What game genre do you wish would go away?

But those of us that hate turn-based games have the right to hate Fallout. :|

thats where you are wrong, nobody is allowed to hate fallout, the legal minimum limit as far is not liking it is "eh, it was fun."

look it up, its clear as day written in the bill of rights right at the bottom. "These rights do not apply towards those that would denounce fallout 1 or 2, denouncers will be flogged and placed in reeducation camps."

I only just picked up both Fallout games this year because I felt ashamed for completely missing out on them. I thought I'd just take a brief stroll through history, recognize the its quality, and then be on my way.

Instead I became utterly engrossed. Total Fallout junkie. And if you insult the memory of dear Dogmeat, I'll kill you. That's not a threat. That's an actual forecast of your demise.

Well... um...
You see, my Fallout experience was rather bad.
Consisted of walking into a sewer filled with like 50 rats, and each step I took I had to wait like 90 seconds for each rat to make a move... after that I pretty much got pissed and took the disk out of the drive and broke it. :|

I'm not sure I want any entire genre to go away as they all seem to have their turds and gems...though it depends slightly on how specific we can be about a genre...I mean I'm not sure there's enough bass-fishing simulators to really justifying calling it a genre...

anyways the only genre I can think of that I definitly wouldn't mind seing gone would probably be:

TENTACLE-RAPE-HENTAI(and I think hentai in general)

although I've never played one...I just can't imagine anything good coming from that genre...

other genre that I wouldn't really care about if they were gone(but that I don't really mind either) would be:

sport games...the normal kind(football, baskekball, tennis etc etc.)

first part I did exactly the same....second part I did just the opposite...couldn't really stand the bugfest that game was(first one) and all the other stuff yada yada...though following recent discussions I'm somehow managing to have fun playing thru tactics...:rolling:

I'm interested in picking up Tactics, but from what I've heard it's a significantly weaker entry into the franchise. And it's not considered canon IIRC.

Half Life.

Haha! Got you.
RTS games on consoles.
They just.. CANT pull it off. God, dont even freaking try.
Anyone ever played AvP:Predator for the xbox?
It might have been fun, had it had a multiplayer with bots or mayble live support.
But no, the only thing to do was the tutorial and the campaigns... WTF?
Long live the Turn-Based Strategy game! Havn't you all heard of the Worms (2d) on the xbox 360 live arcade? Its cool, im gonna try it out.
I lost my Advance wars... dual strike... (cry).. -sniff-
Also, TBS games like civ and Gal Civ should stay. Theyre fun... well, for the patient and tactical type.

That's what most people do. But within 1 or 2 years you'll have an urge to play it again and you'll make it past the noobie stage. You'll also realize that it's one of the best battle systems in any RPG.

fixed.

the combat system was one of the main things that turned me off from this game. so ****ing slow and cumbersome...

RTS games on consoles.

Seconded, they just dont belong there. If Live Anywhere (or whatever its called now) had C+C players from the 360 and the PC, on average who do you think would win?

PC users.

Also, I'm sick of MMOs and movie-based games (granted, there are a few that are good).

I disagree. Apart from the fact that PC players will be able to move across the battlefield quicker I don't see how it might change the tide of a battle that could go so many ways with C&C (and other games alike) diverse way of fighting.

And aside from the speed of scolling across the battlefield, they are still both identical games. I've said it before, but RTS's require two things: dragging a box around a unit to select them, then pressing where you want them to move/destroy. Easy as.

I dunno, I've tried it on both systems, and I liked the PC version better. Everything can be controlled by the mouse (maybe hardcore players bind keys and stuff but I dont), whereas the 360 version needs specific buttons to perform different functions. It just seems a lot easier and more natural.

none, the more options the better.

if u dont like a genre dont play it.

Thing is though, developers that could otherwise be making more enjoyable games spend their time making games that specific people dont like. So they have a reason to wish that genre away.

Hotkeys.

PC users would destroy console users even without hotkeys.

I've destroyed many-a-folk over online play without using hotkeys, and as I regard controls for msot RTS games on a console the very same as on a PC, I think that speaks for itself. Pretty sure the person I play online with uses hotkeys, but with a good defence and a good, secure intake of ore/tiberium, I had the game in the bag.

In my eyes, most RTS's go way, way beyond controls. It's in the name: strategy.

What about consensual tentacle hentai?

Don't knock it until you've tried it. As for good coming out of it I could point you to several studies that would think it's a great thing that helps reduce the rate of certain crimes.

I think just about every genre has been named by different people.

I'm cool with all games except shitty movie rip-offs (I think everyone hates those)

I do wish there was more 3rd person games that aren't mmorpgs.

Yup yup. I remember I tried to play C&C Red Alert on PS1, and gave up after about 10 minutes, going right back to the PC version, which was both a lot easier and more fun to use.

Whatever Guitar Hero is, that genre and sports games.

Nooooo, don`t kill turn-based games, they`re awesome. :(

Turn based games are great. But they need more Total-War style games.

:3

Wishing an entire genre to go away doesn't make any sense at all. If I don't like a particular genre I don't play it, and only in very rare instances does the existance of a genre interfere with what I want (WoW being an example).

That said if I could make "something" in the gaming world go away then it would be:

1. MS PC-gaming monopoly.*
2. Xbox/xbox360
3. The ability to easily and effortlessly pirate PC-games.

In my oppinion the three-headed beast that is killing PC-gaming.

.bog.

* Yes, 90+% of the market constitues a monopoly
