World Exclusive Interview With Chuck Osborn (Info about Multiplayer)

Well said. I think it's ridiculous the amount of knee-jerk Valve-defending that is going on. Face it - Valve let us down. I'm sure SP will be fantastic, but it's just standard to include MP in any FPS. And we expect that MP to be original in some way. I'm not a big fan of deathmatch, but I think Valve had a real opportunity to do some serious innovation, but they seemed to have dropped the ball. I'm sure this will lower the review scores a bit.

And for all you guys that simply lay MP at the feet of modders - I think you're crazy. It's a dangerous precedent for developers to abandon their marketplace responsibilities to volunteers. This is not cake mix.

I myself don't see this as a good thing that they didn't include their own multiplayer, but to make good mods, it's simple: make sequels to the best mods out there right now (Sven Co-Op, Natural Selection, The Specialists and Action Half Life) bam!, instant multiplayer user base.

I leave to go enjoy myself at a concert for a few hours, and the forums are plunged into hell

You should know by now that you can't have fun. We can't last without you.

I like CS:S so much better than CS. The ragdolls alone make the game that much better. A shotgun from close range propels a body realistically. It's so satisfying.

And yes, it DOES have physics. Although most of them are just eye candy right now, some things actually have uses. It's pretty cool to have barrels that act as temporary cover. Maybe new CS maps will take advantage of them.

I'm not the biggest CS fan. It's one of my least favorite mods. I'm more of a DoD/NS kind of guy. CS:S though, for some reason, is a blast to play and has rekindled my interest in the game.

Basically, I'm going to love CS:S and DoD:S. But I'm also looking forward to the next big thing the mod community has in store for us. It will be worth the wait, and this time around they have a lot more to work with.

no gravity gun, no care.

I don't think it's that terrible if it comes without a vanilla MP. CS:S is fun, and the single player still is the main beaf after all. Orwellian sci-fi setting, confusion and action all packed in one amazingly looking +/-40 hour game. That's got to be worth something, ain't it?

Furthermore, even tho we'll have to wait for probably another year, mods will cerainly be a good replacement for wathever they could've come up with. Dropshipin' fysicin' laserbeamin' vehiculinin' camerawieldin' artificial intelligentin' directX ninin' surround soundin' crazyiness is sure to follow.

So sit back, relax, and chill - 'cus the cavalry is coming. And it's gonna get medieval on our asses.

Half-Life 2 NOT having a MP/ WTFFF!!!! Its over for me im not into SP at all, I am so mad trying to type this it is unbelievable, Valve strung us along and I was under the impression that the MP was top secret due to there was going to be something really cool or new, just to have Valve say CS:S is your MP THAT is pure crap. Its like getting to the finishline and stopping right before and sitting down with out crossing the line. I just deleted steam. Im sure most of you will love the SP as im sure it will rock. See you all later it was fun reading these forums for the last 2 years atleast, im going to play UT2004 for a while till S.T.A.L.K.E.R comes out.

Y'know, and this MAY seem far-fetched, but could it be entirely possible that there is a HL2DM, except Valve's keeping it a very close secret until release?

I mean, this is coming from a PC Gamer Correspondant who probably doesn't have the entirety of the game. This isn't a report by Doug Lombardi that says "No HL2DM, CS:Source is the only multiplayer element."

(As I said, this seems far-fetched, but anything is possible.)

There isn't a report that there is deathmatch. So it stands to reason that there isn't. Why would Valve keep it a secret? These are reviews of the game.

I can see the reasons why Valve may have left Deathmatch out.

do you also see reasons why they left hl2mp out? too many people assume that hl2mp = automatically means generic deathmatch

Well, a lot of people are pissed off that there isn't HL2DM so I'm addressing that.

man, even some levels based off hl2 sp in CS:S would be nice. i wonder if valve plans to make any

I would have liked a HL² themed MP, and yes DM gets old. What rubs me is that total lack of a vehicle based MP as nether CS:S or DoD:S will support it any time soon.

where is my PCGAMER (US) MAG?!?!?! so much for getting the DEC issue "this week." it's now NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!

Bah DM, i played that like for 2 hours. Runa aroung killing every thing that moves. I loved HL cuz its was diff from the quakes and doom's, but i hated DM, cuz it was just like them.
