Tomorrow is October 8th - the day of the summary judgement hearing in the VU/Valve case.

Which means that the case will either be settled then and there based on the evidence already presented or the judge will remand it for trial next year with discovery happening until 12/31/04.

We can only hope for a settling right then and there. Hell maybe Vivendi will settle out of court once they realize how much HL2 thru steam is going to hurt their sales.

I didnt know that. I hope VU and VALVe settle something out so we can get HL2 soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the hearing had been delayed until December... I'll try and find the source to confirm.

Yea, I thought I saw it somewhere... here it is: In other developments in the Valve versus VUG lawsuit, the judge hearing the case in District Court pushed the cutoff date for the two sides to present relevant documents (Discovery) from October 8, 2004, to December 31, 2004.

I heard that too, I think it was a Gamespot article.

edit: too late

maybe the judge wants HL2, and will do whatever it takes to get it quickley. Or maybe the judge has a mac and could care less. Or maybe there is no judge. wait...forget that last part.

Does that mean that the hearing itself was put off until 12/31/04 or that the discovery period was extended but the hearing will still go on to determine if summary judgment is warranted.

Hmmm - in any event, I just checked Judge Zilly's case schedule for tomorrow and he has none listed.

Can someoen give me a sumary of what this trial is about

I'd like one too, because I haven't been foloowing this VU and Valve thing. I didn't even know they were having a dispute till' a couple days ago.

whooaa tomorrow means hl2 wont be released until april 2005!!!

-merc

Oh well whatever happens happens :/

Valve files suit against sierra/vivendi for not paying valve its fair share for cyber cafe copies of valve games

more recently, Vivendi files a suit against valve for misleading Vivendi on the purpose of steam and breaching their distribution contract.
Vivendi claims that Valve assured them that Steam was not intended for or would become a way of distributing without Vivendi getting a piece of the pie. That ended up false (if it was true) and vivendi is none to happy about the prospect of seeing all that $$$ bypass them.

court hearing is in ****ing december? jesus christ give me a ****ing break. im goin to play other games, gimmie a call whenver this one decides to finally ****ing come out. so much bullshit and drama surrounding this game its such a ****ing turn off.

Whoa - take a deep breath and slow down there partner. That does NOT mean the game won't come out sooner. All it means is that both parties will be gathering evidence. Trust me, VU and Valve want to get this one out as soon as possible to make money to pay the legal fees :naughty:

I believe it was determined that that Gamespot article was wrong, and that it was the Oct 12th date that got pushed to December, while the Oct 8th date was still in effect.

** edit: Here is the September thread discussing it. Take note of Democritus's posts

(SFLUFAN,. whats with the sig? Oct 17th??)

They extended the time to present "relevant documents" to the court for the case that happens in 05, not the hearing that so far is still gonna happen tomorow.

mmm and this whole time I was worried about the game being delayed because of the case. It sounds like it shouldnt be delayed again. And I doubt VU is gonna hold the game back. They need the money. I just hope the game is released soon. I wanna kill something! ! !

Which is total bullshit because Vivendi has never had a part in developing the game nor helping create Steam, just only is responsible for packaging and that crap. They don't deserve any money from steam, they didn't have a part in making it! Fugg em!

Ya know, I agree with guinny. There is alot of damn drama surrounding this game. Just release it already. It's done. It's not like it's still in development.

When do you guys think we will hear some more news on this case? Think we will hear any soon?

I have no idea - I just checked Judge Zilly's docket for today and there are NO cases scheduled. I'm not sure what that means exactly.

I hear that!! when they asked vu if they wanted part funding steam they said no, but now that steam is actualy creating profit, they want to hop on the bandwaggin and get a % of the money... fu#$ vu!! gready basterds...

What A Summary Of Judgement Means!!!

It is a gathering of evidence from both parties to be presented to the judge for the first time (and yes this is delayed until end of december) The judge looks at both sides and what they have for the case and in this case summarizes everything and if he CLEARLY finds who is correct and who is wrong in this case then he will provide a judgement then and decide who gets what and all the other legal dates and trial dates for this case is scrapped because the judgement has been made. If it is UNCLEAR to the judge who was right and who was wrong and things need to be investigated furthur, then he will not be able to make a judgement then and the legal meetings and trial dates will go as plan.

Basically this summary of judgment is put in place to avoid having to go to trial when it may be clear of a solution to the problem right then, but if its not clear , then trial must happen. Hopes this is clear to everybody. By the way I am not just making this up, I do I.T. work for Lawyers.

Wonderful, so no HL2 for the next 6 months. Might as well call it a delay.

Court delay = hl2 delay.

And if you think otherwise because "VU NEEDS THE MONEY" they dont. They don't need the money. They are a huge corporation that expands far beyond publishing a pc game.

That's just wild speculation and scaremongering. Nowhere does it say that the game is going to be held back until the conclusion of the lawsuit.

GUINNY:

Will you KINDLY pay attention to what is being said in this thread instead of jumping to uninformed conclusions? There is NO EVIDENCE AT ALL that the game will be hold for the next 6 months.

There's also no evidence that it wont be held for 6 months.

There's also no evidence that you're not a blue-arsed baboon, but does that make it true?

No , but HL2 have been Delayed several times =/
:dork: :dork:  ;(

There's no evidence that your a bad moderator, oh wait there is. :p

jk jk.

but honestly, you cant prove either way, and so far, it feels like its LEANING towards being delayed 6 months.

It feels like it to you.

It's just as easy to argue that with the prepurchasing of HL2 and the release of CS:S yesterday, that things are gathering pace for an imminent release.

There is no way there going to delay it 6 months..
I bet we will hear gold within a week, now that steam is selling it..

Yes , there´s a Smell of Dealy in the air, if you go into vivendi´s buildings, you will cough for sure, whit so many smell of dealy !

vivendi dont want to make us happy , they want to make money  :x :flame:

exactly their is no evidence for either or so for you to assume somthing then state it as fact is stupid and ignorant.

VALVe wouldn't have pre-loaded this early to have it delayed for 6 months. If Vivendi hold HL2 for 6-months i got the feeling VALVe would release it anyways in a short while. Of course that wont need to happen cause Vivendi is stalling till November VALVe knows this and isn't going to do anything about it cause they know they'll get more money as well.

I hope all the sparkling reviews of the game will goad vivendi into just releasing the game. I mean come on vivendi! Show some ****ing dignity about it and save yourself some respect.

The court thing wont delay HL2. Only bugs and VU's marketting strategy will.

You just completely contradicted youself. You told me I have no argument for my statement, which, you also said there is no argument for either or, yet you just made an argument, calling yourself stupid and ignorant.

And Pi muhiro, it doesnt mean anything, it could be something to tide us over. Valve did what they did to beat VU at their own game. Theyve already made a ton of money from customers pre-purchasing hl2. They gave us cs:s not as a bonus for pre-purchasing hl2, but to get MORE people to pre-purchase hl2. It's all for money, and this could last them the next 6 months. All they did with cs:s is take off the beta tag and throw some new maps in. theres still no new models/characters/features/etc. Plus with valves track record, it all leads me to believe that yes, we are in store for yet another long delay.
