....

I'm quite sure there was a little acknolegement of the other countries in Independance Day. Or at least a shot of a British flight officer (Who got to say something! OMG!) As well as various other groups.

So it wasn't ALL the Americans.

I'm pretty sure someone said "London" at one point. I think.

Yeah, pretty sure.

This movie sounds pretty interesting. I like epic movies, and since it's directed by Spielberg I definately think it'll be worth the ticket price

Never seen that trailer before. Awesome.

I can't wait to see this movie. Destruction on a large scale should be spectacular. Independence Day didn't satisfy my appetite. Maybe this will. Plus it has Dakota Fanning from the alien series Taken. She's a great actress for her age.

Whatever happened to that show? I started watching it, got to the 6th episode, and then forgot about it completely... Well, either that or I got Halo. Either way, I really want to see the entire series start to finish. Anywhere I can get it?

Oh, and this movie = Yay. The narrative style in the trailer is top-notch :D So top-notch, in fact, that I'm going to go watch it again!

I can't wait! I hope there are lots of cheesy salutes and "eat this"'s, I especially can't wait for the part when it'll cut to a shot of an American flag waving in the wind and a lot of people looking scared but then there'll bad-ass American commando carrying a big gun who'll say "Let's kick some alien ass". Upon saving the world there'll be lots of cheering and hugging and smiling.

Hell, I don't even need to see this movie, I already know how it's going to pan out! Another amazing 'interpretation' by Hollywood.

one questiong

what they are fighting against?

you people talk about a virus so the enemy is a virus?

As far as I know, and I know next to nothing about this (not having seen, heard or read War of the Worlds), the aliens are eventually brought down by the resident bacteria and viruses across the globe.

This is Spielberg we're talking about here, not Uwe Boll. :D

Being British and in no way wishing to provoke an agreement all I see from the trailer is “How America is going to save us all ".

I will watch the movie and no doubt cringe at the cheesy clinches and hold my head in my hands as the stars and stripes fly at the end.

Hollywood, Spielberg, Tom Cruise......?

Did somebody mention London.....?

Please I hope I’m wrong but another America saves the world again movie, do we need it?

What was stopping the British from making it? British directors should have jumped on the chance a long time ago. Your loss. Just because its American makes it bad?

You can get the Taken DVD set on Amazon. Here's a link.

http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/AS...97637/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/702-5554747-3032826

If you like aliens, UFOs, government conspiracies, etc, you'll surely like the rest of the series. Taken was made by Spielberg as well.

Precisely why I started watching it in the first place. Thanks for the link :D
