Nothing justifies pirating the game and stealing from Valve. How can people consider it? Weren't people raised with morals or ethics? ugh it urks me to see that 40% of the people would do that to such a good game, let alone any game. It's really robbing the people of all the work they've put into it because it's supporting piracy no matter how someone wants to try and "justify" it to their greedy self. Valve doesn't "owe" anyone the game at any time, it really is a treat to be able to play it and I think the people who do get to play it should be thankful!!

Can't wait till November? What are people doing during the day? Doesn't seem like a big deal, the game will come when it comes. Hopefully they won't skimp out on anything or feel pressured to release it early and miss anything. Someone can wait 5 years, but now they're unable to wait a few months?

Valve took all their profit and turned it into a game for us to enjoy instead of spending it on other things. Valve doesn't owe anyone anything, they didn't have to make the game at all or put as much effort into as they are. Pirating the game is like slapping them in the face for all that work.

Damn Skippy I'd pirate. I already know my comp will run it, but I just want to play it. I already paid for it in full anyway so off to IRC I go if it happens.

yeah pirating games does suck... but the games are expensive, and its just Easier for the public joe to get warezed games now, no dodgy hax sites and stuff, just suprnova :)

Well, how many people consider pirating a game and then buying it wrong? I don't, really, i mean they do get the money, just a little bit later. To me there ain't a damn thing wrong with that.

That's like a free rental. Blockbuster and the like get 5 bucks a week for you to play a game, not actually own it, and buy it later if you want it.

Just because there aren't PC rentals, it doesn't change that fact. Entertainment has worth.

By pirating the game, you are getting a free loan. A free rental. Both of which the makers of the game are expressly trying to keep you from having. By pirating and paying later, you're basically saying: "Hey man, I took all your stuff, but it's cool. I get my paycheck in a week. I'll pay you back, I swear."

If anyone did that to me, I'd be suitably pissed. By doing that, you're making Valve subject to your whims. You get to walk in like you own the place, grab some free samples and determine when and if you pay. Try that in any real store, and watch your ass get jailed. Why does the fact that it's virtual make it any difference?

Anyone with an ounce of respect for Valve and gaming in general will just sit back and take it. I mean, you'd be commiting a felony just to play a game. Possibly a very great game, but still a game. Get some self control.

I was just saying they are guaranteed without a doubt that they'd get the money, it's not like it's a free sample. I'm talking a pre-ordered and already paid off game, it's just you're getting it early.

But your argument does hold, Mechagodzilla, i see what you mean. I don't think we could argue eachother down on this one, though. I still don't think it's absolutely wrong to get it early and pay later for a legit copy. But yeah, if you do sample it and decide you aren't going to pay, that's wrong. I'd pay though, you can count on that.

That's what they all say. My friend said he'd buy freedom fighters after illegally downloading the full game. He finished it (personally he liked it, but wouldn't admit it) and he still hadn't buy it saying something like - "oh it wasn't that good, not worth my money."

That is natural human tendency, you'd be a fool to waste your money on something you already have played...that's probably how my friend thought.

I'm not saying you would do that - if you are loyal to valve, and hl2 is a great game, then It deserves your money, so do buy it, will ya. :)

Sounds like in the movies when someone goes to their psychiatrist and says "My FRIEND has a tendency to stare at women's breasts, and HE can't stop. What should HE do??"

EDIT: Seriously though, this scenario won't happen, we don't even need to think about it. Valve want to get this game out into our hands as quick as possible, so I am not even going to vote in this poll. If I have to wait until November, then that is fine, because I finish my four year degree in November, and I will be ready to play... :afro:

oh, no I would NEVER ever buy a pirated copy. its one of the few games that really deserves its money.

But I would pirate CS:CZ `cause it sucks hard like all the CS series (IMHO)
/Me tired watching all those 12yo kiddies playing CS

However, a pirated CS:CZ copy may cost even up to 10$ and its still too much for it. So no, I wouldn`t even pirate CS:CZ

;)

the "piraters" are the guys who originally post the files up for downloading.

Hells yeah i would download it, i already got my cd-key and everything, it would be like a download from steam minus the steam.

who would really wants to play the bits and pieces of HL2????No one wants to!!!! More over no one can ever play HL2 multiplayer over the internet with a pyrated copy.

you can play any pirated game over the internet as long as you have a valid cd-key.

because they all rely on cdkey checks from a master server. but some you can play on hacked private servers, but theres what 2000 people tops in those private server communities and theyre usually all empty except 1 all the time and hosted on crappy bandwidth, id prefer to play on the legit servers with my legit key, on servers with anticheat technology and not in some hackerfest cracked server.

