WTF is "humanities" (high school course)

So the class i wanted (building computers) didnt have enough ppl so i couldnt take it, so they put me in this "humanities" class. Now, the first question is:


WTF IS HUMANITIES? Is it something about humans? Hygiene? Art? History?

Im so confused...can someone explain? I came to the class today and they was talking about ancient greek n shit, wtf? What does that have to do with Humanities? Doesnt that mean like...how you behave ?

Except ironically Latin, Greek, Philosophy and History graduates are overrepresented in the buisness sector.. obviously due to to their little practical use :rolleyes:

unless you're a teacher, historian, politician, social worker, office manager, are in human resources, have a job that is in any way creative, or just have an interest in learning ...it applies to every aspect in life



school is not only about getting a job ..it's supposed to teach you critical thinking
 
It's a good class where you share ideas with other people. Give it a try for a week or two and if you don't like it, drop it.
 
Nah, I'm just really touchy about my subject ;)

I get told it's useless quite often by Media students... hence I'm used to rushing to it's defence.
 
anyone who thinks humaities is useless is getting very little out of education

By media students?? Weird. I think math/science/engineering students are generally more annoying since they tend to think all liberal arts are useless. And the business students at my school like to think they're better than engineering. And then there's engineering students who like to argue about particular engineering disciplines (electrical, chemical, etc.)... and it's not even about which is more useful.... it's about which is harder. As in, "Electrical is better than mechanical because our classes are HARDER." :rolleyes:
 
but thats for smart people, why am i in this class? And like, there is only hot senior chicks in it, im like the only dude. It feels odd...strange.....weird... :/ i dont even like that stuff. Why on earth would they place me here?

Let me put it in other words....im the only dude in there, which means im the only gamer there AKA geek AKA nerd AKA not popular among chicks AKA sitting alone talking to a wall while they wisper to each other how geeky i am AKA im having paranoya cause they dont really do that AKA im panicing. Me not like :x

Yes you might figure, i get very nervous when close to hot chicks. The only hot chick ive been in contact with has a name that ends with .JPG

man a roomful of women is the easiest crowd to work with in the world ..all you really need is one of them to pay attention to you and sooner or later they all will

just be yourself (the non-geeky video games part of you)
 
To think I could've taken painting or music this year... ah, but my school only offers some literature course and defines it as "humanities"...
 
My Humanites class was awesome. We didn't do a darn thing but 2 or 3 tmes a week when the professors would come in, we took a 3 day trip to Chicago, and we had fun during study groups and stuff. No real work done but I learned alot about Art and Music History.

Of course this is the AP dual credit Humanities. Most schools don't offer it.
 
Wow don't let them put you in some bs class that you'll never need in life. That's why I took music theory this year (last year of high school) cause I can actually use it and its something im interested in.

Just about everything you learn in high school you never need in the real world. Hell, the only things I have learned this year that was any helpful at all was Anthropology and Criminal Justice.
 
We did humanities and social science at my school. It was pretty interesting in a listen if you can be bothered but mainly snooze kind of way :)
 
In Middle School here in UK, it was a mandatory thing, and it was a mix between two classes of Geography and History. :\

I think. I didn't do much in those classes, and they really weren't that intresting.

What the heck is wrong with chemistry. Nothing. Everyone loves chemistry. ...:(
 
They now told me that i have to take the class, because i need atleast 1 "art point" and since i cant draw or paint i go with this. And i guess i have to work on my chick-fear problem, its not that im unattractive or anything, i just get really nervous around girls who doesnt play games. I have many chick-gamers on the net that i have no trubble being with but when it comes to other non-gamer chicks i die on the spot as i see them.

However i think i got what i really need covered. Striving for the tech design schoolarship thingy. Got 2 out of 4 classes required, and 2 of the recommended that adds extra pluses to it. Next year im taking the 3rd, last year im taking the 4th. Then im ready to make games baby!
 
the secret to not being intimated by girls ...just treat them like you would everyone else. It's easy talking to women if you just see them as a human first objects of desire second
