Anyone else feel the same way?

Could not be happier. Have never really had hope that change could come to our political system, but 2006 started me believing and this solidifies it. Thank the maker!! :bounce:

I felt pretty much the same way - woke up this morning, put the radio on, heard that Obama won and I was overcome with joy. If this sounds arrogant on my part, I apologize, as it is not intentional, but America has really changed its image for the world - both for electing a democrat and a black man. People I know who were quite anti-American have suddenly changed they're opinions.

i'm happy obama got elected and my respect for the majority of americans went up a bit. but the fact still remains that there are alot of people up there barely reaching above the IQ 90 line...okay maybe 100.

I was like Wooohooooo!

because i smelled pancakes.

I stayed up all night and watched the coverage with some friends. Two comedians covered it on one of the channels, it was great.

That was probably on comedy central and the 2 comedians were jon stewert and stephen colbert. If you can pick up their shows in your country I would highly recommend their nightly shows on comedy central.

Expected President Elect Obama to win, even though I'd rather it have been McCain.

I'm more relieved that the Democrats were prevented from gaining a 60 seat majority by more than a few seats. Filibustering can prevent an assault weapons ban or any other gun control from being pushed through.

Believe me when I say this: Everybody over there is subject to re-election, and no one has the authority to mess with the second amendment, needless to mention the most powerful lobby of all "NRA."
So, rest assured, even if the Democrats overcome republican filibuster, they won't mess with the America's so-called "God Given Right."

Then how do you explain the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994-2004? Legislation that impacts gun rights HAS passed before. This had a serious threat of coming back if the Democrats gained a 60 seat majority.

I don't think there are more than a handful of people in this country that I feel are fully qualified to step into the presidency and know what to do and how to do it in the best way, and definitely don't feel like these people ever get nominated for presidential elections.

I am, however, extremely thrilled that there's an african-american president.

Actually, I took an IQ test a few years ago. I scored 147. I'm intellygunt!! :rolling:

While your score is obviously fantastic, and not wishing to take anything away from your vast intellect, but all that IQ tests measure is your ability to take IQ tests.

lol

I cant find anywhere else to put this so I'll just post it here:

Obama said:
' I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me … answer it.' Instead of being appropriately [the tape is garbled]. So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f–––ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."

Where did that come from? Is that real. If it is my respect for the guy just went up some.

as far as I know it's real, it's from a first part of 7 part report on the lead up to election that couldnt be posted till after election day ..it follows obama and mccain's run for office ...lot the link, I'll post it f I find it

Do you think the Doomsday Clock is going to be turned back this year? :p

Man, I own a firearm, and I'm a Conservative-Democrat (A Blue-Dog,) same as my two senators (Jim Web and Mark Warner). There are also many semi and full Blue-Dogs in the US senate, as I type.
You are right; some assault rifles were banned in major urban areas, because of high crimes, but assault rifles are alive and well in the rest of the country. So believe me when I say "Rest assured" your amendment will not be touched, most southern states Democrats aren't like Nancy Pelosi, if they were, then maybe you would have something to worry about, but now you don't.

Take Care.

Are you sure that happened?
I don't think it did. I would remember the world ending or the USA becoming a Nazi dictatorship with all civil rights revoked.

Let me help you with that.

There's 7 chapters, the 7th is still being written and will come out tomorrow I think. It's an awesome read, really. Newsweek attached a reporter to each campaign and this is what they saw. It's a huge collection of small moments.

What godly reason is there for owning an Assault rifle in a modern democracy? Are the Deer shooting back?

We need them to kill Democrats before they transform the US into a socialist gulag.

Kinda what I've been thinking. He'll just shoot back about how it's in the constitution.

I don't own firearms to hunt. And this is another example of the jump from arguements-

from "Your guns are safe, the second amendment" then I show how they are threatened and it goes to "Lol but you dont need em anyway cause I say so"

Are you sure that happened?

If you don't even believe laws were passed then you shouldn't even be arguing on the fact. Go look it up on wikipedia, I'm not going to spoon feed you information on our domestic issues/laws that don't even affect you in the least. You don't see me criticising local Irish ordnances

shit I forgot the sarcasm tags -.-

Whether sarcastic or not, some of the posts here sound word for word like last night's television . Try to form your own thoughts instead, please. You're embarrassing yourself (by obviously parroting what you hear).

If I want to hear what they say on tv I'll just turn on the tv. Thanks anyway.

Some of you are utterly missing a very valuable point of: Why we are the way we are.
I don't argue you about why your countries roll like that, and the Irish affairs, and you shouldn't wonder why we tote guns.
And to throw you an advice: You should never dive into a discussion if you don't have the fundamental idea of our amendments.

Now, I will go out of my way and tell you what the discussion is about:
See, this is not about guns and whether they're safe or otherwise, whether the deer can shoot back or armed: it's our amendment itself that's being questioned. And that's where lots of Non-US always never get it, and trip.
To Make it brief and pretty short for you, "The Second Amendment" is part of our US 10 Bill Of Rights, which is designed to limit the power of our government over it's citizens... us. Therefore, untouchable. And if one of the 10 amendments of our Bill Of Rights is touched, will only mean the entire Bill Of Rights contaminated. Think of it as a Virgin.
Its our God Given Rights, the pillars of our nation, and what makes us so powerful and beautiful. No government body has the authority to even get close to our bill of rights.

Take Care.

Oh so your defense of the Second Amendment is basically that it would contaminate all your rights to change something which is completely antiquated, and also maybe slippery slope omgomg?

"Think of it like a virgin" just serves to illustrate the complete lack of logic when it comes to the defense of this "god given right".

The fact is it's past it's sell by date. The concept of a militia successfully resisting a tyrannical government is ludicrous in the modern western world.

Eejit, I'm done arguing you. You're intentionally avoiding my point, and I have no time for your pretensions and sarcasm. But I will leave you with this:
We adore our civil liberty, and the reason why we elect our Legislative and Executive branches then confirm our Judicial is solely for our protection and the promotion of our freedom.
Maybe you were taught different, and I don't have the right to shove my way of life down your throat, but our Bill Of Right is whole, and all ten of them stay intact. None of them can be mutilated, whether time has passed or their expiration dates is up. They'll remain the same as they did for the last 200yrs and they'll remain together. none will be missing.

Good Day.

It's like discussing religion

Anyone got some logical reasons for defending the second amendment?

lol

I cant find anywhere else to put this so I'll just post it here:

see how its a "something" that he doesn't even say what it is.....

hes a great speaker and all,but where the F**k are the answers?

Okay how about this. If the second amendment is repealed you will see a guerilla movement rise in the United States from the many militias that actually do exist.

If the second amendment is repealed it will cause much more death than it would ever save of lives.

Guns are fun to shoot. I don't own any, but **** y'all.

Even if your first point is correct (sauce please) the second is wrong. Lack of gun control leads to deaths every single year, an uprising of some nutjobs would result in a lot of deaths for one or two years but fewer gun deaths every year would eventually balance that out.