I'd download the warezed game for the SP experience, and then, when I finish the SP and the full version arrives, I'd buy the game for the MP. Steam would **** me up the ass if tried playing MP any other way.

I know, steam can be bypassed, but I'm too lazy.

no to pirated HL2...

Yeah games are expensive.Thats the main reason behind the 3 packages of HL2.Valve has always been smart while doing their job.Valve are some of the few companies which churn out a fair game after years of hardwork. We gamers can support these companies by purchasing the retail version. It is the least we could do.

Minipoll: How long will this thread last?

O: Two minutes
O: Five minutes
O: Ten minutes
O: Until Chris_D gets back from the pub (a couple hours) ;)

ah.. I dont think so..

Yeah, Valve plowed all the money they made from Half-life into Half-life 2. If they get no revunue from HL2 then they'll have no money to put into making HL3. Pirating will simply reduce your chances of getting the third in the trilogy which is not a smart move.

Anyway, why BUY a pirate copy? You might as well BUY the legit copy.

(It's probably cheaper mate)

I prefer downloading stuff for free though.

There should be a limit on the amount of smileys you can use in a single post...

Anyway anyone who downloads a Razor1911 or whatever version of the game won't get MP. And that's why I'll buy the game, maybe even twice for two keys who knows :D

so you can use one to cheat. yeah i do the same thing hehe, hackers unite!!!!!one11eleven!1

Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt steam REQUIRED in order to play hl2? In which case, valve could disable hl2 or any other mod that runs off of steam. Unless someone was to figure out a way to run it without steam then good for them but this poll is pretty pointless imo.

i dunno, that sounds weird. you need steam to play a single player game? what if you dont have internet or somthin, you cant play it?

i think i heard that steam will only be used on hl2 sp for a few weeks or so, i could be wrong on that.

even if it does require steam, they can crack it so it does not need steam, it doesnt matter how secure valve makes HL2 they can always edit the data in it to go around all protections.

Actually cracking a game via cdkey etc is much easier than say making a crack to overwrite a 3rd party software that is required in order to run another application. I dont doubt that it could be done, but I think valve is smart in requiring steam to run its games in the future. One thing that I doubt they COULD crack would be to get hl2 to run in multiplayer on legit servers. Then of course there is the issue of getting updates, no updates would be able to be downloaded if steam was to see the pirated hl2 copy as just that, a pirated version. Much like how pirated versions of winxp pro are unable to download the service packs, (unless you have the sp crack). But ya, I used to pirate games all the time, mainly because the games werent all that great and worth the price. Games today however are much better, and I am willing to pay in order to support them so long as I think its a quality product. That and I dont have time to sit around all day searching ftps, I would just rather preorder a game and have it delivered to my front door ;)

I would consider it to be honest, but most likely not. If I did, I would buy the game when it comes out, Valve deserves it.

I don't think I would ever pirate it, might give them another excuse to delay, amongst other reasons. I almost feel I have the right to pirate it though, due to the fact that I spent ALOT of money on a video card witch I'm having trouble with (sometimes) so I could play a good game that is almost over a year late... if they meet that. the September date being to ambitious excuse sounds a little fishy, but I'll believe them blindely. I really hope they are spending this time makeing this game GREAT and as revolutionary as promised then I shall forgive them for false promises. *don't flame, it's just my worthless opinion*

lol the RIGHT to pirate? Lol like its valves fault you decided to upgrade

It's funny when people say Valve doesn't "owe" them anything because it's not true for everyone. I'm a HL2 fan but even I know better than saying this sort of stuff...

I have this little voucher thingie, you know, from when I bought my videocard and it says Valve OWES me a copy of HL2 when it comes out. That's right, Valve OWES me the game, and they also OWE the people who preordered 5 or 10 dollars.

So yes, they DO owe some people things. They owe me a full game.

True. They do not, however, owe you information on it's process or it's release date, nor do they owe you any screens, movies, or playable demos.

You have misinterpreted that statement.

Rico said:
When did I say they owed me that?

I didn't mean to imply that you did. It's just whenever anybody says "Valve doesn't owe you anything", it's directed towards people that whine and complain about release dates and media blackouts.

They're not saying "Valve doesn't owe you a game". If you've got a voucher for it, then of course they owe you one. :) That statement is merely directed at a different audience.

they wont get internet MP(on legit servers). LAN MP will be much easier for them to crack

wOw!

did you make that up all by yourself or did your mom help you?

randomly generated cd-keys (every cdkey in use on every game requiring a cdkey today) are impossible to crack. the odds of getting a matching cdkey are astronomical. 1/100000000000000000000000000 i dont even think we have a word for the number.
