World of Warcraft European Open Public Beta

Yeah, 5% in so far. I ended up turning it off for a while though.

As long as it gets a few hours tonight, then all of tomorrow, it'll be done before I know it.

Heh, I still had the US open beta on my PC, just patched that, worked fine. No downloading 2,5 GB for me.

BTW, anyone else having the problem that they can't login? I've created an account, with succes, I tried logging in in the game, got the message that it's either a wrong password or user name, while I knew both were correct. Then I tried retrieving my password, but it said my account couldn't be found, retrieving my username by entering my email address said that there was no account with that email.

Really? i didn't think that would work, as the EU closed beta testers had to download a new client when the open beta started.

If you want a fileplanet link to the open beta download (you'll still have to download some hefty patches from blizzard downloader) click here. That is, if you trust pvtryan ;)

Hmmm... You get used to it after a while. As the days drone on, your life slowly revolves around a little grey bar... you alt tab out of single player games, praying that it has inched a little further to that elusive, far off mark to the right of your screen... Before you know it, it consumes your life and you don't want to go on the internet in fear of slowing the deliverance of your holy game, or even place your feet near your internet cable in fear of a stray movement yanking it out of place. Slowly you forget why you're doing it at all... forget what the grey bar actually means- what it is crawling tawards. But then... but then it ends.

And you immerse yourself in the game... all knowledge of your agonising wait up till this moment gone. All that remains is pleasure... pleasure, and the aspiration to reach the next level.

Welcome to world of warcraft my freind, may this process be repeated for every patch, or even server downtime you encounter in your stay here.
 
If I cancel the download will it resume from that point or start again?

it will resume from that point. This is what happens with normal Bitorrent anyway... not sure about Blizzard bitorrent. I'm 90% sure it will resume though... and it's better to try now (when you've only just started to download) that to be FORCED to try later, only to find that your download has been lost.
 
For anyone who has newsgroup access (quite a few UK ISP's have them such as Blueyonder or NTL) there is a US retail DVD version which is great as I can download at 250kB/s and not 10kB/s. Hopefully it will work, its updating itself at the moment.

still 86% on a 50MB patch so I can't guarentee it works, but if you have a long retention then there is also a euro beta one that someone uploaded about a week or two ago.
 
Do you know how long those links will be up there Matt?

It's gonna take me a good 7 hours or so to get em.
 
Actually, is any second phase person able to play at the moment because it says this on the EU WOW site:

As for my retail US version it says the information I have entered is incorrect when I sign in.
 
The second phase hasn't started yet switch- I presume it will start sometime tomorrow, as Blizzard mentioned that the servers will be back up around that time.

I guess i mean today... hehe, i'd better be going to bed :)

I've turned mine off, I'd rather not wait years to get this, blizz useing BT was the worst idea ever, even if my lan was not blocking half of it, it would still run like shit.
 
yay the ftp is 36klbs, i reckon itll go upto about 45 now i just gotta find something to do...
 
The ftp is running at a good 700kps, guess I'll be getting it after all.
 
If your going to use a torrent, may as well use the one on the main site... o_O

Blizzard torrent is awful... even when there's 100,000 gamers downloading at the same time you get 10 kb/s... A normal torrent would be a lot better.

Also, I went to www.worldofwarcraft.com to manage my account and it said invalid usr/pass! NOES!!! ;(

Anyone? Is WoW not released in UK, or have you guys just not bought it yet? And if so, why is there a beta if it's already been released?

Same problem here, I made 2 accounts and both don't work. ;(
