Wierd dropship error on HW17

it's not something big, if you don't know a good way to fix it then it's probably an error with the file I downloaded to steam 4 years ago.

This is what happens. At the part where you have to deactivate the shield on the bidge this is what that dropship does.

It just sits there. Doesn't move. Apparently it's not even part of the world... Actually... Every dropship in the game does this. They don't even drop their load... It happened before a time where I have to reformat my computer, then after that when I played through it again it still did it, so I don't know what the problem is. It's just an annoying glitch like the one with the moving walls that I have.
 
Lol, why does everyone always jump on the case of legal games?
 
Simply because no one can think of any other cause for in-game errors.

Well, as I said, the dropships do it all over the game. I'm not sure if it's because it's a 4 year old file from steam that nobody's used for 3 years, but I'm sure that's not the case... is it? :|
 
you make sure its updated? make sure its set to "always check for updates for this game"?

Yeah, in fact I just reinstalled it and the same thing happened. It's gotta be a problem with the ver I downloaded... ><

Ohh wells. I get hl2 again when OJ box comes out. I'll reinstall it with the disks. :D
 
I've had this problem before, only once however. Never did figure out how to fix it. I just reinstalled (from steam) and updated and it was fine. :/

Actually, by using Steam to verify your files, coupled with the fact that Steam rams the updates down your throat (pretty much), it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for you to have "different files" or an "older version".

In any case, updating and verifying should almost DEFINITELY fix your problems, and they CERTAINLY wouldn't continue to re-occur after re-installs / reformats. You could even re- download all over again if you wanted. So if you have an excuse NOT to do those things (anyone that had paid for the game WOULD do such simple things to have their game working properly) then it is likely you are making up excuses to cover up the fact that you cannot use Steam to sort your problems out.

I also find it interesting that you would be so happy to buy the game again - you could just download it for free again right now, and I certainly wouldn't be happy about "buying" a game I already owned all over again just because it never worked properly.

You smell VERY suspicious. Sure, you might have a few posts here, so what? That doesn't mean you paid for your game...

How long has this been happening, Van? Did you reinstall via Steam? Installing from the Cds won't help, you'll be forced to update via Steam anyway before you can play.

You attack me for accusing him of possible piracy, and at the same time concede that it is possible I am right. Are you mental? Why on earth would you have such an attitude problem with someone that you admit could be absolutely correct? There is no nice way to say "I think you're full of crap and have an illegal copy of the game", if that's what has your panties in a twist. At least I didn't fly off the handle at HIM with things like "Just go away and never come here again", "bastard" etc. Who's the more calm, sensible and observant one now? (Hint: it's not you...)

i've had the exact same thing happen at the bridge there and that same dropship...the dropship just hangsout there. my game just resolved itself
 
I think I've had this, or a similar problem with mods, but never in game. ... i feel like playing the game right now!

Well, umm... Stucco? Even though I could give a damn, you're completely wrong. :D

I'm getting OJ box because I got to pre order it at gamestop. You know what that means? THATS RIGHT! I can slowly pay for it little by little until the game comes out, and go and pick it up! :D

Not that it's any of your business.

Btw, paying for a $60 game at $5 a week is a pretty good damn deal, wouldn't you think?
 
Yeah, I have the game. I paid $50 for the game back in the day, no way am I gonna let this copy go to waste. I got one of the 5 CD packs, had Gordon walking along the road, crowbar in hand. Twas a sechsy design.

Ohh, and yeah, Jintor, I had the game on this account and nobody touched it for about 4 years, and then I opened the account when I got my new computer and downloaded it to my computer. :)

it took about 5 hours to do, and my internet went down a few times, so I reinstalled it yesterday and the same error happened. It might just be my computer. Maybe i''m going through the areas too fast. I have been nocliping through to see if it's fixed, maybe that's why.
 
This happens to me on a airboat level, the helicopter doesn't see the player anymore and the area portals are breaking aswell.

This is not a legal/illegal matter, just somekind of misplaced transition point or something. To fix this, you gotta pull down the console, and type restart or changelevel MAP_NAME

Don't worry, it happens like every 5 playthrough.

I'm still looking for more info about what could be the cause of this.

Let me get this straight: by virtue of being the most irritating douche around, Shasta somehow wins the right to be the only user on the whole site allowed to get away with having 2 accounts? How does that even work?
 
Think of it kinda like Breen and the Advisor body, Shasta got banned, so Stucco is his new host body.
 
It's just temporary though, soon we'll have Mecha Shasta.

What the hell indeed. You are, for some reason, trying to imply that I just randomly make up something, and then accuse them of piracy. Are you on drugs? I ALWAYS use logic, examples, and the posters own quoted words to show my reasoning. Feel free to actually try and dispute any REAL examples you like. I SERIOUSLY question your ability on a PC, and that the things you listed doing were actually done correctly. For example, you list that you have fully updated your drivers etc, yet you claim you are using 83.93 forceware. IT IS UP TO 162.18 (apparently - last one I saw was 94.24, but I don't update as much - either way, you are WAY behind). You didn't even say what graphics settings you are trying etc. Furthermore, ALL games have small "glitches", where a texture might not join up exactly or a water effect might not work perfectly. So complaining about what is probably the normal running of the game - without posting screenshots to even help you explain what you are on about REEKS of failure.

As for the update logs - well, I don't have the game installed at the moment, and had no way to check the log. However, I am surprised that it lists april 2006 as the last update. I assumed that Steam had a calendar handy when making their updates, or at least SOME idea that it is 2007 now, but apparently not. We all know there have been plenty since April 2006. Oh well.

In any case, I have already told him how a person with a legit version would solve this - use Steam to update / verify. Problem solved if he is legit, and if not, well....
