Just... wtf?!
If the gman and sudden stopping of time
didn't make it badass, I would be mad. We didn't learn a damn thing! To quote someone I know

"seriously you dont learn ANYTHING in that damn game
who the combine are who gman is not a ****ing thing
oh all of a sudden some aliens came and took over?wtf"

It was AWESOME, but just, wtf?! Cliffhangers! Ahhh

gotta make you NEED to play the expansions/sequels :p

I know man, I know, it just sucked. It felt like they rushed that one a bit. And weren't you expecting a giant boss or something, the final scene was not hard at all (good!). On the plus side, the gravgun was cool, no? :)

I don't know.. i think i was the only one who really liked the ending..

well gman tells you a hint of himself

gman is freeman from the future

I liked the ending, reminds me of the 2nd matrix whereas there was the electrify thing with Neo and a total cliffhanger.

I loved the super manipulator, made me feel like God running through the citadel!

Dont make the same mistake as the Matrix series. People dont like questions that remain open, they like answers.

yea i see it like the matrix as well.. hopefully half life 3 won't disappoint

I like questions that remain open. :upstare:

I could deal with g-man remaining mysterious, but it felt totally pointless otherwise...

I thought the ending sucked as well.
Insofar as "What the hell kind" was it? Apparently, the same kind as Halo 2...

(or so I'm told)

I thought the ending was brilliant. If you really pay attention in the game, you can peice together what is going on. Much more fun than having everything spoon-fed to you. It's always more intriguing to let the imagination fill in the gaps... at least for me.

If you take the time & read newpapers hanging on the walls & such in the game it did some what explain what had happen to earth, not to mentioned some of the charecters mentioned how & what had happen as well. Rememebr Hl2 takes place 10 years after the 1st one.
From what I understand is that the combine is an alien race sent thru the portal that Gordan open in Hl1. Dr.Breen has been working with this alien race so that he can rule it. Also the combine used vortigaunts & other creatures from hl1 as there slaves, thx to gordon where they freed. The g-man at this point is any ones guess but I like to think that he to is an alien but not the same race as the combine but the combines enemy.
The best way to describe HL2 is like the movie "They Live" aliens coming to earth & to steal our resources but yet work with a selected few humans in there quest.

BTW I loved the ending, what a cliff hanger! cant wait till HL3. reminded me much like the matrix 2.

If I hear the phrase "spoon fed" one more time, I am going to shove a spoon down every one of your ****ing throats. :frown:
( :E )

(but seriously, STOP IT.)

Sure we can piece together what ALREADY happened...I don't know of anyone claiming otherwise...and I mean, what does the time between Hl1 and 2 have to do with the ending?

hahaha luckily it did NOT remind me of Matrix 2 or I'd be sitting here talking about how pissed I was for spending money on this...and I'd never bother to play HL3 ;)
(not saying there's anything wrong with your view, just making a bit of a joke)

Just for comparison...
I don't know about you but StarWars: Empire Strikes Back was my favorite one of the bunch and it was in the middle. A lot of questions left unanswered, cliffhanger ending gearing up for the 3rd installment, focus on characters, much improved effects over the original, and a really good movie to experience!

Same with HL2, IMO.

The ending kicked ass, its a trilogy, dont expect all your questions answered in the 2nd game, is that how the Xfiles went?

id like to have one answered if could. instead not only did i not get that, but they dumped a motherload of new ****ing questions on top of the old shit heap of questions.

If somebody even mentions that pathetic and totally untrue theory of "gordon bieng gman from the future" again, i am going to throw myself out of a window.

As Guybrush Threepwood once said, "Bad videogame sequels always come in threes."

lmao...yeah i have heard of it before...pirate one right? and Guybrush is thye guy with the blonde hair...hehehe

It was perfect. Really when you think about it. Sure it was a bit of a cliff hanger. At least they made it feel like a full game unlike halo 2. Really if they wanted to end there series there they could. Mainly because you have just killed the man and broken the fortress of the organisation that hold “humanity” hostage. Overall your expecting more when the original finished in a like minded manner?

But the only question I have is WHAT THE **** HAPPENED TO ALEX!

Which better as hell be answer soon by official expansions or Hl-3. I hear you play as her in hl-3... But I think it would be better staying as Gordon... seeing as it's really his story ;).

Yeah but we learned more about Luke becoming a Jedi and more of the previous plot about the empire and so on.
We didn't suddenly have a plot about the evil..uh...Rodians or something trying to take over the universe. It was STILL the Empire. Nor did Duchess Lucy Starbanger suddenly appear and practically jump down Luke's pants or anything.
We went from US Gov't and/or Xen to the Combine (who?!).
Suddenly Alyx (who?) is in love with me, and some people tell me I'm in love with her too (I've no idea how they know this, but perhaps this explains my difficulty in social situations; I do not know my actual feelings! hey, can you guys come around and tell me when I'm in love with people in reality?! I'd love that ;)*)
with HL 2 I felt like I walked into the sequel to a game I'd never played. Suddenly I had a love interest "halfway through the movie" without any previous knowledge of her whatsoever, nor any interaction (interaction being defined as something that requires participation by two parties)

I just fail to see how it relates to the original in any way except "there's the G-Man!" and "They're all calling me Gordon and referring to Black Mesa..." oh and zombies and headcrabs, but they got overshadowed by the NEW zombies and heacrabs.

*just having a bit of fun! don't take that as any kind of jab :p

I really did enjoy this cliffhanger sort of ending, you guys wouldn't be complaining if you'd played Halo 2.. I swear I thought there was another level after the cinematic that was the end. It was one of the worst game endings I've ever seen. Its like I'd just busted a shitload of brutes, and flood and whatnot - then I get rewarded with it telling me I have to fork out another $100 (AU) to buy the next shit that should have been explained in Halo 2. To top it off the vehicles felt like shit too. Going a little off topic there, but anyway, I enjoyed Half Life 2's ending. Not to mention the splendour of every aspect of the game.

Ending is just done so lame they want you to keep buying the series. They could have done so much more but I think they probably got bored and decided to leave it till number 3.

Maybe you should realise that in Halo 2, if you play it in hard, you get the rest of the story, and more levels? Just a thought :)?

There were a lot of answered questions, except nobody told it to you so you had to find them yourself.

heres what i just posted in a previous thread:

i hated the ending. and not just when time stops- the whole last level was rather a let down after the WONDERFUL level with the manipulater...i really think valve could learn some lssons from bungie, the Halo ending was 10 times better IMO. tons of enemies, time running out, and a ring to get off. MP3 player rocking, warthog roaring.... man that level f*cking owned. Especially when you realise that your ride out of here has been blown to smithereens, and you have two minutes to grap the other dropship. then when you finally get there you must leave your warthog... man i ran like the world was ending. well, i suppose it was.

but HL2... i cared for all the characters, i took a bullet for alyx more than a few times, and i stuck up for barney till the end. i never was a a guy who killed barney for his ammo in HL: in fact, i reloaded the game when he died, just to try and save as many people as possible. so i loved the characters.

but its not the actual ending i dont like, i dont mind what happens with the Gman... its still annoying but its not out of character or anything. what I didnt like was the fact that it happens just as i was screaming at the screen "COME ON YOU F/CKING COMBINE, COME AND GET ME!" and getting ready to run guns blazing out of the building, swearing at those f*cking bastards. i wanted a timer, i wanted excitement! i wanted the skyscraper to be exploding , with only a couple of minutes till it exploded, and i wanted to take down as many combine as i could before it blew sky high.

but no- just as i reached the high time of my experience, just as i was reaching the height of the climax, just as my heart was racing, ready to kick some ass.... it stops. and the credits roll.

to me, that was a shit ending. i dont care how profound it was, or how it set the scene for HL3... it was a cheap ending, that occurred just as i had built up a hell of a lot of stress. i had to take it out on CS:S after that instead ;(

When did this ever happen?

WHAT? really? is that true? i havent even bought the game yet, but when i do, im playin git on true! could this be the reason people hate the ending... because they havent seen it?

The ending sucked. In fact, the storyline in this game was dissapointing as hell. I don't care what people say, it didn't deliver. It was just a confusing mess.

You just wanted the last level to be like Halo. Which isn't a bad thing at all. I thought they could've added a little more to the battle though, seemed too easy.

the ending in halo was lame as hell.

so freaking FRUSTRATING to drive ur UNcontroblable warthog trough
those really tight spaces! ugh i cant see how anybody liked that.

i loved the ending in hl2 god was it fun playing with the gravity gun =D
i think hl2 is the best and most fun shooter ive played in a while or even from all i played!!! i just finished it :)

i didnt really think much about hl2 anymore.
but when i bought it DAMN!! i really loved everything about it lol.
the only dissapointing thing was the AI wasnt as nice as they told us
when i barrcaded a door, the combine just wouldnt go in xD

this game really deserves a 10,1 :)

To me it was awesome using that manipulator. I wished they would have let me use that blue manipulator earlier in front of the rebels, I can imagine they going "OMFG!! LOOK AT GORDON RAPE THEM". Still it was a great power trip running around with that weapon. Anyways the ending was ok but it could have been alot better like having to do a get the **** out of the citidel with alyx behind you goin down with going down elevators, though all kinds of corridors in a mad rush to a hanger where i can steal a helicopter and then watch as the citadel collaspes then have the g-man end it.

That's true, I just got pissed off after finishing Halo2. The first however, was cool, but as people have pointed out, frustrating.

Back to HL2, I was satisfied with this ending. The G-man confusing the living shit out of you was sort of what I expected anyway. I never thought that you would "win the fight" against the combine in a week or two and then go drink martini's with Eli while you **** his daughter in the ass. That's pretty unlikely given the massive stronghold the combine have on earth, and the fact that they can send in reinforcements through portals, and we can't stop them since they're launching them from another universe (wow).

I'm satisfied, and can't wait to see what Valve are gonna do with HL3. I just hope I don't have to wait another 5-6 years for that...

I would love to see an age survey on who thought the ending sucked and those who thought it was good, by age. Some people just dont see great story telling when they are not being narrated with cutscenes. I think it has to do with maturity.

I think Half Life 2 is just meant to be a demonstration of the capabilities of the Source Engine. The real deal is in expasion packs.
